Great to hear from you at 72 and hope that means you are retired and that you spend a lot of time fishing :) Thanks for writing in and sharing this with us and congratulations on landing a nice walleye!
You have a point.. walleyes could be easily lost with slack line What helped in this case, is that there would always be some tension on the line caused by the moving boat. Thanks for writing us & good fishing to you! :)
i`m 72 now &lake of the ozarks isn`t known for walleye but there is some- i was standing on my dock couple of weeks ago, seen some rippels coming across the cove about 25 yards away a fish on the top -when it got to the dock it was a walleye about 18 to 20 inches even at my age i was thrilled-thanks
Try to keep your distance form the bass in shallow water - if they see you , they could spook easily. Also, try casting far away from the bass and slowly work your lure back towards them - this is very effective :)
Trolling is when you have your boat in gear, and are moving forward and as you are moving, you have your lure in the water, well behind the boat. For those who want to troll really slow, you can "back troll" by putting your boat in reverse :)
Try fishing the sucker minnows suspended about 1 or 2 feet below a bobber and keep it lively. Chances are the catfish will not come up to take your bait, but the pike will :)
This technique would work fine and suggest using a gold colored viper spoon in that root beer colored water (we refer to it as "tea-stained water") Good luck :)
Again another great video. Any chance you can make a video on what to look for in a downrigger? You were going to explain it in the video but got distracted with a fish lol
Sorry for commenting all the time haha but have so many questions!! I fish in northern Minnesota on elbow lake right next to lake vermillion home of huge Muskies. I fish for walleye and the waters a root beer color because of iron ore. Would this technique work
First time I've seen one of your videos. We fish Erie every year in April at Put In Bay for a week. Never have done the Viper Spoons. Do you use them in April or latter really interested in them. We manly use Bandits and Reef Runners never really needed anything else but if this will add to the arsenal I'd like to try them.
We use the Viper spoons from Spring to Fall - you will love using them as they work great and catch both quality and quantity of walleye - the SP1 and SP2 are the ideal models. We also just a couple weeks ago, released a new shallow diver "American Smelt" crankbait - you will want to check them out as they are also going to be great for walleye and salmon - good luck out there :)
Fish the way the wind goes cause baitfish go the way wind goes and pushes the shift of the water so walleye will follow to hunt baitfish and you will bag fish. That is my tip.
Ethan Wong You can certainly go there now and try and still have an opportunity to catch one a night - it's just that the odds are much higher in the spring, but you can still catch them now - if you go, good luck :) You may even see some boats out there fishing got the night bite walleye
very nice video! but why would you pump the rod when you are trolling?? that has got to be the worst way to reel in a walleye... not trying to be rude but everytime you let the rod down and reel towards the fish you are putting a split second of slack in the line! and as you know walleyes have paper thin mouths and all it takes is one head shake to shake them off! why give them a chance?
Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking time to write! We appreciate your feed back very much. Until next time good luck and good fishing :)
Glad you are enjoying our vidoes and that's a real nice walleye you caught on a Viper Spoon - congrats on a nice fish!

Great to hear from you in Missouri and hope you are able to get out for walleye some day - fun to catch and great eating also :)
Hi Kyle - manual down riggers work very well, but electric ones are just more convenient. Can't go wrong with Cannon or Big Jon down riggers :)
Try to keep your distance form the bass in shallow water - if they see you , they could spook easily. Also, try casting far away from the bass and slowly work your lure back towards them - this is very effective :)
Thanks for being first and for tuning in - good luck on the water!
It would be great to fish with you guys...thanks for posting these videos! You're definitely very knowledgeable!

Hey Ivo! I love watching your vids! You seem like a genuine guy and you have a ton of fishing knowledge ... keep up the great work!
thanks i love watching you your videos... I'm only twelve and when I have time I try to get to a lake and try to use the methods you use.

Fishing from a Kayak can be challenging, but I'm sure still a lot of fun :)
Good technique Wanger - thanks for sharing :)
Because Lake Erie is such a large lake, the water levels do not have such an impact, but on smaller lakes, it could.....Higher levels would be best :)

i`m oridginally from central mo & have yet to catch one of those looks like fun thsnks for the look makes me want to
What my dad and I do when we pull lines is pop a line on the down rigger and let it float up and sometimes you catch a fish

What is your favorite lure for trolling for pike/muskie in summer? Thanks
I like to use the SS Viper Spoon, size 20 or the size 40 for the huge fish :)

nice video
Have you tried walleye fishing from shore (in a relatively big lake) and is productive?
Hi Ethan - Lake Erie runs into the Niagara River and you can catch walleye there at night in May :)
Thanks Ivo, might try it next year, is it possible in the summer months because I know in May they spawn in rivers, but not sure about summer
