They killed it with the yaris and corolla GR. They can definitely develop their own
They said they could from they beginning. It would’ve been a $100k sports car, and people would’ve still complained. People are already complaining about the Supra being “overpriced” at $60k!
@@mirzamunif you're right... no excuses for Z4 with Supra badges on it! All them damn resources at hand! All they had to do was extend the GR Yaris block and give us the damn straight BY TOYOTA! Thing would have made at least 400+ while N/A and easily almost 700 turbocharged! .... cancel this current shi* and get it right with a Supra by Toyota!!!
@@hpmetabolics7558 won’t happen. Only way a next gen Supra will happen is with BMW or possibly Mazda (or as a spiritual successor in the Lexus lineup). Right now Toyota is focused on bringing back the MR2 and Celica.
@@hpmetabolics7558Toyota is spreading their GR resources thin by bringing back cars such as the Celica and mr2 as well as maintaining the GR corolla and Yaris. Plus it really doesn’t make sense for Toyota to put hundreds of millions into developing powertrains for the Supra that are only gonna be popular with car enthusiasts. Those investors aren’t gonna like that they’re losing millions just so they can appeal to car guys.
Wint ever happen@@hpmetabolics7558, this would have been possible with the old CEO but like truth be told they're probably going to stop making sports cars soon in all corners of the market
Toyota nailed the looks for the modern Supra. People wanna moan, complain and regurgitate the same tired old phrase of “oh it’s really a bmw underneath,” but the b58 does a great job in it. Smooth reliable inline 6. let’s be honest here, Toyota isn’t going to develop a whole new inline 6 platform for an already limited production car. All v8s from Toyota are gone. Lexus is most certainly going to kill off the v8 in the rcf, lc500 and is500 very soon. They’re putting their new twin turbo v6s (which have been questionable) in their gargantuan cars. Toyota couldn’t have done anything better than to go to bmw for the b58
Toyota enthusiasts "bemoan" this car because it doesn't drive like a Toyota sports car. Is that really that hard to understand? If someone slapped a BMW badge on a sports car that DROVE NOTHING LIKE A BMW, I suspect they'd have an issue with it. I personally think the Supra drives terribly; I would never buy one over an M2.
also, Toyota is responsible for the reliability of the B58. I think BMW benefitted from that partnership WAYYYY more than Toyota did. I hope Toyota never does it again, it was a waste of Supra generation. I believe this current gen will end up like the 350z and 370z; a clapped out tuner car. BMW people aren't going to want it and Toyota people aren't going to want it.
@@hamsterbrigade”because it doesn’t drive like a Toyota sports car.” You do realize that if Toyota were to make their inline 6 in house, people would be complaining about how expensive it is. Look at the Acura/Honda NSX and how much it flopped. Lexus lost hundreds of millions of dollars making the LFA. They’re aren’t going to make that mistake again. It’s a 3100-3400 pound grand tourer, it may not be a Toyota inline 6 but they still tuned certain things differently and made it a fun car to drive so idk how that makes any sense. Furthermore Toyota had nothing to do with the development of the b58. bmw has made the b58 years before the Supra came out and was generally very reliable with proper maintenance. Toyota stress tested the engine and certain parts and recommended bmw to make those changes but it remained the same for the most part. The Supra got the b58tu along with the g chassis m340i and m440i. The f chassis has had the b58 since 2016.
The 2j could have been modernized, no need to reengineer
Best unique exotic car under 40k please!
The Supra being discontinued is NOT a surprise, before it was launched for 2020, Toyota announced it was going to be done in 2025. It was one of the reasons I was looking at getting a launch edition.
Have been hearing a lot about a celica resurrection and am all for it tbh hoping they don’t fuck it up
Apparently Akio Toyoda is very fond of the idea of bringing back the Celica. So killing off the Supra might be opening the space for Toyota to bring back the ceica. I’m really hopeful, the Celica is probably my favorite line of Toyota cars ever.
Hopefully it's not crazy expensive. A nice cheap sports car would be great. They could even get a cheap base trim then have a few higher trims for the loaded people. I'm taking about just 1 screen for infotainment, then regular speedometer and such. Analog needs a come back.
They’ll make it a quad turbo 2 cylinder, 1WD, for $95,000 guaranteed
I have heard it is going to be the mid engine MR2(with a new name), with the GR 3cyl.
Hopefully they keep it a two-door, not like Acura and the "Integra".
You’re telling me, Mazda can design a turbo inline 6 for a new suv, but Toyota (much larger company) are complaining how expensive and difficult it is. Lazy mfs 😂.
toyota is thinking for the future and trying to develop more hybrid cars. The thing is that no one is sure about the future of cars previously we used to think that its electric but the way sells graph of ev's are declining we are not sure about the industry so many companies are not spending that much money on ICEs
Soo true couldn't have said it better myself. They could've made a twin turbo i6 lexus super car with the stats and proportions of a c7 corvette and do a new low cost v6 toyota sports car replacement for the supra without going to bmw. Basically like how Chevy has corvette and camaro.😊
It didn't even have to be an i6. The GTR uses a V6 and people still love it.
Leave mazda alone they on creative mode. We dont need demonic doritos roaming in the streets again😂
Maybe Toyota can just use Mazdas inline 6 and beef it up. They are both great at reliability.
Suddenly everyone isn’t bitching about how it uses a BMW platform. This silence is nice..
when the most reliable car company partners with the most unreliable car company (maybe not the most, but definitely up there) there is going to for sure be complaints from Toyota fans, especially knowing their car isn't going to make it past 100k miles
the b58 is an incresibly reloable platform, probably one of the best in the past decade, all you have to do is keep up with maintanece and itll cruise past 100k eaaily. just cause its a bmw doesnt make it unreliable, stop always chanting it like a sheep @bepso
@pixsled I don't know what you are thinking, but bmw and mercedes are at all times low on reliability and build quality right now.
@@redflagy8the new 3 series are some of the most reliable cars at the moment lol
@@mikaelketo5642 fr, these guys don't know what they are talking about
Toyota has amazing engines that lotus uses, they have powerful engines that they use in their trucks or under Lexus. Why they don't use them to make a Supra is a mystery that boggles my mind
Cuz they didn't want to make a Supra they wanted BMW to do all the real work from the get-go.
Sports car don’t sell much, doesn’t make sense to reinvent when there’s already an amazing inline six
Fr which is funny they made a lexus is600 then scrap it, which was already made so they literally could use that platform for the new supra.
@@svieste981it's because these companies only worship the dollar today.
Because an inline-six cylinder ( a Supra must) is no longer manufactured by Toyota. And due to packaging issues an I-6 won't fit in much else. So a new platform with a clean sheet inline six isn't going to a happen, period.
I can't understand why the Z4 failed
It's got the looks, great interior and beastly drivetrain
It's a rocketship
lack of interest from buyers. Dealerships also need to make money. Just like most American wagon cars failed because not a lot of people wanted it. So they just destroy what people don’t want or technically stop producing it in the first place.
It's a niche community for sports car, not that profitable unless you are talking about Ferrari or Lamborghini which is all about sports cars, but their target buyers are the very wealthy. Average people want utility cars that feel safe on the road and can carry a family, that is the SUV/Truck/Hatchback which dominates like 80-90% of the market on new cars. I doubt several car manufacturers want to create new sports cars. My Mom actually has a last Gen Z4 with the hard convertible top, and I have a Supra Gr 3.0, great cars.
It ain't an SUV crossover. The only thing that sells these days.
Who buys 2 seater inline 6 for price of 4/5 seater V8
@@thulanimakhoba3212 ask AMG.
The platform was jointly developed and Z4 sales have nothing to do with work conducted almost a decade ago. BMW doesn’t even make the Z4 or Supra. Truth is they have pre-COVID contracts between three parties that simply don’t work with today’s economics and small sales. BMW loves the Z4 which is why they blessed it with the last new manual trans to a BMW for one year only. It’s a love letter to an end of an era, as the Supra was for Toyota. We will all miss them when they are gone, history will be kind to them I suspect.
Finally a Brother that knows his cars outside of Hellcats… you got my Sub! Also i own a Lotus Evora 2+2 supercharge if you ever want to review it im in chicagoland area 💪🏾
Toyota should build there own and make it a real supra
Ok what do you think they should do
But Toyota isn’t big on sports cars.
The GR Yaris and GR Corolla are absolutely killing it.
I doubt they're in a rush to recreate a platform that flopped for BMW when their "home grown" cars are doing well.
Besides: The Z4 was, for the most part, a fun car from a "sporty" brand (BMW)... yet it was a financial flop. I don't think that would encourage Toyota to spend all the money to recreate a brand new, unique platform for a new Supra knowing that they'd almost never recoup the R&D costs before that car would become obsolete.
Nah
@@ryanchoudhury2060double the inline 3 they already have and use the same chassis or better
Toyota already has a turbo 3 pot making only 82 fewer hp than the B58, stick two of them together and they'll have an excellent straight 6
Toyota instead stuck two of the three cylinder on the bottom to create a turbo V6. Where do you find this engine? Why it's the one on the Tundra, Sequoia, GX550 and Land Cruiser.
SUPRA!
It's about them making money, not about making the car you wish they would at additional expense with limited sales.
The car version of MKBHD. Keep up the good work bro

I will never understand why the LC500 wasnt just called Supra from the beginning...
Agree 💯
That ugly aß slow aß overpriced grand tourer? Have you not seen people losing their šit over Ford calling Mustang Mach E a Mustang?
Why would a boat-sized, luxury and V8 powered car be a supra successor? Be serious bruh
They're both GT cars, but they'd never be able to charge LC500 money for a Toyota. Also, I believe they really wanted to keep it an inline 6.
i’ll help you understand. it’s because that’s the commercialized poor man’s LFA. The design is not similar by coincidence…
I don't think that either company intended their cars to sell like Corvettes. The MKV is an incredible car that is a Car & Driver magazine's "Editor's choice" for good reason.
I mean, Toyota doesn’t have to kill it. Idk what the sales figures are for it, but I’ve seen enough of them on the road to assume it’s decent enough for its own powertrain. I mean, they could just take my suggestion and work with Yamaha for the new Mk VI i6 twin turbo/twin-scroll turbo. They make pretty nice engines for Lexus.
They don't sell very well from what I've heard, and the whole reason why they used BMWs platform, because they don't want to waste money on it.
I'll be honest, when it comes to the Supra the writing's been on the wall for quite some time. It was the kind of car that was steadily gaining some traction in the 90s, until the 3rd generation of the vehicle in which sales tanked hard... It's partly why they ended up working with BMW, on top of letting BMW take a thorough look at the Mirai (yeah that's right the hydrogen car). Given the BMW's walking away from Z series, which has an equally troubling sales history, I can see Toyota just putting an end to the farce that is the 4th gen.
I think the biggest problem Toyota has in creating a bespoke platform is that, especially in the US, sedans are really hard sell. The same can be said for sports cars to some degree, which is why quite a few of them are relatively high priced. I just don't see the Toyota Corporation justifying building a platform solely for the Supra alone... It's the kind of thing that got Nissan in a lot of trouble in the 90s, who created a lot of bespoke platforms that they could never justify.
Also the word on the street is that the Celica is coming back with a 400hp 4 cylinder and grfour
@takaradope Toyota will likely not make the Celica faster than the 3.0 GR Supra.
Its the Modern Version Of Holden GTO, The 04-06 Pontiac GTO was a solid car but the GTO name plate was known for representing America Muscle and the car was built in Australia. The Supra was known for representing Japanese sports cars but was built in Germany

What would be a more affordable sports car?
@@sherifmaghraby8842 GR86/BRZ, Miata. And that's about it now :(
It's because of production, not affordability. A lot of people can afford Supras and that's why there are long wait lists. It was just a project car for Toyota and an opportunity to keep the Z4 for BMW. They never planned to sell a lot.
@@alicekim7351 Not sure about the GR86 but the BRZ and Miata would fall more under "tuner/project" rather than sportscar. (but that's just my personal opinion, I see your point).
I owned every MR2 and still have my Mk3 MR2 Spyder. Nothing will beat a 2,000lbs sports car with none of the modern computer BS for around 20K at launch. Those days are over. People hated it because of the weak engine but it's nothing a turbo kit or swap won't fix, and still much cheaper than these "affordable" sports cars at 60K+
BTW I don't want the MR2 to come back as an ugly electric/hybrid or POS 3 cylinder.

By every objective measure it’s the best they ever made. People can disagree on subjective aspects.
Do a video on if your family needs a family Nissan but you want a GTR and how to combine them
I would love to see a 2+2 Supra that is still on a dedicated platform and is a true sports car.
The LC is that car, folks forget, or are too young to know just how expensive a Mk.IV was, almost $100K adjusted for inflation. Just test drive a used one, it's actually a great car and is comfortable to drive at speed like the older real Supras were. The only bad thing is it was never offered in hshift.
Bad idea to use the BMW chassis in the first place when they could've used the RC or LC platform from Lexus
what the fuck are you talking about those are 4000+lb old man cars
Then mark it up 100k+ and people would still complain about the price of the car that is less than 400hp

They aren't killing it. They're building a actual Toyota model. Wait until you see the next Celica. I'm a Toyota enthusiast and have had Supras long before that movie caused the prices to skyrocket. I can't even take out my MK4 out but to car shows. Haters have keyed it,dinged it and sat on it to take pictures. It's maddening. I have a first generation Celica/Supra that's highly modified. I originally put a 2j in it but I hurt it money shifting...... just being honest. We all make mistakes. I pulled the 2j out for a rebuild and threw a LS 5.3 in it and put 13 lbs to it. Now I'm not sure if I'm putting the 2J back in. I had to put a full cage in her just to stop the windshield from popping out on a hard launch. I intend to put a C7 transmission in it soon but there's a lot of fabrication involved. She's a beast though. There's not much on four wheels that can keep up. If you see a gold 85 Supra in NEPA...... Give it your best. I'm always ready. Just let me heat em up first. You'll get a nice look at my custom taillights. If you're lucky I'll throw the hazard's on for you.
If they nail a new Celica - that would be exciting; but would they return Supra to a submodel/trim demarcation of the Celica like the olden days?
@gravyd316 Lots of B58 GR Supras are putting down 8-9 second quarter miles.

You could daily this as much as any newer bmw and expect it operate proficiently. I dont think its been out many years either. That alone creates a rarity element. Definitely a bunch of people already bought them as collection cars.
I saw a purple Z4 today and I gotta say that thing is pretty sick looking. I've never understood why it's not more popular
Toyota is worth a quarter trillion dollars, I don’t think the lack the finances to make a Supra from the ground up, that’s what they should have done from the beginning
You clearly don't understand how modern corporations work. You think just because they can 'afford' to lose the money they are going to? The shareholders would riot
It wouldn’t be profitable for them as that’s why they won’t do it. It’s would end up being a 100k+ car that the average Toyota fan wouldn’t be able to afford. If they really wanted to, they would’ve done it already.

Toyota is out of line partnering with BMW to bring back one of its own iconic cars. Reports say that Toyota and BMW didn’t see eye to eye on quality standards no surprise there.
That doesn't make any sense, because reports for years had Toyota claiming that the B58 met their standards of quality along with other components and the rest of the drivetrain...........
Toyota doesn’t just meet their quality standards they exceed them. Once standards are met they go back and look for potential failure points. Triple check all components something BMW has no interest in. BMW claimed that the test was redundant, not necessary and too time consuming. A modern MR2 with the 3 cylinder turbo from the Corolla sounds like fun
Toyota "nailed" the looks? You don't hear that often.
Major props to Toyota for even wanting to make another Supra again. Not only that, but actually doing it in a way that didn’t feel like just another car but rebadged. Both the Z4 and Supra have their own unique properties that actually make them feel like two completely different cars and if you honestly changed the engine sound and remove all BMW badging, the average consumer would probably not even realize that it shares a lot of DNA with the Z4. Remove the fake vents and the look of the car is timeless as well.
Just like people hated on the MK4 Supra and later appreciated it close to the end of its life, I’m positive the same will happen with the Supra.

Not true. Toyota said the Supra would have cost $100k "if" they build the Supra on their own.

All I’ve heard is that Toyota is building a mid-engine Supra….based on lotus Emira?!😮
One of the issues with the z4 is the fact that the m2 exists, it's just better in every way other than ability to lower the roof.
I wonder if Toyota would actually make one on their own, all the rest of their recent sports cars have been partnerships with Subaru.
But they will be making a new mr2 so maybe they can.
Out here looking like Jet Jackson on the thumbnail.
Toyota isn't killing it BMW is.
They are making room for the celica and MR2 watch 👀
It wouldn't be that much to develop their own. They already have a platform, the LEXUS RC. It would just require they don't use an inline 6, but people moaned about the R35 not having an RB but they got over it. They should've never gotten in bed with BMW in the first place. It sullied the Supra name and gave BMW control over their car...
It wasnt going to sell a large volume to start with, which is why they collaborated. Just lik5 the mx5 with fiat 124. Its just cheaper than developing a low volume car from the ground up. When their heart is in it, they do it themselves.
Toyota could always their own Supra but they don’t want to because a replacement isn’t even in development. Guess we’ll have to wait for the new MR2.
I have a 2020 & its tuned i wont sell it . The tunablity of the 2020. Guy u have to remember Toyota didn't have a Flat 6! So a new engine Supra would have been a 100k easy & it wouldn't have sold at that price!
Toyota can never come close to what BMW can do in motorsports. Buy a supra, garage it, and sell it later for $$$
I am still confused why Toyota don’t use their engines and powertrains. They have the GR series V6 engines like 4GR and 2GR used by lotus, and also the V8 engines in Lexus are great. Should just partner with lotus and make something.
People would still hate it and they would have lost a lot of buyers because most people expected the Supra to come with a redesigned 2jz or 3jz and the price of the new Supra would probably have been more than $100k.
You can call a piece of shit a flower all you want, it’s still a piece of shit not a flower. That is not a Supra and never will be.
They should make a supra with the v10 that they put in the lexus lfa 😂
And then watch them charge customers $300k plus for it😭
Bro really just called this bmw supra "the best one they ever made " with a straight face . This is why I can't watch Americans reviewing Japanese cars.
They are only selling 3,000 of these a year in the U.S.
When this one is gone, it's gone. No way Toyota will pay for the development costs on it's own to produce a more expensive and definitely slower selling version of the car it has now.
Good, they should develop a 3JZ GTR to complete the trilogy
They already killed The Supra though, working with a Competitor to make a new version of something was where they went completely wrong and killed The Supra
Because it is still $49,000 and I can’t afford it 😂
tough market with low volume sales. Not surprising if they go with the Celica instead, makes much more sense, more volume.
The value of the MK5 Supras will be sky high if this is the case.

This Frankenstein was NEVER a Supra.
They’re not killing it off because bmw is killing the z4. Toyotas contract with magna steyr is ending; It was only a 7 year contract.
No need for the Supra when the Celica and MR-2 are coming back.
The loss of the Z4 is the bigger issue
Part of the supras appeal is the engine, maybe if their current V6 TT motor from the Tundra gets straightened out it might be a Supra engine?
And also the Lotus in using the celica engine with a supercharger and the Camry V6 with a supercharger as well.
The issue is that it would have to be a inline 6. Toyota doesn't have one. THat means a new supra will go from $60k to over 100k.
Second biggest car company in the world, and they can’t build their own flagship sports car. Pathetic
1) it really bugs me how almost NO ONE will acknowledge Toyotas work on the B54 engine. It's reliable because Toyota worked with BMW redesigning parts to meet Toyota standards
2) if Toyota ever does revive it as a fully Japanese car, it'll probably have a 4cyl with iForce Max. Which would just upset a lot of fans 🤷🏽♂️
3) If what I hear about the MR2 specs and price is accurate, then the Supra and MR2 would just cannibalize each others sales
Tbh I was shocked that Toyota hadn't partnered up with lotus. I mean come on, they're using YOUR engine, why not use it yourself???
They‘re doing the new MR2 and Celica gt so they‘ll for sure keep doing sports coupes
