    I usually just read everyone else's reviews, comments and posts and fix things from that, but felt a need to post a comment for this one. Once I got involved with pulling the tub from the shaft, I too became a victim of the years of corrosion, gunk and crud that practically glued the tub to the shaft and trunion. I removed the five bolts for the trunion thinking that the tub would come out easier but no joy. Rather than pulling up on the tub, I figured i would try a side motion to break the static friction. I put a pair of vice grips on the shaft, (careful not to mar the splines) and pulled the shaft in one direction and had an extra set of hands grab the tub and rotate the opposite direction. It worked like magic. Tub came "unglued" from corrosion and was able to pull of the shaft with ease. I hope this helps someone who might realize that this video is unrealistic and that when opening up the tub, you have corroded bolt heads, seized bolts, corrosion everywhere etc and nothing works except brute force.. thanks for all the comments

    To remove the tub, I fabricated a "tub puller". I bought three 5/16 X 36" threaded rods, screwed them into 3 of the 5 bolt holes in the bottom of the tub, made a cross brace across the top of the agitator shaft using 1" steel square tubing formed into a T-shape, drilled holes in the correct locations so that my 3 threaded rods poked through the cross brace, then started running down nuts on the threaded rods to apply even force around the bottom of the tub. Had that puppy yanked out of there in 15 minutes. Worked beautifully.

    Similarly, as others have said, the video shows a new machine being worked on. Advise: allow the machine to dry out as much as possible before working on it. Lube the trunion bolts with WD40 or PB Break. Give the product time to sink in. (20 min) Then tap the trunion with a leather or rubber mallet. You do not want to crack the trunion, it is cast metal. Work the inner bucket up and down as needed. You may need to lube the transmission shaft. I did with liquid soap. Once off, wash the whole mess with dish soap and a hose. See part two.

    Thanks for your video...your video helped greatly in fixing my friends Frigidaire Gallery washing-machine via your video. When in taking it apart, I noticed the small ring rubber gasket (above the copper ring) was 99.99% gone. We replaced all three parts (using your part number) and I did add white lithium grease to the new small ring rubber gasket that would come in contact with the aluminum part of the tub.

    Well, I finally finished it. I started about 11:45 and it is now about 3:45, a little bit longer than his 3 minute video! As I expressed earlier his step by step video on a new washer just doesn't relate in the real world. My Frigidaire Gallery is about 8 yrs old and it started leaking around the bottom of the center of the tub, I'm no service repairman but I knew it was the seal. I'm a home remodeler by trade and I restore old motorcycles so I'm use to fixing things but I had never tackled this before.So if this is helpful (because the video version wasn't in real life) I'm going to tell how I did it and what to expect which the video didn't. After I pulled off the dispenser and cup there was another cover under them that I had to pry off with a knife that he doesn't tell you about, maybe the NEW ones don't have that cover, anyway then unbolt the agitator and pull it off (that's easy). Now you are going to find a dirty nasty (in my case anyway after 8 yrs) trunnion and bottom of your inner tub. I also noticed a bunch of oval screens that were clogged up with dried soap and gunk. After I removed the trunnion block I thought oh this is sooo easy until I tried to pull the tub out. It was stuck like it was glued with super glue, so after reading some other comments the "tub puller" made sense but I didn't want to take a trip to the store for the stuff and spend more time fabricating it. The tapping on the trunnion also made sense and I didn't have to go anywhere so I chose that. After 45 minutes of tapping, tapping, tapping and spraying WD 40 around the shaft I realized this wasn't working either ( but it might for you). So I decided to remove the tub from the trunnion by removing the 5 bolts at the bottom of the tub thinking that if I get the inner tub out of the way I would try to pry the trunnion loose from the shaft, ha ha ha. The damn tub was stuck to the trunnion! Well I'm pissed off now, I'm into this way longer than I wanted to be on a Saturday and a hell of a lot longer than he shows in the video. So I go to my garage and get my 3lb hammer, screw the tapping I want this over with.I don't beat the trunnion and shaft but I "tap" it a little harder than with my hammer, still nothing. I do this for about 15-20 minutes and continually spray WD 40 thinking that apparently the shaft is rusted to the trunnion but that still doesn't explain why the plastic tub was stuck to the trunnion so I clean out around the trunnion where it meets the tub spray it with WD 40 and this time I tap the top of the shaft, I thought what the hell nothing else works and PRESTO the tub broke loose from the trunnion (I was soooo happy) now all I had to do was get the trunnion off. When I tapped the top of the shaft it also broke the trunnion loose from the shaft but it didn't want to come right off but with some tapping from the bottom and some wriggling it came off. Hot dog, I'm finally at the seal. In the video he says "just push down on the seal and pull it out" well that might work for you but after 15 minutes of that I got some plyers and twisted it and it came off in 2 seconds.Now I take everything outside and clean all the parts, especially the inner part of the trunnion and the screens on the tub. You'll know what I'm talking about when you see it. Now it's time to install the new seal and put everything back together. I coat the new seal with liquid soap around the bottom outer edge and the inner top for less friction and a better seal and press it in place, then I coat the rubber gasket so it fits easier into the brass ring and makes it easier to slide up and down the shaft. I coat the inner trunnion with soap so it will slide easier over the shaft making sure the trunnion lines up with the shaft so I can bolt on the trunnion block (so far so good). I put the tub in and bolt it to the trunnion and then install the agitator and tell my wife I'll be done in 5 minutes. Now it's time for the top cover, in the video he snaps that thing on in 2 seconds, well of course that didn't happen with me. It doesn't fit just right and it took me 10 minutes to just "snap it back in place" but I'm finally done. We have washed 3 loads and no leaks so I guess I can put the front panel on and call it fixed. I hope you don't have as much trouble as I did but if you do, you know how I did it.

      +1952frenchman I am stuck at he "extra" cover you mentioned in line 6, seen after you remove the dispenser. Mine says do not remove service only and has a tab in the middle. Is it screwed or bolted because I can't budge the thing from the rim,I'm just peeling the plastic back.

    • @tonyferrantello9934

      +Laura Gerbec Hi, I just saw your comment. It's been a year since I've done mine so I'm sure I've forgotten most of what I've done. My extra cover might have said " do not remove" also, I don't remember, but I do remember that I was so frustrated with it and so pissed off about the video (nobody works on a brand new machine, they're not the ones that break down and get stuck, they were not being realistic but at least they showed you the different parts of the machine). I do remember however that I was so frustrated and pissed off about how long it was taking that I didn't care anymore if I broke the thing and had to buy a new one. My wife would have been happy about that. To answer your question, sorry for the long winded crap, I think I did unbolt or unscrew something down there because by then I just didn't care, I was either going to break it or fix it. They do that "service only " stuff because they don't want YOU to fix it. I just had to figure it out how to get parts off but after all the old stuff is off it's fairly easy after that. Oh, and it's been over a year now and no problems. Good luck

      +1952frenchman i can echo these steps of tapping the shaft with a mallet combined with the other commenter suggesting a vice grip on the top of the shaft and pull the tub in opposite direction (combined with liberal amounts of wd40) I was able to get the trunnion and tub off the shaft after about 30 mins or so

    Part 2: in the bottom of the inner basket there are mesh screens to assist in draining. Be certain NOT to use pressure or tools to clean these. They are fragile. Allow to soak with a dish type soap. Laundry soap will not work for this. Rinse the mesh with gentle water, a hose sprayer but not a jet stream. If they puncture you are getting a new inner basket. Might as well give the inside of the agitator a good hose off and the inner rim too. When replacing the parts, lube with only detergent. Oil will deteriorate the gaskets.
    Part 3 is general maintenance.

    Hi, Does the small gasket should be fitted into the brass ring? Cause for mine its hard to put it inside exactly fit into the brass ring, but in your video, it seems its just put on top. Please need your reply soon. Thank you and need your advice and maybe have some videos of how to fit it in in exactly inside the ring.

    getting an old tub off is the hard part. I tapped my trunion down a little to break it loose. Then I went to Lowe's and bought two turnbuckles for about 3 bucks apiece. I had to bend the hooks on the turnbuckles straight so that they would go into the trunion bolt holes. My turnbuckles were the biggest ones I saw, and they just barely fit into the trunion bolt holes. Then I hooked a piece of chain (the kind I tow my cars with) over the top bolt and to the turnbuckles. After I tightened the turnbuckles and applied a significant pressure, I tapped downwards on the trunion which loosened the corrosion and let the trunion slide upwards. I had to keep cranking the turnbuckles and tapping until the tub came up about an inch. Then it let loose.

      The reason I want to replace my tub seal is because water is leaking from that area of the tub, but I'm having a hell of a time lifting off my trunnion.

    Part 3. If you would like to keep something like this from happening again. Be sure to run the machine about once a month with a high quality laundry soap and the washer on the hot water cycle. (Do not do the laundry as this cycle) The idea is to allow the soap to work on the machine surfaces, not take more soil out of clothes and deposit it in the machine. Remember, parts wear out. That is the nature of machines. Just do what you can to prolong the process and your repair bills will be far less.

    Any suggestions on getting the trunnion block mounting bolts off? I cleaned off a lot of gunk from them on my washer (and sprayed WD40 in the crevices of the trunnion to loosen things up), and have tried using a 1/2" socket as recommended in the video, but it's too big to wrap around the bolts and the next smaller size socket I have (imperial or metric) is too small. The bolts seem more rounded like polygonal which might be why part the socket doesn't fit. Any way I get the trunnion off?

    • @repairclinic
      @repairclinic  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can try some wd-40 or similar product to try and loosen the bolts. Spray it on and let it set awhile and see if that helps. If it still won’t come off you may need to find a piece of tubing to slide over the socket handle to give you more leverage. Worst thing that could happen is you break the bolts and will have to get a new bar and bolts.

    Is it possible that the gasket on top of the tub seal could deteriorate and make it look like the tub seal is bad? I have taken the tub seal out of My Fridgidaire Gallery top load washer, and the seal looks fine. I didn't find a gasket, just a tub seal and brass ring.

    • @repairclinic

    What you should have showed us is how to get the inner tub out of an older machine that is stuck than out of a new one. I'm pretty sure everyone that is searching for help on this matter is not going to try to fix a new one. I appreciate the procedure but you are missing the most time consuming part. When it is stuck and you don't know how to get it off, you're dead in the water.

    • @repairclinic
      @repairclinic  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the tub is difficult to remove, you will need to use whatever force is necessary to break it loose. Sometimes you have to break the tub support to remove it and replace it with a new one. First try using lubricant on the tub support and shaft and let it set awhile; this may help loosen rust or corrosion. Clean off the transmission shaft with a wire brush or sandpaper to help the tub support slide off. Sometimes just turning the tub back and forth will break it free. We're sorry to learn are having so much trouble with your unit!
