    Thanks for an excellent video!! My washer is older and came with a house and thus I don't know the age. The bolts were corroded enough they didn't even pretend to budge and both snapped off. You can replace them with any 5/16 X 1-1/2 bolt. (I probably would use grade 5) I was able to get the broken stubs out of the block. My tub was then frozen fast to the transmission shaft. The comment was made in the video that you might have to take the plastic part of the tub off with those 5 bolts in the bottom. Before you try that, find a pipe that just fits over the transmission shaft and is longer. The best way to free up the tub is to hit straight down on the pipe. Don't go more than a quarter inch or so, but definitely tapping straight down is the best way to free it up. The seals underneath are designed such that they can compress. I wouldn't squash the new seal, but the old one is getting replaced anyway, and it doesn't hurt anything.

      How did you get the broken bolts out of the block?

    • @syria4all1
      @syria4all1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mikefabrizio you have to use heat with precaution from damaging surrounding plastic parts or penetrating oil "not as effective".
      also you can cut slot in it and use flat end screw driver.

    To everyone who owns the same washer or similar washers with numerous models/brands but similar design (they apply to stackable and single washers), please read this. If you experience the washer is still leaking after doing this procedure, please check that the seal snaps and clicks into place because I had done the same procedure and the seal fits loosely into the housing and not clicking into place but rather sitting loose, it may be that these machines built in previous years the housing is much more bigger in diameter and probably newer ones have a smaller diameter, maybe there was some error in manufacturing or some small defect but it took me weeks to notice before getting the tub seal that is seen in this video. This was done in my GE space maker (WSM2700HBWW) stackable washer and dryer. It is recommended to get a new outer tub along with a seal so that it will snap into place. Machines/brands do vary and years may also vary. I hope this helps everyone.

    Excellent step by step video. One of the bolts snapped and I replaced with a stainless. I also had some surface rust and imperfections on the shaft that I smoothed down with a scotch guard pad.

      I had a bolt snap too. 😧. Ended up just cutting the whole trunnion off and buying a new one. Still cheaper than a new washer though. 😉

    Excellent instructions, worked very well for me. As mentioned by other users, I had to twist the bowl in order to get it out as there was some rust and gunk on the shaft. We also had a lot of gunk sitting on the bolts but the metal brush did the trick and after some gentle knocks with the hammer all around, both bolts came out without any problems. Instructions as to remove the seal and replace it were spot on as well and worked exactly as described. First wash is done and no leaking!!!

    I just had to go through the pain of trying to separate the tub and i spent 3 days of trying literally everything. At a moment of desperation, i poured hot water on the trunnion and down the shaft and within minutes it loosened up and i was able to shake it loose. I’m guessing the hot water melted the stuck on fabric softener and detergent.

    • @ccarl03
      @ccarl03 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This was the advice I needed. The tub was still stuck after soaking in penetrating oil and cleaning as much gunk and rust off the shaft as possible. Hot water made all the difference.

  • @czhou57
    @czhou57 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    One thing you have to do is a thorough inspection of the shaft and seal mating surface. If there's any rust or putting the seal will never make a good seal, and over time the imperfections will grind down on the seal causing a leak again.
    With that said, I couldn't get my seal to work with the instructions shown here. It kept leaking like there was a big hole in the rubber, even worse than old one. There would be a gallon of water on the floor by the time the tub finished filling. It was so bad. The leak on the new seal came mostly between the brass plate and spring loaded seal that goes into the tub. Since there is nothing connecting the two pieces that's where all the leaks came from.
    What I ended up doing is installing it with the rubber washer and brass piece upside down. I took the three pieces (brass ring, washer, and removable upper part of the tub seal) and assembled them outside. The upper tub seal has an indentation that is exactly the size of the washer, and the rubber washer fits perfectly sandwiched between the upper seal and brass ring. It's like it belonged there Then I applied lube and slid the 3 pieces together all the way down and compressed the spring slightly, mating all the pieces.
    Then I installed the hub and trunion plates only without the tub onto the shaft. This makes the trunion plate so much easier to install. The hub slightly compresses on the spring to make contact and the constant spring force keeps everything sealed up. Once I had the hub and trunion all locked down, then I replaced the tub and 5 bolts.
    Hope this helps someone. It took at least 5 tries doing it the way shown on this video before finding my solution. It's been at least 30 cycles through testing and no leaks so far.

    I just did this on my washer about 10 plus years old. It took little over 2 hours due to how rusted the bolts have become. I had to spray pb blaster and let soak. then tap with hammer for while to lossen shaft moving the tub back and forth until it started to move. adding more bp and cleaning up lose rust. until It slowly came off shaft. I cleaned all bolts and lighty sanded shaft to remove some of the rust. I think letting soak and tapping around shaft and collar were the most helpful in breaking it loose. Hard job due to rust but ran it and no leaking. other part was cleaning tub was surprised how much dirt and debri was in bottom of tank.

    Tried it but Trunnion part number 131545101 wont come out as easy as it look.
    had to cut it in pieces and hammer it out the wash basket it is much harder than it look on 15 year old washer with lot of junk stuck in it.
    also it would be good idea to replace the belt while you are at it because of the water damage it and you won't need to open it again.

    Great instruction on the mechanics aspect of this job however... it bothers me that you lacked in the cleaning process of the tub and basket and left a lot of debris in there. Also that attaching block that fits into the slot on the shaft looked very corroded. That should have been replaced and the two bolts should have been cleaned with a wire brush. I would never allow myself to be content with my workmanship without doing the (entire) job the best that I could.

You can give us a call at 1-877-477-7278 or you can chat us at our website: www.appliancepartspros.com/. We will need the model number for the appliance, so that we can look up diagrams and information about your specific unit to give you accurate advice. You can look here on our website to help you find the model number: www.appliancepartspros.com/modelnumber_locator.aspx

      Without a model number it would be hard to say. You can go to our website and enter your appliance model number to view the parts breakdowns to be sure you get the correct part for your model and see where they go. www.appliancepartspros.com/

      Your model number is different than the one we used in the video but it uses the same tub seal so the video should help out a lot!

    This video series is much appreciated by those of us inclined to do our own repairs. Thank you for the series.
    What do you do if the agitator will not come off? After taking the bolt out, mine will only lift about 3 cm (about 1.125 inches), then it is solid and will not lift up any further. I have tried penetrating oil around the spline area, and in the bolt hole, but nothing seems to be loosening up.
    Any useful info would be greatly appreciated.
    One note to those using penetrating oil, be careful not to get it into the clutch rollers as it will make them slip. I packed the area with a rag to stop this from happening again after a drop got onto one of the rollers and caused clutch to start slipping. It worked it's way out thankfully.
    Thanks,
    - Tim -

    When you said you lifted the hub off the shaft without the tub on , how did you do that?

      After the bolts and the trunnion block are removed, the inner tub can be lifted out. It may be stuck to the shaft pretty tight due to the soap and corrosion over the years of use. You can try soaking it with penetrating oil and letting it sit for a while. Afterwards, you can use a small screw driver to try to chisel anything out and flex it loose. Grab the agitator shaft and rock it back and forth to try to loosen it.

      Which step is it where you're running into trouble?

    • @appliancepartspros
      @appliancepartspros  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      So you were able to get the bolts and the trunnion block off, but now the hub is stuck to the shaft, correct? Those are notorious for getting stuck. Really clean that whole area, then thoroughly soak everything in rust buster and let it set for a while so it has time to penetrate: www.appliancepartspros.com/pro-rust-buster-tj93241-ap5638848.html Do that a couple of times to see if it will loosen it. Try to use a small screw driver to chisel out any build up. Flex it and rock it back and forth to try to break it free.
      If that doesn't work, you can remove the five bolts around the shaft that hold the tub to the trunnion/hub. Once you remove the inner tub, that may give you more room to work to be able to free the trunnion from the shaft.
      Worst case scenario is that it's stuck so badly, you have to chisel off the old trunnion to get it off and buy a replacement.

      Have you thoroughly soaked everything in rust buster yet?
