    When I was a kid we sold hundreds of Georgia Boot boots in my family's shoe store. That old Georgia Giant logo brings back floods of memories. Georgia positioned themself as the "Giant Value" in work footwear to which the logo stood for. This boot seems to be a much upped quality in materials over the old Georgia Giant 5008 (if memory serves me) which looked similar and was made with a Vulcan (the sole manufacturer) neo-cork thicker and stiffer sole (that sole did not have to have a mid-sole) and heel that was nailed on. Farmers loved the old 5008 because of the smooth sole which they could work in the fields and come in the house for lunch without tracking a bunch of soil and debris. I personally love the Vibram Eton soles used on this boot. The Eton wears like pig iron and is supremely flexible for comfort and ease of break-in. This is a special version of the Eton sole with infused cork by the way. I appreciate the addition of a mid-sole here as it adds much more strength than it's thin profile would seem. Along with the Goodyear Welt construction this is a sturdy made boot. The foam can be replaced with cork when re-soled with a new mid-sole which is what we regularly do in my shoe repair facility when we full-soles and heels. This is a worthy boot in my opinion as a third-generation shoe repair person. You hit this one square on the head with your review I have to say.

    I take it back. I followed the link , entered the discount code , and scored the $115 price and free ship. Can't justify a $200 or $300 boot purchase (I'm retired and won't be building my own house anytime soon!) But I've always like this look and the entry level price with decent construction is all I need at this point . Thanks, Weston.

    I was hoping you did the Georgia Boot Small Batch “cut in half”. I stumbled upon Georgia Small Batch because I need a wide width, and have yet to find a heritage style boot that has the right shape and width for me. Georgia carries many of their Small Batch models in wide, so I took a chance because of the excellent price for a Goodyear welt. I now have two pairs of Small Batch (both found on sale for $100), and I love them. They are the most comfortable boot I’ve worn to date, and I’ve owned boots from several heritage brands (redwing, danner, Thursday, etc). The last they use is perfect for my foot. They may not survive 20 years like a pair of iron rangers, but they have a very similar look, are way more comfortable (IMO), and will likely last many years with normal wear, and with a little care. No brainer.

    • @AlexanderMason1
      @AlexanderMason1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      They definitely won’t last years. All the synthetic foams in there are meant to be comfortable right off the bat but barely last a couple of months before they get flatAnd become extremely uncomfortable. Higher quality boots like iron rangers that have leather and cork souls are uncomfortable at first but become the most comfortable boots out there and last for an incredibly long time. They are also worth the resole. In my opinion, the Goodyear welt on these is basically a gimmick. It’s more of a nuisance at that point as a waterproof cemented leather boots my be more durable depending on the climate you’re in. That being said, they look ok. A bit like wolverines 1000 miles. Congrats on them.

      Couldn't have said it better myself. I have a pair in black and one in brown that I have been wearing for six months now with no issues. Getting more and more comfortable and with wide feet I also appreciate the wider style. Vibram soles, real leather Goodyear welt and some really nice leather on the uppers. Like the man said, a hundred bucks. I actually saw the brown ones going for $85.00 at one point. You can't beat them for value. And I too was hoping I'd see them cut in half some day. Money well spent!

    • @bw3126
      @bw3126 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      A. Mason - I’ve had one pair for well over a year now with regular use and they are holding up very well. No issues with breakdown of materials. I’m well aware of the components that go into an iron ranger or the likes (as I’ve owned a pair in the past. The Georgia’s aren’t iron rangers, but they are not fall apart boots either. They are hands down more comfortable than a broken in pair of rangers (for me personally), and will definitely last several years given how the first year and a half has gone.

I picked up a pair of these Georgia Boots for $127 including tax, and so far I'm really liking them. I have a very wide, flat foot and have trouble finding shoes that are comfortable. I figured I would roll the dice and ordered their 13 Wide and if I didn't like it send it back. But I was happy to see that their wide is an actual wide width, and I find them quite comfortable! Just got the moc toe version today. I'm pleased. Good fit and comfy right out of the box, great toe room even with my thickest socks on. Fairly lightweight for the style. I've added thicker cushy insoles but they were fine as they came. I wore them around out in town for a few hours with the original insoles and they were fine. Won't be wearing them daily but break-in still should not take too long.
    Only suggestion for Georgia would be to make the tongue gussetted because it has none at all. Not good. Also, add a cushioned collar at the top, but that's not a dealbreaker.
    If they're on sale, I would recommend.

    I’m wearing these boots right now, and have been for the past few months. I have really liked them for the most part. Had I seen this video prior to my purchase, I’m not sure I would have made the purchase. I was under the impression that there would have been at least one layer of leather in the midsole in the good year welt. The synthetic materials were more plentiful than assumed. The leather is pretty prone to scratches. Also, when I paused on the close up on the welt, it looked to me like the leather of the body may not have met the welt stitching. I do think his conclusion is pretty accurate. For someone going for the boot style, these are pretty good. Prices is probably fair. I had previously though I got a great deal thinking this was competition with $200ish boots for $129 when I bought them.

Belleville and Rocky are the most popular in my career field; however, I find the Corcoran to fit better and last longer due to the stitching on the midsole compared to the cemented construction of my Belleville's.

    I bought a pair of these recently. Love them. I liked them so much, I bought another Georgia Small batch, a wedge boot. I liked those so much, I just ordered another pair in a different color. Very comfortable, they look great and the lacing system is perfect with the wax shoe strings. I don't know what those types of eyelets are called at the top of the boot, but they make lacing up and taking off so much easier than the other types of eyelets I've had on boots. I hope Georgia keeps doing these small batch runs of traditional casual looking boots like these and the wedge versions I've bought.

    Thanks for all your work and reviews. Just discovered your vids, and they are helping me greatly.
    For a long time I did field work as a biologist in eastern forests, streams and wetlands. I was on my feet and moving 10-12 hours a day. My go-to boot was always a 6" lace up, Goodyear welt, model from Georgia Boot. Always had one pair that fit summer sock, and one that fit winter sock. Can't recall the model number, but it disappeared from the lineup around year 2000.
    It was a very sturdy design with excellent leather, and I would have the soles replaced each year cuz they wore out before the leather. When I needed to replace the boot I could not find them on-line. Finally found an Army Navy store in Ohio with new ones in my sizes. I bought them all, even the ones in 8". By 2020 I had used them all up.
    I have never found a similar quality build at a comfortable price point. I think I was paying $90-$110/pair. Now it looks like that gets you $hit boots from Georgia Boot. To get the same build quality it looks like RedWing cap toes for $400 are the closest option.
    Thanks again for all your work.

      It used to be a Chippewa. Built very similarly to the now extinct Chippewa Heritage line. This might sound odd but their old service boot fit me the best of any boot. Unfortunately the insole cracked and at $300, 7 years old, it didn't seem worth rebuilding. Veg Tan insole, steel shank, and some odd filler material, and a Cork Vibram Vbar 700. That sole sucks on ice but wow is it durable and comfy! The LL Bean boot that used to have the good rep was based on the Munson last and built the exact same as what I mentioned with the exception of a artificial insole similar to Thursday boots. Brian the Boot maker shows some resoles if you want to look them up.

They are a cottage industry in the uk thats been going for over 100 years, apparently they use a unique technique of connecting the upper to the sole using brass wires with an old machine that is one of two left in the world. I just took apart a pair of Georgia logger boots that my parents bought me in 1998 or so. It was made in Taiwan and I remember them being at a small discount so that they cost $188 or some other oddly specific amount.
    They were actually built quite well, they were just made out of mostly crappy materials. Paper toe cap and foot bed. The leather for the uppers seemed to have no conditioning done to it at all. Dye and a finish/paint on the outside. Thin rubber pad in the gemming with a metal but too-long shank just glued under it with no nails and no cover.
    One weird thing about the construction: The rubber mid-sole seemed to work BUT it had a hard, slick plastic heel pad that offered pretty much nothing for the leather upper to adhere to. The heel itself was a tank but the way it was affixed to the upper was bizarre: 4 nails down through the paper foot bed; amother few that came up through the mid-sole and crimped into the foot bed. All of that was normal...but there were also several tiny nails that went into the bottom of the upper's heel area but didn't actually attach it to the plastic heel pad or rubber mid-sole...maybe they had been fabricated into it and were pulled out? It was bizarre, and both heels were pulling away from the sole.
    Also...there were several miniature staples that seemed to supplement attaching the upper to the 270-degree welt, even though the stitching was plenty sturdy. About 5 of them on the right boot and 15 (!) of them on the left boot. Also bizarre. It's a good thing that the vamps need to be replaced, because when I pulled them, those little staples tore some holes through the bottom of the vamp where it attaches to the welt.
    There were a few good things. The welt was plastic and cracked but was robust and stitched tight. The gemming was robust and had a plastic core. The rubber stacked heel was nailed through and as sturdy as any proper logger boot. The Georgia branded lug sole was durable. The stitching went through the outsole, mid sole, and welt and kept everything together until the plastic welt cracked on the right boot. All stitching was straight and tight, and the thread they used on the welt/sole was really robust. Even the heel counter support is made of molded plastic but has still kept its shape admirably.
    So overall, I wasn't impressed for the price, especially in 1998 dollars. I bought both my Thorogoods in 2011 and 2012 discounted I think for around $130-$150 each and they are much better quality with better leather, as are my German hiking boots and Walk-Over shoes, none of which cost more than the Georgia loggers.
    I'm going to replace the vamps and maybe heel counters with roughout leather, replace the bent and broken speed hooks, put in leather liners for the heel (none originally) and vamp (cloth originally), cut new foot beds, and build up new soles with proper leather welts, heel pads, mid-soles, and heel blocks, and cork filler. Vibram or Dr. Sole this time.

    These small batch boots look good, and per your presentation here, it looks as if they would be a good "starter" boot. In the same breath, though, it's sad to see Georgia Boot ship out their manufacturing to China. I have a couple pairs of Georgia Boots that are now vintage, made in USA quality, as they used to be made here. It would be interesting to see a US-made Georgia Boot comparison to this.

      My father wore Georgia boots as a pipe fitter for years. They had a year warranty back then and were top notch. Fast forward 20 yrs and I started wearing georgias for work and enjoyed them at first, but seems they drastically declined in quality after my first couple pair. The boot store I buy work boots at actually quit selling them altogether due to the quality decline so I switched to thorogoods

      I own a pair of both brands but different styles. My Georgia are composite toe logger boots, super heavy. My Thoroughgoods are moc toes. I like the Thoroughgoods better but feel like the Georgia's may be better built, Biggest complaint about the Thoroughgoods is the soles worn too fast.

    Those look really nice. I'm really impressed that it has a metal shank while being more cost effective. I find that's the one thing I'm wishing I had and knew about was missing in my current boots. The synthetic materials don't bother me as much, and it's nice that the insole is replaceable essentially. I just recently realized what a nightmare it is trying to find a good quality work boot because there are so many options and new tech being used. I watched and read reviews for weeks trying to choose the right boot. I ended up getting a pair of carolina maximus 2.0 which so far have been good but I've only wore them a few days and am still breaking them in.
