There is a much greater story here that makes the song even more impactful than you experienced. Or perhaps is the reason she sang it so impactfully and hauntingly.
Eva was a jazz, blues, and folk singer in the 1980s and '90s. She was not greatly known outside her home area of Washington DC at the time. In 1996, at the age of 33, tragically she was diagnosed with melanoma and passed away only 10 months after this performance. Ironically, following her death, she became a legend internationally, selling over 10 million records! Knowing that she was going to pass, The haunting nature of this performance brings tears to my eyes every time I listen.
Eva has many more performances on her TH-cam channel. Others what you made like to react to include Danny Boy, bridge over troubled water, time after time, Autumn leaves, songbird, people get ready. And of course there are others.
Posthumously launched to international stardom by the late and great Sir Terry Wogan, who made his mission.

Completely agree in that anyone who has a soul should watch all of her songs from this entire performance. It's so beautiful and haunting and makes me cry every time knowing she wasn't long for the world when this was recorded. RIP Eva you lovely, beautiful angel. You were taken away from us way, way too soon and the world is a lesser place without you in it.

Eva was very ill at the time of this recording. And was diagnosed with terminal cancer a few months later. And Eva passed in the Fall of that year. Eva was brilliant in every way. Maybe react to Eva's Danny Boy for your Irish pal? It is special.

That was such a beautiful rendition of this song. So sad that she is no longer with us. She died at only 33 years of age. I also love the version by Israel Kamakawiwoʻole. Sadly he also died young at 38 years of age. At least we have their music left as a legacy.

I have given many long winded comments on this performance. This time I just want to say that it was Other Worldly both in singing and her guitar playing. To me this demonstrates that God gave her this amazing talent to Glorify what is just maybe a new meaning to the song without changing a word, just the a new and deeper reality for it. Truly when we finally are ushered into Eternity, it will be SOMEWHERE OVER THAT RAINBOW that He gave us as a Sign in the Sky that He would never again destroy mankind. We have been given the choice to decide our own fate.
Words like Other Earthly, Phenomenal don't cover the way she covered this song into a new a future dimension. It draws a picture to me of how we will some day fly OVER THE RAINBOW during the Rapture to meet our Savior in the sky. Our accention into ETERNITY with the LORD.
HE who exists outside of space and time, gave her this wonderful ability that was recorded before she passed at 33 from cancer, to bring different moments in time we can understand together when we most need it. As we are entering the END TIMES of Prophecy, a few distant moments of time can be woven together to have a special new meaning.
Written for the movie "THE WIZZARD OF OZ" in 1939 and performed by the star of the movie, Judy Garland and enjoyed by young and old for years.
Sung by Eva in 1996, shortly before she died. She seems to have re-written the song without changing the lyrics to bring us a new meaning to we will fly over that rainbow(a symbol God put in the sky to remind us that he would never destroy mankind again) to meet our Lord and Savior ! ❤😊
