Every hairdresser should pass an obligatory Guy Tang Hair colourist course! After having my naturally curly hair completely burnt off by professionals (very expensive ones too) and multiple bad haircuts that made me look like the pyramid of Giza I lost my faith in hairdressers. But Guy Tang seems to be a Hair coloring god of some sort!

Yes exactly! I went to a hairdresser 3 years ago asking for subtle highlights and she not only burnt my hair but she burnt my scalp too. My hair just recently started growing back properly and the curls are still not the same as they used to be :( If I was in the US I would have sued her

I can't believe people get so much shit for having curly hair. Curly is, no matter the pattern or texture is so beautiful to me! I used to have my mom French braid my hair at night so that when I took it out in the morning, my hair would be big and curly and I loved it soooo much!

I personally think that you should try conditioning your hair, oiling it, not using heat. Keep them natural will lessen the damage..you'll get your hair back.
Also, there are tutorials for caring for curly hair.. so check 'em out if you wanna!
I LOVE it when you do natural hair and the best part is that you kept her curly. Usually the first thing people want to do with curls is fry them with the flat iron. Beautiful job!!!

I have natural curly hair and I've always wanted to dye my hair. I've always thought that having a silver blond, a balayage or even a nice light honey brown all over would be fun to have and a nice change. However whenever I go to the hair salon they tell me how it could fry my hair or if I go to light I could lose my curl texture. I love my curly hair and I'm proud of having it! It's apart of who I am .I just wish I could find a hairstylist that had your skills to be able to change up my hair up a bit. I'm also 19 heading to college and unlike most girls my age it seems like my hair hasn't changed much over the course of these past years. The only way I can change it up is by cutting it differently or straightening it once in a while. Thank you for making videos with people who have textured hair occasionally and fun hair color videos. I really enjoy watching them😊 hahaha plus they give me hope for the future too.

He's inexperienced with black hair. As a 4b one time I went to a white hairdresser who didn't specialize in black hair. When she was done my hair looked like a cotton ball. Although it was permanently straightened.

I'm very interested in seeing you color 4 type hair. I don't see many hair artists on TH-cam doing that type of hair.
I've been waiting for more videos on how to olaplex, lighter AND accentuate curls to frame the face for textured hair.
Now I can show my hairdresser this video so I know they aren't going to melt my hair or give me another blocky colour. The stakes are highly as these tresses take YEARS to regrow a couple of inches!
I'd be interested to see adventurous colours (like rose gold or ice) take on textured hair as well.

They can't grip greasy dirty hair, so the fact that your mom "drilled hair routine and maintenance," has nothing to do with why you never got lice. In fact, it just makes it more incredible that you didn't. In elementary school, that's basically having luck as a bestie.

I to struggeled with my curly hair when i was younger, my mom had no clue what products to use or how to style it. I can totally relate to Nikki, my experience was just like hers.I was always taken to white hairdressers that always wanted to straighten it. I started hair school after high school, and learned how to take care and manage my curls. Everything you are saying about curly hair is spot on. I specialize in educating and helping my clients with their curly hair, and also bi racial children with their curly hair. I love how you tell people to embrace who they are. I am so amazed to see how you just did that. When you where explaining the the horizontal and vertical movement of the color I was like mmhmmm, then when you see the out come of all the layers and the blending and the technique and the knowledge of color, its just a beautiful work of art its so amazing!!!

Omg you’re like the first stylist I’ve seen that just explains curly hair so perfectly the colored “V”at the crown so that she can part her hair and still see the highlights is just genius and just really shows that you pay attention to curly hair. My heart is happy to hear it! I avoid salons because I feel so self conscious about professionals not wanting to deal with my big thick hair. I have enough hair for three heads lol so it’s makes me very uncomfortable hearing someone complain about how long it’s gonna take. Are you going to do any videos where you dye and/or bleach type 4 hair? or dreadlocks? And I mean dying bright bold colors like orange, red, purple, rainbow, etc. Not natural boring colors like brown and burgundy.
I love watching your videos, but a lot of your clients are white and have hair types 1 or 2. My hair is type 4c (the kinkiest and curliest hair comes). The way you would do type 1 and 2 hair, isn't the same as how you would do type 4 hair (or even type 3 hair- Nikky's hair looks to be about a type 3). I love and have always loved coloring and dying my hair. I am also currently transitioning from being a loose natural, to having dreadlocks.

Plus, he only tends to have a certain amount of clients at a time, so he probably has no clients with the hair types you want him to use, but I, too would love to see that, but it probably isn't possible at the time. 💜

Oh my... yes! it's so true! I have curls too and everybody was shaming me because of my natrally volume and for a very long time I thought Iwas ugly just because of my frizzy hair. Even thought I never straighted them, because it's was to much work.
Now I got used to it and I really love my curls. And this was the moment I realised, there are people outside, who love my curls too.

I used to be called Medusa growing up also because I wasn't allowed to straighten my hair (per mother) so it would often be frizzy and out of control. It took a while for me to embrace my natural curls, I hope to be able to visit Guy Tang one day so I can go a dark blonde. I wish more hairdressers know how to color curly hair.

I really wish more people knew how to deal with curly hair. I've had so many bad experiences with stylists messing up my hair that I haven't had a haircut in more than 10 years. Also, I have definitely never had lice, that's not a thing that happens to everyone as a kid.

O.M.G. this is confirmation for me. I had a not so great experience styling someone's short hair today and short hair is like your curly hair. You mentioned running toward your fear and short hair is DEFINITELY my fear because I've never really mastered it. Yesss! This is one of my favorite videos. It really helps to explain the dimensions of Curly hair and struggle in textures. Very rare to find this. Love love love these Curly Girls! I unfortunately like many have lost trust in so much die to not many knowing anything about curls & how they work or fall differently than other textures.

Sad how these woman were told their naturally curly hair as kids was not beautiful. I've never even heard of using actual irons to straighten hair! That sounds terribly damaging!
tj Tanner Ironing hair with irons was really popular in the early 70's way before the flat iron was invented and long, straight hair was popular! Crazy what women do for beauty!
Thank you so much for another curly/natural video! I've got really textured hair and love fashion colors, but I don't find a lot out there on a) coloring techniques tailored to textured hair, or b) ways to color it without frying it. Love seeing videos like this.

MsRosemassacre thank you. For some reason colorists are still giving black women that bleached out honey blonde look that was popular in 2002. I loved this finished product because he brought out so much definition but didn't lose any warmth. I'm hoping that sense every other comment is begging for a type 4 coloring we'll finally see what he does with that!
