      The most efficient way of running is to have one's arms straight and backwards while leaning forwards. Stole that from "Flexible Muscle-Based Locomotion for Bipedal Creatures" comment section. A great similar video, recommended.

    The part where it drags the one foot is an interesting choice. I would think that a factor the AI doesn't get here is sensation of the body. No one would choose to walk that way as a human because they would injure their foot. So if the AI had sensors for pain it might makes a different choice.

    • @FuKItM4n
      @FuKItM4n 7 ปีที่แล้ว +166

      It is prob designed so that it learns based on fastest time, and length traveled. If something works better, it starts using that as it's base. Then over trail and error, it gets the most effecent way. With that said, it will prob learn to more walk like us, the longer the simulation runs. We have had a hell of a lot longer to evolve the way we did. It will learn.

      @HossLUK 7 ปีที่แล้ว +69

      NowhereMan no, the arms are being used for balance and control, like a cat's tail while running. We don't need to do that because we are well balanced and have evolved running and using our arms in a much more efficient way. The computer doesn't have to worry about the model breaking or any bone structure or anything, so it looks like it has just created its own version of balancing the model while running.

      At the end of the day no matter how much progamming is inputed into AI, it will always lack consciousness.
      So if you see for example an AI robot with laser weapons. And they start shooting it at people, that is because of its programming codes or perhaps malfunction. But it can never have the ability to have a will. Or to create its own thoughts and enact them.

    The one time I could recall seeing a person move like this was during a group run where that individual was still hammered-drunk from the night prior; at formation he was given a choice between staying in the run or being punished. The punishment probably would have been less painful.
    Just like the AI, it was wonky, but he stayed in it. We are talking bow-legged, almost lunging style steps, but performed at running pace. The guys in the lead deliberately sandbagged our speed just to make sure he wouldn't fall out and be nailed for it. He made it without having to be carried somehow, but oh my God it hurt just to watch.
    The flailing is interesting; we've had millions of years through successive iterations of species in our development as tetrapods in water into bipedal locomotion on firm surfaces. I wonder how many "generations" of that specific AI it took to get to their stage (these sims hit millions of cycles sometimes?). We use our limbs instinctively to mass balance and make locomotion easier; maybe the AI is developing the next Olympic level (like that one dude who decided to pole vault backwards) switch of technique to perform a given task more efficiently (within a given parameter... like indestructable ankles lol).
    There's obstacle courses I've run, for example, where I felt more comfortable at an oblique angle, for example, to surmount some of the challenges in front of me. Likewise, I'd be so gassed at phases of them, that I'd use other parts of my body like elbows, knees, shoulders, hips, and yep, even my butt, to shimmy, clamber, or roll over some of the problems.

      I guess we could learn new running tricks from it by providing it human limitations and speeds greater than Ussain Bolts top speed as targets.

    This AI knows what it's doing. I intend to use this exact walking method in place of my current wrong one.

  • @how-to-use

    There are two ways to look at this
    1. Here is an algorithm which learned to walk and jump by itself without any portrayal so that they could figure out functioning mechanisms.
    2. On the other hand, it could tell us about the structure of the world which makes it quite apparent even for an algorithm (programmed to have the same functions that a human body structure does) that it has to walk and jump. But there is one thing to take into account in all of this, it was given a goal of moving forward which matters fundamentally.

    Ok I know I'm anthropomorphizing, but Humanoid [about 0:53--0:58], in this particular movement, seems to be expressing sheer, unadulterated joy (in every beautiful flail). I'm glad I got to see this. It makes me happy. :-)
