  • Well, I made it back to the friendliest neighborhood in Tennessee (not really😀) to finish burning the brush pile. But I had to shut down and pull off the job AGAIN. Come along as we figure out what to do next…

Even in Alaska folks will complain about the smoke. They will call Fire Department with exagerated claims about flame length and concerns that it is too windy. We rarely burn and used to haul everything back to the gravel pits. They would haul a load of gravel in and a load of stumps and brush out. In the last few years, we started haveing everything mulched. The company that does this for us is usually done in about 4 hours and the trees are all converted to chips and stumps are reduced in size and easier to haul. A lot fewer loads back to the pit which reduces pit dump fees. It has been a win win for us. Working with trees is hazardous on equipment and this reduced that significantly.

I sell building material. And have for 47 years. Developments are for sure the worst. I get cussed out when we leave muddy tracks on the pavement. Never fails. Got a call 3 weeks ago that our moffit truck broke the guys concrete drive when we delivered things. We were not there that day. Concrete truck did it. But i took the cussing. Feel your pain my friend. Thanks for the ride.

I’ve done jobs like that before with just a track loader and burned the stuff green. As you said 30 days wouldn’t make much difference. I like to let it lay 6 months minimum but you usually can’t do that in a subdivision so just have to bite the bullet and call the dumpster company.

Only way you could possibly make that work is burning a smaller pile a bucket full at a time, which would probably take you a week and lots of babysitting the fire and putting a bucket full on every 15 min or so. Might could use a large shop fan on a generator to keep the smoke going in a good direction on a smaller pile, But the time it would take to do all that probably would be cheaper to haul it off.

The largest would be below 5 tons, depending on the setup. Maximum under CDL is 26,000 pounds total for the lower of actual combined weight or gross weight. May also have some other restrictions on max trailer weight. And also extra state restrictions. It can get a little complicated...if the highway safety wants to give a ticket, they have many ways to catch someone in a violation. Best to avoid them.
