  • In this video, we will talk about some of the pros and cons of living in Athens Georgia. Athens is a great city with a vibrant atmosphere and lots of opportunities. But like every place it has its own unique pros and cons. From the cost of living and retirement prospects to the affordable entertainment and music scene, I'll cover it all. So, if you're curious about what it would be like to live in Athens Georgia, this video will help you decide!
    An important consideration when deciding to move somewhere is the cost of living. In Athens, it's relatively affordable. According to the 2019 US Census, the cost of living index in Athens is lower than the US average. That said, some factors like housing and transportation costs are higher than the state's average, but overall, it's a good place to live if you're on a budget.
    One of the main concerns of retirees is finding a place to settle down and enjoy some peace. Athens is great for retirees, as the cost of living is low and the climate is temperate. Plus, it has plenty of medical facilities and a number of senior-friendly activities. The city also offers a variety of retirement communities and other housing options, making it an ideal spot for unwinding and taking it easy.
    Athens might be affordable, but that doesn't mean there isn't plenty of fun to be had. From delicious food to the great outdoors and nightlife, the city has it all. Whether it's farmers markets and community events, live music and art galleries, shopping and dining, or just a leisurely stroll through one of the city's many parks, there are plenty of affordable ways to get out and enjoy the city.
    Athens is known for its lively music scene. From its roots in punk, indie, and country to its more modern influences like hip-hop, EDM, and trap, the city has something for everyone. Athens is home to numerous music festivals, like AthFest and Flicker, and it also hosts some of the best bands in the country. So, if you're looking for an exciting music destination, Athens is the place to be!
    The food in Athens is incredible, especially for being such a small town. The downtown square area is filled with a variety of restaurants, from vegan spots to classic Southern cooking. Whether you’re looking for a sit-down restaurant or something quick and easy, there are lots of options. It’s hard to find anything like Athens' food anywhere else!
    The biggest cons of Athens is the game day traffic. With thousands of people flocking to Athens to see the game, the roads become very congested and parking is at a premium. You'll want to plan ahead and leave early if you don't want to be stuck in traffic.
    In addition, game day crowds are usually large and overwhelming. With thousands of people visiting the city, the streets and businesses can become congested, making it difficult and time-consuming to get around. Plus, parking can sometimes become scarce, as available spaces quickly get taken up by those coming out to cheer on their teams.
    Of course, living in Athens means dealing with the ever dreaded pollen season. If you’re one of those unlucky individuals with seasonal allergies, then Athens may not be the ideal place to live. During pollen season, the air can be thick and heavy with pollen, leaving some feeling stuffed up or sneezing a lot.
    In addition, the cost of rent in Athens is on the rise. Whether you’re a student, young professional or an empty nester, you might be finding it tougher to afford the rising rent costs in this city.

      Come by Fort Yargo on the second Saturday of the month. Fort Yargo Living History Society opens the fort and hangs out in 18th century garb. We do demos a lot of second Saturdays too like blacksmithing, bread making, handcrafts, and music.

    Me and the wife might be moving down there what’s the traffic like

    • @livingnearathensga
      @livingnearathensga  ปีที่แล้ว

      The best kind of traffic! Mostly non-existent! There literrally a couple of intersections that can get busy, and a few weekends a year with football games but they are all avoidable.
