Hell yeah another episode! I'm really glad that you're posting regularly again since tbh your playthroughs are the only ones I can watch without being disappointed from bad ship builds and/or gameplay. And as if that wasn't enough, I absolutely love your commentary style too. Certainly helps that we're both from the same generation lol
1:30:46 I think the Motes and ghosts will be the endgame. Omega put a lot of effort to stop the gates from being open, and (haven’t checked the dialogue for .97) your captain swears they hear singing when reopening the gates.
Using the premiere feature seems to have helped with visibility, tho it might be so, because I've literally watched ~6h of your content lately. Anyhow, it's very nice to know when the episode will drop, keep the good work up!
I really love the Luddic shrine events - I’m not a religious person, but I feel like Starsector writes religion in a very good faithed manner, and it’s really appreciated! Thanks for the content
"Buying the Sunder along with the Omens and Fury" Unless you pilot it yourself, i dont think the bugs are gonna stop and the Sunder will keep forgetting to do its job, which is why you lost that fight in the first place. Whole minutes without firing its Tachion, and you are still considering buying Sunder again when you fired an officer for even LESS of a fuck up.
Tachyon Sunders are truly wonderful ships. They fire their beam and then swing wildly to the side to face something off in the distance while the beam is still firing, wasting 90% of that weapons damage. Even better when they do it and strafe the rear of one of your frigates. High energy focus is also wasted as they spam it when the weapon isn't firing or miss the timings when it does. When they work properly, they're fantastic by popping overloaded/unshielded frigates and instantly stripping armor off of destroyers. A nice long range support ship and frigate popper, but it's wasted on the AI being a retard with it. Autopulses and High Intensity Lasers are the only weapons the AI can handle using. If you want a similar destroyer that isn't made out of glass you use Hammerheads.
@@jergensherbit756 It became pretty useless for me since you can't build in SO in it. I think at least some ships need it SO to be allowed to build in.
@@balanoidik As far as Sunders go I think they're just fine without SO, for how I use them anyway; I don't need them to kill fast, just be cheap beam boats shooting through gaps in a cruiser line. In this regard they're fairly reliable facing off against low tech. For how cheap they are I just slap on a HIL and a pair of gravitons, then build it around supporting those lasers. If it dies it dies, at least it'll have done its job at suppressing shields and stripping armor.
@@jergensherbit756 Anything is going to be better than Sunders. It's like AI has a special script to push in on them, or they're just that bad. All it's good for is to kill survey fleets, and it can't even do that with mods because they're going to have shields.
Its a good thing you mentioned the Solar Shielding and luring enemy ships to coronas and black holes, cause the patch notes more or less said the AI is less likely to follow you there now. Alex, why you gotta nerf fun like that? Sure, it doesnt require much investment, but neither is soloing star fortresses with phase ships, or just doing bounties where you assasinate the leader and run away instead of dealing with the whole enemy fleet.
Watching this video after just overextending into the end of the map and having to scuttle half my fleet plus Getting attacked on the way back twice and going from 10 combat ships to 2 lol
I think the tachyon Sunder griefing you in the last episode and not firing might be caused by AI pilots being very conservative using burst-fire weapons near friendlies. Since they can't stop firing it at will, they really don't want to "thread the needle" and try to fire anywhere near allies because who knows if a friendly forward shield frigate randomly drifts in front and gets smoked by the lance? Funnily enough, I tried some "AI tweak" modification that relaxed friendly fire restrictions and one of my Omens got immediately fried by flying in front of a Paragon firing the lances.
That's a very relatable AI. I can't count the number of times I've been firing and in a advantageous position. Only for a friendly (suspected traitor) destroyer to actively fly in front of me, covering the enemy, losing me kill opportunities while often getting itself killed. I was fed up and made an example of one once by firing a torp up its rear. Can't confirm it worked but it does appear to happen less now.
oh boy another 2hr video from colossal cranium vibes🍿 edit: i honestly did not know the planetkiller was a vanilla item until i saw it in your playthough lmao because ive never gotten it myself edit 2: the problem with missile autoloader is that expanded missile racks tends to give you the same amount of missiles for the same cost and a lower cooldown. maybe they buffed it? idk i basically never use it because it's straightup outclassed by expanded missile racks
I will say, on some modded ships autoloader is quite nice Vanilla wise, I tend to agree, I think its ok on the eagle/falcon because of the sizeclass/mounts disparity, but I also think just throwing salamanders on those ships works fine if you want missile support for the whole game on autofire
Missile Autoloader is really good on ships that only have a couple for finishing enemies. The Eagle for example gets 15 reload points which is enough for a lot of Atropos' or Harpoons. And the cooldown doesn't matter as much because you're using them as finishers.
You’re the reason I believe in high tech supremacy. I’m running a wolf pack right now with 3 hyperions, 2 Medusas, 2 afflictors, 2 scarabs, 2 omens and it rips into larger fleets.
20:17 they did not, in fact, have antimatter blasters. The pirates in the black market had antimatter blasters. (yes the black market is technically a pirate market because you can get rep bonuses for selling a bunch of shit at once)
I didn't even notice that, but you're right! My mouse must've doubled clicked before the interface could update and I got to hit the button twice. That's hilarious.

Following your example from this playthrough, I also started to use omens, and for the first time, I actually find frigates useful outside of the rushcap for more DP roles.
"Fury's are not difficult to find" my brother in Christ I cannot begin to describe the frustration I had looking for one in my current campaign. It took literal in game years of looking constantly, Bad luck I guess. Still loving the series!
I think there might be some global rng availability going on in the background, where some items/ships are deemed "ultra rare/common" or something. I feel that sometimes you won't see the shadow of a thing in all the sector, no matter where you look. And other times, you'll find tons of something else.
Great stuff as always! I missed the premiere because I wasn't caught up yet, but I wouldn't have minded being there for the live chat. I actually remember this from a long time ago: "Sill-luh" is the typical English pronunciation of Scylla, but the original would be more like "Sky-luh." A lot of ancient Greek names are like that, like Cerberus is usually pronounced with a soft C in English, but in ancient Greek it would have been a hard C. I think the main lesson is nobody really cares as long as they know what you mean. 😅
Yes, we know we gonna use the Hypershunts to open the gates, as implied by the Prevost herself, but even if we open them and something stupid comes out of them...we can just shut them down from our side IF we are supposed to be the ONLY ones providing power. Whats stopping us from just going to our colony with the Tap Item and remove it manually? its not gonna take that long. If alex is any wiser he would create a new plot ship that keeps the gates open as long it is close to it so we cant cheese it like that and HAVE to engage in combat, and i am sure we gonna take long enough for more ships from whatever faction comes out the gate and actually manage to colonize one of the random ass systems that have a gate randomly generated already. If they actually ARE Omega then this will be a nice time for our Alpha Cores in our colonies to rebel and transform OUR colonies into REDACTED colonies or whatever, once again showing the horrors of unregulated AI. Plot and lorewise it makes sense, so i am going to assume first day its gonna be released that way and THEN patched over the following week, cause everyone is gonna complan their colonies they spent so much time and effort got hijacked. And because we cant have nice things, Alex is gonna change it just randomly conquer several systems with gates outside the core worlds, cause i get the feeling Alex is doing alot of babysitting after the not allowing us to saturate planets that are plot relevant.
I usually run a full 30 ship fleet almost as soon as I can, switching between more expensive capitals and carriers and a wolfpack/exploration fleet, piloting two Hyperion frigates so I can fight back to back engagements. How do you pare back your fleet composition so much?
The separate series you could do is running with the terrorist factions and run a invasion campaign against the core world, might be a little hard to get cash though.
I’m gonna be honest not sure why you’re premiering this one I’m sure this won’t be one of the greatest films to come out this year could have definitely done a quiet release alls I’m saying
