The mods above are currently not "up to date" so you have to change the version to 0.97 in the "mod info" to make them work.

thumbnail is straight to the point i see
Making thumbnails in photoshop is honestly kinda fun. I'll be experimenting with different ideas to see what works.
@@bigbrainenergyguy please one time just one time please make it a comically complex corporate flowchart of ships and arrows
I'll see what I can do ;)
Totally head canon but, the food trade thing could be a matter of profitability. For example, lots of high food producing countries export so much food that they sometimes end up with local food shortages because selling the food locally would end up with a profit loss. Maybe it's cheaper for your barren colony to import food because your food planet is selling to markets with massive food shortages and they aren't willing to sell at a lower price locally even though they have an excess.
My headcanon is that shipments also take a long time to organize and are planned weeks or even months in advance and are inflexible by nature, so any disruption to those plans takes a long time to sort itself out without a really flexible agent like the player intervening.
1000 salutes to 1000 souls who died "bravely" for a "good cause". o7
If you're going to visit Hybrasil often, it would make sense to install one of those fancy wormhole thingies in a stable location in the system. Best use I've found for them so far, since Hybrasil doesn't have a gate.
Gate Hauler?
you seriously have some crazy insight into different strategies and how to best take advantage of certain skills and officers and general fleet strategies. you must have been playing this game forever! also i love that goofy ass captains log that would be a great running joke
53:39 Interestingly enough, there's the "Advanced Gunnery Control" mod that implements what you're saying to a lesser degree. I don't think it changes actual ship ai behaviour, but having more control over how your fleet operates is always a positive. Hopefully something similar will be added into the base game.
I really like midline fleets. It's kinda OP when you put elite field mod officers into monitors then have support doctrined conquests behind them. Just a big wall of practically invincible shields and flak with gauss cannons flying between them and enough missiles to block out the stars.
I once looked up the reason why bounties were always so messed up in Vanilla. It has an algorithm and it also goes roughly on your fleet size, so once you pass a certain power level the game will continuously setup personal and randomly generated bounties to meet or GREATLY exceed your current fleet power. The problem with this is that unless you accept and then immediately abandon bounties or finish all of them as they appear . . . things can go on cooldown for months "in game" which can take a long time to cycle through. RNG can be brutal
If only the spysat stuff could lead to more missions or something. You would think that spying on your enemies would lead to something cool but nope.
Contacts and the unique missions they offer have a lot of potential, but they don't seem fully fleshed out.
51:42 Interesting talk about ship AI.
As someone who wrote some AI algorithms (nothing comparable to something capable of driving a ship), it is really complicated to tweak it and also control the consequences of changing a parameter.
It would be interesting to see how it currently works and be able to play with it. I wish I could have time to have a hobby like this one. It would suck too many time and attention. I can't do it.
The different AI behavior hullmod thing sounds like Stellaris combat computers. They have 4-6 different varieties all with different ranges and behaviors. Then there's war doctrines
Do a pure beam disco fleet I dare you
(Without high scatter amplifier)
I actually have one going right now. I kyte them with monitors, then pilot an Odyssey with 2 harbinger escorts packing all in packing 2 tacion lances 6 phase lances and 2 system disrupters. It cuts through all but heavy armor with ease. The main problem is breaking the enemy formation, I kinda suck fighting the hedgamoney.
i do this occasionally, it sucks but im having fun :)
@@digitalizedmind6784 lol yeah, it's bad but so fun
4 months late, but I've had both of those bounties offered to me by Arroyo and Chicomoztoc's station Commander (I forgot his name, potential high/very high rank contact through bar contract) while at less than 50 trust. As far as I am aware, those are the only 2 times you get Omega bounties.
Could this be the lewdest episode yet? Watch and find out!
Careful. He might get banned from USC.
If you use stop gap measures in your mod pack and you're going for midline might I recommend pirate Velites with safety overrides and built in frontal world shield. One of my favorite little frigates to run, as they have a decent number of small weapon slots that help them harass out ships really well :)
Also the main reason I put safety overrides on them is they're very average compared to a lot of frigates even for midline. I also don't use overrides that often in my fleets but have been running it much much more often on my frigates as of late.
Actually your idea is what the weapon "Primary Role" is supposed to help the AI become what you want, right? if Reaper Torpedos had he "Finisher" designation, wouldnt that prevent them from being spammed before the enemy is even near overloading?
Sorry if you mention this later in the video, I'm only half an hour in, but I figure you've already done the upgrade from java 7 to 8 on your current install? The performance improvements just between those two versions is already pretty nuts. I wonder how much better java 17 will make it.
I didn't know there was a remnant crisis but now i'm curious
Yeah actually vanilla, the remnants will host raids on systems. So I'd imagine they can do the same to players through crisis
@@TTHJJD100that's not vanilla that's Nexerelin
No shit we gonna be lost in the simulator. What choice do we have to fight the Unique Contact with the DORITO fleet if you only get one? of course you have to fight at least ONE to unlock it, but still
Have you ever thought of running mikohime's JRE 23 version? It really allows me to have a massive sector, loads of mods and factions and get good speeds
Yeah, i double that proposal. And if Mikohime's is too experimental - JRE 8 also does wonders to performance if there are a lot of mods
50:54 yes, that. I managed to somehow setup Tamarisk class Cruiser from KoL mod such that it won't fire it's 4 missile slots ever.
Turned out HV Drivers and an MkIX Autocannon outrange missiles so it won't ever get close enough to fire'em, AI being kinda stingy with launching their fish from max range to begin with.
Yeah, you want more or less what i want, which is more control over the AI of your fleet directly.
I suggested the Final Fantasy 12 approach, you want it as a "slap a set of prebaked AI protocols to follow like they are hullmods" way.
Honestly it would be neat if they were skills on the tree. One allows for fine tunning your AI, and the other solution I also mentioned is just have Brainwashing or Overriding their EGO and flat out control the ships like they are Starcraft RTS units.
They dont move or do anything (except just opening their shield and shoot whoever is close but never chasing past range) unless told and will obey regardless if they will get killed or not.
But we are running out of space on the skill tree, so why not do what you said which is having the Military Base and further upgrades allow you to better give prebaked AI protocols to follow, while the brainwashing thing just slap it as an item you can only get in exploration or tech mining.
The item in question needs to be on your inventory to be activated and I dont know if we could slap a side quest in order to activate it the first time and also be chased by people who REALLY would love some brain washed.
this is definitely not the thumbnail or title i saw premiering before i went to work today. or maybe before i went to bed yesterday? i can't remember. maybe it was and i just hallucinated earlier.
You are not hallucinating. I did, in fact, change it.
@@bigbrainenergyguy no i probably just hallucinated it. just like i hallucinated a comment i read at the time that's still here now, or like how i'm hallucinating your comment too.
yippee midline playthrough
34:29 his comment about dieing and being suboptimal got me thinking about ships. sometimes in space games we come across ships that are just pure dog shit and i thinking i understand why those ships exist.....
what if those ships just exist so we can smash them and get the Joy" from killing them.. i find way more joy smashing a fleet in any game where every ship in every ship is a dangerous killer. and not just any killer a killers killers. so every battle is a true battle. i hate fighting easy battles against the enemy.
I highly suggest Xhan, it is pretty balanced in my opinion
