Yeah! Some memorable phrases there ... Miles Davis as 'the walking middle finger of jazz.' LOL! Yep. Dead on. Ironic though ... the first time I heard Robert Glasper was him playing 'Mood' on TH-cam, and I thought of that song as the most gorgeous woman in the world sending a chill down my spine - and then hearing the philosophy of 'fuck it' that made it possible, really cracks me up. Great interview!
It's funny how I never saw this video til today, but I have the same exact thought process as these guys and as I'm listening to this interview, I'm just blown away. Smh I have to meet these dudes and make some music with them.
"That's bad for life." Terrace. smh I have watched this multiple times every day since I found this video. "We don't even have the privilege to be in lil punk ass box. We just trying to heal souls, man." How does one fall in love with an interview??? These two. smh amazing!
I think the trust more so comes from the selflessness, but I think the selflessness is influenced by the trust in one another’s talents. Like because you all respect each other’s abilities you trust one another’s taste better than if you were working with amateurs who can’t really contribute the same, but want the same recognition
Much love and respect to these cats for really having studied the euphemism game: "Being of the times": Get money "Warming hearts": Get pussy.....Terrace just shit all over "His good friend" by devaluing the guys art because he accepted the support of his family. I just finished Miles's autobiography, Miles's dad was sending him money every week when he was young in NYC. I love Miles, but as evidenced by his music, and by every word in his book, he made artistic choices specifically on the basis of being commercially appealing to brands and major labels (Someday My Prince Will Come??). I don't have a problem with that, but it's not exactly a walking middle finger. You might want to give that title to people like Barry Harris, Sonny Stitt, Art Blakey, George Coleman, or any of the majority of jazz artists who could have chosen to *follow trends in pop culture* but were defiant in defense of their artistic principles and played the same style older style for 5 decades. That's called really believing in your shit and saying 'fuck it'.
I love this: compare these dudes playing with Herbie to The Roots (who I F-in love) attempting to play "Actual Proof" with Herbie on the Jimmy Fallon show. I don't think Questlove was pleased with performance...its no longer available. Herbie is the Don Dada!!!
That logic shit is why I unsubscribed, this is the dopest interview they have released in years. And when I did that they decided to release a fire interview.
like how they both recalled the same jazz piece note for note in sync. Really shows how much they're students of the game.

I’d do anything to be kicking it in a room with these two geniuses, they compliment each other so well! 🙏🏼💪🏼
''We're not trying to play the instrument, we're trying to play music'' 4:45 -Awesome statement!!!
This is the best thing I've seen on TH-cam in a while.
