  • The Audi S3 8P was in desperate need of rear discs and pads but it soon turned into a full restoration and all new rear brake parts being fitted. Parts include: discs, pads, callipers, pad carriers, brake hoses, brake pipes and brake guards along with all the bolts.
    Really happy with the end result and hopefully I will not be having an issues with the rear brakes for a while now.

    That wheel bolt that holds the wheel bearing to the wheel hub should have a cover on it. The cover seals it from the elements. There’s a fair chance the bearing will go if it’s not done already. Stretch bolts stretch and therefore can only be used once. By stretching they ‘lock’ in place and will not come loose from vibrations. No locktite required.

    I love seeing a great brake job.
    Just want to leave a tip for anybody that will do this in the future. When doing rear brakes the carrier doesn't need to be removed as the disc will slide past it.
    And for the OP, if you look closely you had the dust shield for the other side. So if you bought the pair you just needed to get the other dust shield.
    But as i said. This was a job very well done. ✌✌

      The carrier has to be removed on the Audi S3 unfortunately. All other models the disc will slide past the carrier but not on this one 👍

      Just a FYI for anyone else that sees this comment, this also applies to the 3.2 VR6 quattro model too, which I've recently learnt the hard way lol

      this also applies to the A3 8p as I found out the hard way this weekend. I fought for hours to get the bottom one off with PB and a hell of a lot of torque, only to see the other top one after thinking it was sorted. I didn't have this shallow head spline and theres absolutely 0 clearance to get in with anything else.

    Informative and in depth as always..:)
    They use stretch bolts I think on cylinder heads too...
    I think when you torque them up ..they remain torqued and dont easily come loose...epecialy when they hot or cold.. the bolt actually twists and stays that way to achieve this..
    But once they have been used there is a danger if you use them again..torqued up they can break...
    New stretch bolts also dont rely on loctite...
    Lots on google ..woogle about them.. :)

    Good job mate, I got my dad to do the rear brakes on my S3 and those carrier bolts gave him hell, it's the fact you have got no space and have to have the right size tool to fit the gap, it made a hell of a crack sound when he did get them undone🤣

    Danny, it is a pointless excercise to spray releasing fluid onto to the head of a seized bolt, you need to spray it onto the the actual thread. I always spray the fluid on 24 hours before I start stripping components that are likely to be seized and/or very tight.

    • @projectfearn
      @projectfearn  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sometimes you can't get to the threads so spraying the head and around it let's the fluid hopefully penetrate down and work its magic 😎

    • @geofftownley3137
      @geofftownley3137 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@projectfearn That's true, but it's rare that you can't get to the end of the bolts. I don't find WD40 to be the most effective penetrating fluid, I've been using Kano Aerokroil.

    • @projectfearn
      @projectfearn  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had a few tins of wd40 super penetrative and it was amazing. Also the ice spray too has been unreal

    Is there a way to replace the brake disc without removing the caliper bracket? I've got new discs laying around, but only want to remove the caliper bracket if absolutely necessary, given how much of a pain in the ass they are.

    • @projectfearn
      @projectfearn  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not on the S3 pal. On the other models the disc can be removed without removing that carrier bracket but unfortunately not on the s3. They are going to have to come off sooner or later pal and once I figured it out it all went well 👍
