    Abyssalite (for pipes and tiles) has since been removed in the latest space industry update. The next best insulator early game is an insulated tile made out of igneous rock. If you don't have any yet you can use sandstone or granite but those aren't as good. Later on you get ceramic which is better and late game you get a perfect insulator like the old abyssalite but it requires ingredients from other asteroids (ie rocket trips).

    • @GrindThisGame
      @GrindThisGame  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Probably not but it will add some stress. As long as morale is somewhat high you should be ok.

    • @TheTruePhoenixAU
      @TheTruePhoenixAU 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yeah I made the mistake of using older guides like this (although they are still great) and only found out around cycle 150 that I'm never going to get to use Abyssalite for insulation. Heat has been a major problem for me but I've now got a design happening although it nearly cost all my dubs more than they could give. I had to build a system of insulated pipes from a geyser into an ice biome, via an anti entropy thermo nullifier using radiating pipes limited to 2000mL then through more of the ice biome before finally arriving home at a nice 5-20 degrees depending on how angry the geyser was feeling.
      Also, with the bathrooms build your waste pipes out to the side, it's less pieces of pipe and hence less decor issues.

    • @BAVy11037
      @BAVy11037 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Usually, it has something to do with insulation or overheating. For example, if you want to cool your base by building a few pipes and running cool water through them, you will need to make them out of a material with high thermal conductivity. Or if you're building pump in a place that can heat up to like 300 degrees, you'll need to make it out of something that can withstand this temperature

    your tutorial line went from the basic stuff to the advanced stuff. I'm missing a lot of steps in between. Like tips&tricks for ranching, other food production, etc.
    I'm also wondering about the 'clean water' with the germs. The duplicants use it to clean their hands. Won't that affect their immune systems?

    • @GrindThisGame
      @GrindThisGame  6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I tried to keep things basic but I do have these guides planned for the future:
      - ranching
      - morale
      - germs
      - food guide
      - oil/plastic
      Germy water can be used in sinks and it doesn't make the dupes dirty. It makes no sense but has worked for a very long time. Might get fixed someday. Now that it is easier to kill germs in water they might fix it.

    Thank you so much man!
    I'm sure you've gone over it before, but I would love to see you go over the ranching in this game, and maybe a small guide or section of this series dedicated to getting components for the generators (mainly coal). One thing I keep running into a bottleneck for early game is power. Getting coal can be a pain, and the only way I see doing it long term (generally speaking) is via ranching.
    Again, thanks for these awesome videos :) Will keep on watching while I'm playing this game for my first few days worth haha

    • @GrindThisGame
      @GrindThisGame  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're welcome Robbie. I'll do a ranching guide for sure. It was on my list. There is a LOT of coal out on the map but hatch ranches are they way to go for renewable coal. Vertical ranchers are better since the tending to hatches goes faster. Natural gas power is pretty good and you'll eventually find 1 or more natural gas geysers. If used with smart batteries and some automation on consumers your power will go a long way. If you don't mind spoilers there are other ways to get power (Below)
      Ways to get power:
      - coal generators (hatches will eat materials to make more coal, you can set them up in a ranch)
      - natural gas generators (later you'll find 1 or more natural gas geysers)
      - petroleum generator (there is a LOT of oil at the bottom of the map which can be turned into petroleum...or more complexly into natural gas)
      - solar power (not very good but shine bugs can be the light for some solar power)
      - steam power (not easy to set up)
      - hydrogen becomes renewable from steam geysers where you turn the water into oxygen and hydrogen
      - manual generators :)

    Instead of a liquid lock, how about, like, a sideways S-shaped hallway that uses the weight of the gasses to keep themselves in place? So, the dupes can climb up and down through it, but the oxygen gets tile-blocked up top and the chlorine gets tile-blocked below it. Can you picture what I mean?

They completely 2000% separate pressure and any gasses on each side of the door. Some may think it's kind of cheaty using it but it's called an airlock after all . :)

    thing missing here is that if you mess too much with your infinite bathroom, that plumbing can get stuck. And of course abyssalite is not as easy to get anymore, unless you want to stress your dupes out collecting it.

    You put a little trap for beginners there :)
    Every toilet produce 5,7kg of excess water in "infinite toilet loop" and one Blossom consumes 20kg of water per cycle, so 3 toilet's will feed only one plant per cycle.
    There is also another good way to use cleaned water with germs - Refinery, it will warm the water to the temperature when germs start dying really fast and also allow you to not use "Clean cold water" from main water storage.

    • @AndyPue
      @AndyPue 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I remember correctly, it is a bad idea to use germy water for the wash basins. They should always be fed with fresh water, right?
      (Using the excess water for food is always fine, just have to be extremely careful when deconstructing filled pipes, as the water may spread germs when spilled on the floor.)

    • @mustakragen6103
      @mustakragen6103 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's 100% fine, I use self-sustaining bathrooms\wash basins since "Jobs" upgrade and they working fine. If you have Plummber specialization you can "empty" them without spilling any drops of water.

    • @JamesBucket

      @mustakragen6103 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JamesBucket since 39.9 is still less than 40 you will halt plant growth a little, my solution is find one seed of Thimble Reed(can be found is swamp biome) and send all excess polluted water there without clearing. Hey GtG, quick question. So I'm not using the auto-build function, and I'm having difficulties getting my dupes to man up and hold their breath. Their sanity skyrockets to 50%< so I have to give them a day off for massages every other cycle to de-stress. I had one duplicant die in the CO2 pit while trying to dig air pockets. Any advice on how to get their keisters in gear?

    • @GrindThisGame
      @GrindThisGame  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The early game way is to supply oxygen to your dig tunnels an algae deoxidizer + maybe coal or dupe power in a small sealed room so they can catch their breath while away from the base. Longer term atmosuits/exosuits are the way to go. The dupes walk very slowly in them unless they have training. You'll need refined copper and thimblereeds to build them I think. In episode 6 of this guide I show how to set them up.

    • @GrindThisGame
      @GrindThisGame  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As for sanity, you can build some paintings or statues along the way to help keep the decor up while they travel. Later on you can make snazzy suits which can help as well.

      Are you trying to do the infinite loop thing with a sieve? Take a bit of water out as it might be blocked or add a liquid tank that doesn't completely fill up. Also it won't work as fast if it has low carbon dioxide.

    Damn this is good stuff, thanks man. One question, is there any way to create some sort of pressurized path, to prevent leak of gases 100% (like the liquid one) but without the liquid? to avoid the negatives of this lock, maybe a more advanced tec?, or using the liquid lock is the only 100% safe method to prevent ur green gas to escape. Thanks !

    • @GrindThisGame
      @GrindThisGame  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's the only 100% safe airlock I've seen. You can create a room between two airlocks which sucks out all the air between uses and filters the correct gasses where they should go. Much more energy intensive and might still have a risk but I've never actually built one. If you dig in from the top of something like a chlorine room and you have high pressure oxygen above it, there is little chance the chlorine will rise out.

      You can put it in a liquid reservoir that is in a room with chlorine gas. All the germs will die. At least it worked with gas... otherwise if you let clean water with germs sit...the germs will die off...takes time though. I usually use germ water for plants.

    Thought of something, that might be cool to add to the game.
    Mutations? Endgame stuff.
    A new gas, highly dangerous and volatile.
    But if its refined/worked it can be used into higher science to alter genetics. Like pills for extra bonuses. But it always comes with a negative.
    Mutations could work aswell if small doses worked into the breathed air and breathed throughout many cýcles.
    using all this would put high distress on your dupes. But if you can manage it'll be very worth it.

    Hello, your tutorials have been extremely helpful thus far. On my main world I tried to make a giant water resevoir with a liquid tepidzer in it so I can use it for practically any water purpose and I failed, and I managed to lose my food supply and died. Do you have any tips on getting all the water together? I also wanted to ask you about a base design. I made it so that there is one ladder in the middle and 4 tile rooms on each side of the ladder and I was starting to think it wasnt really effective... Do you have any ideas? The farthest I have ever gotten was managing to get to a place with chlorine.

      A fairly recent base building series also goes into a lot of detail:
      th-cam.com/video/tj5d1VUnal4/w-d-xo.html
      But this one is my current one on a slightly harder world:
      th-cam.com/video/S1tabFfU4JM/w-d-xo.html
      I use liquid reservoirs to store water because they are naturally insulated a bit. You also make an insulated tank out of insulated tiles. My base floors are usually 4 high and 16 wide (for 64 tile bedrooms, bathrooms etc) and 4x24 for critter ranches. I usually put 1 ladder and 1 firepole between each 16 wide floor (see videos). Check out liquid locks before you break open chlorine pockets.

    Tried to do the infinite water lavatory thing earlier to get oxygen after algae ran out using electrolyzers. Plumbing broke, and flooded my oxygen generator room. It has already destroyed a generator and rendered a super-computer useless, and my upper levels flooded with hydrogen, almost all of my remaining oxygen has slime lung, and my carbon dioxide pits are full, so they have been airlocked off. I am still on turn 45, and 7 colonists have died already, so I just have a bunch of corpses lying around. Also, the food generator got flooded, so all the time is spent mopping and not producing food, which has caused several starvation-related deaths. Everyone's stress hit 100% despite all of the art, probably due to the corpses and piss. Anyone have any idea how to fix it?

      @GrindThisGame  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think I was using debug to build things quickly. If you destroy a floor the building on the floor will stay there but stop working. Any materials on the floor will fall down though. Sandbox mode is much easier to use for just messing about and building things quickly. Debug mode is a bit less user friendly. Buildings things is fairly quick just playing normally though. If you destroy buildings you get the materials back.

    Could an airlock be created, and be effective if air was used instead? For instance get carbon dioxide to rest in the hole?

    • @Sebastian-hg3xc
      @Sebastian-hg3xc 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's very difficult because high pressures from a different gas will like push away your carbon dioxide, opening up the airlock. If pressure gets too low the carbon dioxide will flow out of your airlock, opening it up as well. Liquids have the big advantage that they are not really moved by gasses.

    Great video but just so people know the infinite bathroom shown here no longer works. It appears that the germ level will build up in the water and slightly exceed the level that the sinks clean in one go but not enough that the dups think they need to use a second sink. So they start to wander around infecting the base,
    I ended up feeding the output of the sieve into a chamber filled with chlorine gas using three liquid storage devices in series with the output of that dumping into its own reservoir. Too paranoid to just dump it into the main one.
    I like the change because it doesn't make sense to wash your hands with germy water and get clean.
