    First of all your video saved my base. A suggestion as a newbie, audience I think you designed your video for, could you also please show wiring. Not so much how but a quick picture of the overlay so we would know what type of wiring you used. Of course any automation wires. Finally, I know what I have been searching for is a video that goes over the game pieces and their functions. I have not really found a newbie video on this. You might also do one on the different biomes, with an overview of what each is and what to look for in each biome. You have a very good teaching voice and explanation style. Just remember you are focusing those video on newbies so do not apologize for explaining everything. I say this as a college professor who focuses on teaching 1st years. They need and want all the details.

    • @Magnet_MD
      @Magnet_MD  4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Will do! With regards to the automation wiring, I do have another video that explains automation in greater detail (starting with the ultra basic and into the ultra advanced). It's not necessarily assumed knowledge, but this game is so broad that I need to expect players to have certain sections of knowledge, or be willing to seek it out when they need more details on something specific. Ultimately every system kinda interacts/depends on each other, and I need to focus deep-dives into certain subjects into their own video, otherwise everything tends to blend together.
      An overview of biomes/map generation is a good idea, definitely not something I had considered before!

    About the polluted water method. I just build some deodorizers over a pool of polluted water and bam! loads and loads of oxygen. No need to bottle them first. The greater the surface of the pool the faster oxygen is produced. By far the most efficient way I think. Make sure the deodorizers are directly over the pool using mesh tiles so no other gases accumulate over the pool. Because that will stifle the release of polluted oxygen.

    Oxyferns main downside is the lack of scalability, I feel. They work out such that you gain water to oxygen efficiency at the cost of dirt (~1 pip ranched per 4-5 oxyferns, iirc), and some power to automate maintenance. Not sure off-hand how the power loss compares to power gain via less power spent on managing carbon dioxide and cooling, though. It's pretty hard to get enough plants to cover more than a few dupes, but if you're planning on ranching pips anyway and won't miss a couple pips worth of dirt, it doesn't hurt to stretch the water you have a bit further. Particularly early-to-mid game when you're still hunting down your water sources.
    Admittedly, I mostly like them because I like the synergy between them and pips and the difference they make to early game in forsesty starts. I totally get why most folks prefer to just add more electrolyzers rather than bothering with them, though. :)

    • @Magnet_MD
      @Magnet_MD  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, they do scale really poorly. I wish that they produced just a little more, because as it is now, I'll tend to rely on them for probably like 10 cycles, and then never think about them again once I dig them up.
      I'm not sure about this, but I also think there's no way to routinely get more seeds. Some kind of run where you could only use oxyferns would be pretty fun, so maybe I'll have to do that some day (and just spawn a whole bunch of them at the beginning).

    Out of the choices described, I only recommend the Deodorizers with polluted water which is plenty enough. Maybe this is only way fill the world oxygen with ease. This drastically relieves “oxygen not included”. When I do exploring in chlorine, carbon dioxide biomes, bring oxylite or just a few tons of polluted water produced by Algae Terra. Alll these consumes very few power, OP

    This whole video I was confused as to why you don't just make a room full of oxygen diffusers and power them with a coal burner in the room next door. I made gas vents suck it throughout my whole base. It has worked wonderfully for the last 50 cycles but I realized just now by reading the wiki that it will eventually deprive my base of algae. The ratio of algae to oxygen is very low apparently.
    I have owned this game since it first launched on Steam but have only started playing again today. I created a new base and by the third cycle I realized how low our oxygen levels were when two of my three duplicants suffocated in their sleep. Determined, I won't give up until they're all dead lol
    Time to rewatch this whole video and weigh my options for the future!

      I'm a big fan of algae terrariums. don't sweep/move the polluted water they make, put deodorizers around them & you can periodically disable the terrariums and rely on polluted water off-gassing into polluted oxygen.
      obviously, some asteroids prevent terrarium usage or make it not worthwhile, but I usually lean on them for a few dozen cycles or more

    about the electrolyzer: I heard from a other way to build it up with only 1 pump
    it just need way more space and have problems with cooling
    you make a big square place at the bottom of your whole base, then you build in the middle a tube wo is 2 blocks width and it opens down to reach at the end of the plattform/ground, but not directly get to the bottom close on top of it, it's closed.
    then you build at the top a pump with a atmo sensor and down the amount of electrolyzer you want
    the atmosensor is high enough that the top area is always filled with hydrogen, the oxygen get produced and can go at the side away up to your base.
    So you only need 1 pump and can easily add up electrolyzer for it,
    problem is, you need quite some base, it needs to be at the bottom and heat may be a problem, or you make such radiant tubes who cool it down, when it moves up

    • @Magnet_MD
      @Magnet_MD  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Huh, that should be pretty interesting! I'll have to play around with it :D

    • @PyrokineticFire1
      @PyrokineticFire1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      the disadvantage is that you aren't forcing oxygen into the base at a high enough pressure to prevent off-gassing. depending on size, multiple such stations could be used so the air isn't too thin at the "far end" of the base.
      of course, that disadvantage can be managed, but it's nice using basic vents to keep a fairly consistent 2kg/tile (not quite enough to pop eardrums) it might be worth the cost of a pump

      @@JohnYoga yeah it's easy to screw yourself up longterm in the early game, if you don't like that it might not be the game for you tbh, not saying that in a "gitgud", it's just genuinely a big frustrating point of the game and you have to accept you'll probably need to restart games from mistakes you made dozens of days ago cause that happens a lot (I kinda gave up on the game because of that, the next big frustrating thing is heat management and it's much more complex than oxygen)

    I found out about the morb one when trying to pull a vacuum to kill one. There was soooo much slime lung in the air. I pulled a vaccum, pumped it into a room to clean it and let the germs die on their own, then broke a block of the (don't know the name of the ruined structures on the map). It sucked a vacuum, then started going again. This is when I realized they produced polluted oxygen, and I just left the pump to go when it got pressurized enough. I blocked off the slime so that slimelung wouldn't come back, and had a small bit of oxygen production. I thought about bringing in more, because I found another, set up the drop off point, and rapidly died of oxygen deprivation as my dupes set up the system for the machines that produce oxygen and hydrogen from water. I was making another 3, because 2 was not enough. I didn't realize I ran out of algae until I saw breathability go to 30%. That's why I'm here XD

      @@Magnet_MD I'll keep an eye out for that. I have a good hang of mass ranching hatches and making dreckos very productive. But I could use some new ideas for basically all the other critters,
      Anyway, this is my drecko ranch for cold early plastic. I can't automate it in any way that makes sense, but other than that I like it. If you're patient, maybe you can reproduce and critique it in your video, as well as show what you're doing. I'm just very bad at automation, so could def use some basic help.
      Pretty simple: I use a water lock and suits to prevent CO2 buildup, pump in H until it covers the lightbulbs to increase critter productivity and exposure to it, and regulate the temperature by changing the prio on the wheezewort. It's two tiles short of the max size limit for ranches when you build it like this. I can't figure out a sensible way to enlarge it by two tiles either. I should have studied engineering...

    The electrolyzer setup you have isn't as good as a half rodriguez, or the even better full rodriguez in terms of power consumed in comparison to how much potential power gets produced. You use up 720 watts with 3 gas pumps and produce 800 watts of power. There's only an 80 watt difference. For both a half rodriguez and full rodriguez those numbers are higher, implying more hydrogen produced for one of those setups.

    Nice video, but you haven't covered what must be the most unusuall and crazy way to produce oxygen ever. I call this invention the ceramic Crucible... or something like that Idk 😂. Anyway it workes by feeding regolith to shovvoles, then useing some of the meat to feed the dupes, while letting the rest go bad and turn into polluted oxygen. Then you turn that into oxygen using oxygendistillers and regolith. After that you heat the clay up to turn it into ceramic, which gives you a lot of oxygen, barbeque, and a very good building-material completely automatic and just by consuming a material, which is so plentifull that you never run out of it and it's probably more of a nuisance for most players.

    So just use electrolysers?

    • @Magnet_MD
      @Magnet_MD  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Martin, sorry about that.
      At cycle 50 if you're running out of algae, I'm guessing you are either printing too many duplicants (only stay around ~10 until you have renewable water + food up), or you're not digging for algae enough. Algae alone should last you up to about cycle 250 if you are digging and staying on a reasonable number of duplicants.
      After that, electrolyzers are what you want, but by that point you need a way to cool the oxygen and you need to tap several natural water sources so you don't run out.
