This holding value nonsense is going to ruin the watch market. Buy for love not for value. If you're concerned about resale value, surely you are buying the wrong watch in the first place.

JamesBardolphCS if you’re concerned about resale value you buy second hand a save 40-50%. It’s something to be aware of and it is important because many buyers may want to sell on in the future whether they intend to or not.

Adrian, It is an interesting piece of machinery. I have never liked skeleton watches, but this piece might warrant a look. I would want to see it in person and try it on, as a 44mm case is most likely going to be too large on my wrist. I do like the design cues Oris has used and the movement is definitely special. Great to see Oris being bold.

Great content! i really like Oris. im a fan of what they have been dong. This ProPilot X is a nice change of pace in the watch world and for them. I also admire the fact that Oris isnt really concerned with what other watch brands are doing or what the trends are. I am excited to see where they go in the coming years and what new pieces they have for us in the future.

Interesting and good video. I guess at the end of the day how much can you keep redesigning the wheel? Yes good looking but even a Casio mrg is smaller which I think in a funny way Oris have used as a cue? It always makes me itch when the retail price of anything consists of huge marketing budgets and hence becomes so high once an AD have also had their wedge? Count £ 6000.00 or so quid out in twenties and you know what £6000.00 looks like? Not that watch? Cheers.

I like the design.... I'm even ok with the oversized strap closure mechanism...
But.... for me, it needs greater accuracy, 200m plus waterproofing..and zero play in anything... end links or otherwise.
Are there any lumed markers ? I guess not, otherwise you'd have said...
So.....meh...it's nice...but it feels like the price reflects the features, rather than the benefits. Power reserve is ok, but when you pick the watch up after 10 days. It could be 1 minute + out, which is too much for the cost of the watch. Nice though....bit big...but nice.
I applaud Oris for testing new ground....

Alexander Vic I’ve got an Oris watch , I bought it pre owned at a much reduced price and I am impressed by the quality and robustness of the watch.
I own other brands and I am not in the market for a $7500 Oris I admit, but I’d stop short “some way short”, actually of ever describing the brand as garbage.
Bremont also gets it in the neck from you in your comments & whilst I will concede it’s not a brand I do or am ever likely to consider purchasing, I wouldn’t call it garbage either, if we’re going to have a handful of brands that are deemed acceptable & the fifty or so companies beneath them marked down as rubbish then watch appreciation & innovation of horology is doomed Alexander.
It’s not that I don’t think garbage exists, it’s that Oris aren’t that , it’s not escaped me that in life there are people who like to look down on others & take a shit on them if the perceive that their watch choices mark them out as the “lesser”, but it’s that mindset that really is garbage............not Oris.

I like Oris as a brand but not sure about this one at £5500.
I can see what they are trying to do. Following in a new era trend which is happening now "The Techno Skeleton watch" Audemars Piquet, Maurice Lacroix and now Oris.
It's just too big at 44mm. A classic 40-42mm watch case with this avant-garde finishes trying to be Techno should have been kept on an aviation leather strap with that Amsafe quick-release safety buckle from a Boeing plane. That might have worked. But then the bracelet looks like it a '70s Gerald Genta design, that doesn't fit the case design. All a little bit too much.

  • @andrestenstrup1042
    @andrestenstrup1042 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

If the watch runs -4 to + 6 sec it is COSC spec. But the thing is that it should be able to stay within that range for 4 - 5 years to prove very higth quality an not just for 2 - 3 years. We will see i the future. About the size. Most people will get use to it, but the very good tjing is that is it titanium. It must feel lite, and because og the size if it is being worn a little tight, then you properly won´t feel the size at all. But you can see it. a 12 days full powerreserve where it proberly runs very stabile the first 10 days is remarcebel. Perhaos if the make it run 2,5 HZ and not 3 hz, thy can get it to run for 10 days but have a 40 - 42 mm case instead.

However, at this stage, I’m pretty much convinced the lack of decent finishing has been occasioned by cost-cutting rather than any particular design narrative, and positioning this watch is the circa $7.5 range is utterly ridiculous. I think they’ll need more than just the support of social media influencers to shift these pieces at retail, but we shall see.

I might be a bit harsh on the criticism on this watch(this coming from an Oris fan boy), first of all the bracelet, I think it is a bit ugly, but the airline seat belt style clasp is a nice touch, I could always go for the strap if I don't like the bracelet. It is great that Oris is moving on to make in-house movements, but it does push the price up especially if think about the alternatives you can get at that price point. You can get a Rolex Milgauss or a Datejust 41 for may be less than the price of this Oris.
Overall I think the watch is great and it is good that Oris is moving on from making vintage style watches with Selitta movements to more bold designs and developing their own in-house movements. I shall look forward to what Oris has in store for us at Baselworld 2020.

A very nice watch. But, I just don't understand why it has to be placed under the "Big Crown ProPilot" moniker and model line. It's nothing like what the have traditionally been. Yes, I get they say they wanted to try something different for the future. But, couldn't it have been under a completely new model line? It's like the TAG Heuer and the Autavia.. makes absolutely no sense to call the field/diver or whatever it is considered an Autavia when it is nothing like all previous Autavia models which are definitely motorsports chronograph design rooted. Other than that, it's a lovely statement piece.

Why is everyone trying to hit the Rolex segment of the watch market? Seiko with their Prospex LX and now Oris? Brands should stay within their price range. Seiko within 300-500 quid with fun designed divers, Oris within 1.2-1.7K (GBP) range with robust bracelets and good ETA movements. The sub/GMT master/Explorer II market is where Rolex rules supreme and noone will take away their crown. Not a wise move, although I want to buy an SNR033J1 watch, but not this Oris.

    I have a problem.
    Or maybe it's an addiction.
When I start down this horological road (first watch was when I was five years old. Santa brought me a Timex 'learning' watch. That was back in 1965)....I had one rule and that was to try and not purchase the same brand twice.
Enjoy all the diversity the watch world has to offer.
I'm not a rich man mind you but as we all know, you don't have to be filthy rich to enjoy a finely made time piece on your wrist.
    ORIS is proof that.
ORIS made me break my cardinal rule.
I already own two Oris time pieces.
An Oris TT1 day/date (Bad ass case design I still find myself stating at) circa 2012.
And a ORIS Big Crown Propilot Chronograph i purchased in 2021....
And me thinks I have become an
    ORIS fanboy 😃
Because now.... I have a undeniable lust for the Propilot X.

@7:52 YES - CLASPs should integrate or be minimized as much as strong design allows. Who needs BULK under their wrist? Dials are such an area where design an be expressed that it's a shame they went for skeletonizing, which seems doubly unnecessary when the back of the movement is shown so well. Overall, its design suggests F1 racing wheels to me; the acute edges first made me think of the case of the Seiko *Samurai*, which is not a good thing at this pricepoint.

I’m honestly impressed with Oris. Skeleton watches are not my thing. But I’m impressed that instead of just resting on vintage inspired diver after vintage inspired diver, the put soo much energy into the design of something so bold and different. The price is high, but justified that they had to do so much RnD. Just like Omegas new $48,000 titanium movement aqua terra, it’s expensive to try something new.... glad you enjoyed your trip Adrian!

There are so many great watches between 7-8k you would really have to have a soft spot for this for it to be your choice. 10 day power reserve?!? Why?? Just make it 3-4 and get it COSC certified. Quite hard to make precise watch with that power reserve ...This is Oris not caring about their first clients

At 44mm it is a big watch, but the design is extremely interesting! Price, a titanium, skeletised with in house movement with 10 day power reserve for just over USD 7.5k....if this was Omega, Breitling etc it would be double, so I think it's a bargain!

  • @Roughdraft214
    @Roughdraft214 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Before vintage was a fad wasn’t the large watch a fad? Could it be they call it a pilot because it’s so large? Needing the extra space for the huge main spring? My opinion is that they’ve created something no one is asking for. Think about it... a five day power reserve is like wow, amazing! Panerai makes these but 10-12 days. Do you EVER plan on wearing it if you need it to have such a long power reserve?

The Oris Big Crown ProPilot X is a wonderful watch. The skeleton bezel is beautiful, the case is beautiful, the bracelet is fantastic , the clasp is cool and the transparent case back is awesome. I like the Oris ProPilotX. The ProPilot X cost less then a $10,000 Rolex Submariner and a IWC Big Pilot. Pilot watches are suppose to be big.

While I am a big fan of Oris, I just can’t like this watch. As you said, the design is too industrial and I’m not generally fond of skeleton watches, although I admit that this one does a better job at least of showing the hands. The movement is impressive, but I don’t buy watches for the movement, as if I could afford it anyway. But I especially dislike the size. As I’ve become more knowledgeable about watches, I’ve come to appreciate smaller watches, particularly in dress watches or every day watches, The big exception being tool watches. As to Oris’ ability to market such a watch, there are some pretty big questions. I just watched Federico‘s video regarding this piece, and while I’m know watch marketing expert, he is, and he makes some very reasonable sounding comments. I am betting that or us will be selling these watches out the back door at half price within a year. I’d like to be wrong because I do like Oris.

Hmm.. I'm a fan of Oris and really admire what they have done with the brand over the past few years (BTW The CEO seems like a really nice guy, too) but I am not convinced by this model. I hear what they are saying about preparing for the next big thing but not sure how well this model is testing those waters - 43mm, titanium look, skeltonised. Most brands have those t-shirts already. Whatever they do it should still have Oris DNA in it and I am not really seeing that here. I do wish them well though and they will still be on my Radar :)

The watch looks like something out of a Dr Who film.
Not elegant and probably not intended to be so but it's still pretty ugly. Unfortunately, there are shed loads of chinese specials out there which ape this style. In fact this is venturing into Invicta territory.
It is way too big, it is garish and it lacks restraint. Real style always hints at what's underneath, holds back and doesn't flaunt. This watch lacks class and it is as simple as that.
Seven grand? I think this will be withdrawn rather quickly. Frankly, this undermines the brand. The success of the Oris 65 has been tainted by this.
I think Oris need a new CEO.

Completely agree about making the 65 in-house similar to the Black Bay would kill.. but I'd also add... loose the faux aged lume color! Just kills it for me personally. As far as the new Oris.. design executed very well for what it is but not my thing.

This is a really interesting looking watch. I am not a fan of the bracelet but for me the real stopper is what else can I get at this price point?
