For me, this is the point at which you turned a corner in your Bark and Jack story. You sat in front of everyone and really opened up. I’ve come back to this video time and time again and I think this has got to be my favourite one because you talk about your relationship with a watch, only watch people understand. You chat differently compared to the other watch guys. Some of them are in this game for self gratification. You’ve gone down a better route and that’s why, I think your everyone’s go to person for a watch channel. Keep up the good work Buddy.

A: Adrian put a new video up.
    B: What’s it about?
A: How much he loves his Explorer.
    B: Again?
    A: This one’s on a mountain.
    B: Cool.

i wear my Hamilton khaki field for the same reason, i mean i’m 15 so having an expensive watch is pretty risky, yet people don’t know this is an expensive watch i mean it’s like £375, yet if i wore a daniel wellington or a MVMT people might catch attention as they’re recognisable, yet my watch, is so lowkey and at least double the price if not triple those watches and no one knows, its great

there’s just something about this video i love. not sure if it’s the cinematics, the passion of which you speak about the explorer, or a combination of both. but i’ve watched it, watched it again, showed it to my dad, then bought the 14270, then showed this video to my mum as well. today, it’s day 2 with my explorer, and here i am, watching this video again. hope you’re well adrian. 🙏🏼♥️

Everything you’ve said positive about this piece is exactly why I went with the 36mm OP no date. No one knows what it is. But I do. And the lack of the 3-6-9 makes it a tad dressier, and of course the jeans and t-shirt application is just fine. I like the double indices as opposed to the 39mm’s set-up even bc I feel it’s a better balance with the width of the crown. I do love the Exp. 1 however. ;)

Hi! I’m 47 and I’m in love with this watch since I was a little kid. In fact this afternoon I’m picking up the new 36 mm explorer 124270 from the Rolex retailer in Palma 🌴 de Mallorca.
      I’m so happy!
My daily watch is a submariner 4 lines 14060M from November 2010 and I absolutely love ❤️ it. But I have really good feelings on the explorer and for me is without any doubt one of the best watches of the brand.

I completelly have the same with my 14270 from 1996, it feels like it fits my wrist perfectly and I like how understated the piece is on your wrist. Honestly no matter how much my collection will hopefully grow and evolve over the years this piece will forever be my favourite piece.

Last year I was shopping for a new "everyday watches" and bought it. I planned to give my "old beater" to my brother. This watch is just a simple Hamilton Khaki. I didn't expect it but I was unable to give this watch since it was my fisrt one. I had to buy my brother the same watch and gave it. I still keep my Hamilton and wear it from time to time.

I've got this tiny little Citizen field watch on a leather strap. One of the cheapest in my collection but somehow every time I put it on it just feels right. It is physically pleasing to read the time. Same with some homage watches I own, where it's not about trying to portray an image (nobody cares what watch you wear) but capturing the feeling that a given watch would give you in a time in your life where you just can't be bothered to pay for a name.

  • @mb-watches

The explorer is just a cool piece, and it does look gorgeous on straps and bracelet. As well it’s the real bond watch. Wear it in good health Adrian and enjoy skiing, that time seems to be over now here in Switzerland and Germany...

I love my 2017 Explorer. You are so right when you say it is an ‘under the radar, understated’ watch where you don’t need to stand out or be flashy. Where the look at me is replaced with simply what’s the time. In a world where bigger is better, the Explorer needs no explanation. It just exists for the purpose it was made. I love it !

In my opinion this is the best overview on TH-cam of the 14270 and it's successor the 114270. I own a 2006 114270 and it is my daily wear and I fully understand why Adrian feels so much affection for his Explorer. Wonderful episode. Many thanks.

The "best" explanation I have ever heard of the connection between a man and his watch, and I have read the book. Adrian I think speaks for many of us. Back in the day, I wore a Bulova Accutron (the real one with the tuning fork) every day for nearly twenty years until it could not keep proper time. This was before the internet and I just could not find anyone to repair it. That watch was a part of me and everything I did. In describing his feelings about his Rolex Explorer, Adrian described in many ways my feelings about my Accutron. It does not matter if it is a Rolex or a Casio, its how you feel about it. This channel is first-rate and first-class.

I picked up a Tudor BlackBay 36mm pre-owned and it didn't have a scratch on it then I kept having 'clumsy' incidents with it and gave up trying to look after it. Because of all it's scratches and dings I actually started wearing it more and more and so loving it more and more.

After having watched this video at the start of lockdown in the UK, I started to really appreciated the Explorer. A no date sub had been the objective but this slowly changed to an either or scenario.
This week I've been successful in putting down a deposit for an Explorer at an AD.
Thanks to your video I'll hopefully have my dream watch in 2021! Keep up the good work.

I have one of the last 114270 made, dating from 2009. Boy I love that watch. Not my most expensive watch, and far from my most eye catching watch, but I simply love it to pieces. Got it complete with box and papers, and I’d never sell it. It’s been with me on some of the most important moments of my life to boost, and it was a present from my mum, unlike my other luxury watches, that I’ve bought for myself. So I simply love it.

For me, that's my Victorinox. I gave one of my watches back to my dad, and my mechanicals are out for servicing. And while I'd love the mechanicals, my quartz (and rare, because it's a steel case, instead of the plastic case) Swiss Army watch is my go - to. Extremely accurate, beautiful matte - black dial, 100m of water resistance, coupled with extreme accuracy make this my go - to. For me, it's the ultimate "high - low" watch. I've worn it in a suit and tie, and a polo shirt and cargo shorts, to even a dri - fit and basketball shorts. It's currently on a black Oyster Bracelet, and....I love it.

I think I can say without reservation that this was hands down the best episode of any program focussing on timepieces that I have ever seen. Anywhere.
So many watch reviews and discussions and “editorials“ are written ahead of time and prepackaged and just as dry as can be. The hosts and guests, discussion panelists, or what have you are simply going through the motions to produce content to shovel to the masses.
This was different. There was real emotion here, and you could feel it and sense it. It actually meant something to both the narrator and the viewer - after all, here I am inspired to write a comment, which is something I rarely do.
Gentlemen, my hat’s off to you for providing me with, however unintentional on your part, a genuinely sublime little interlude for my otherwise mundane afternoon. Thank you, and know the excellence is very much appreciated. - JP

The connection you have to a watch because of a time in your life is real. No matter what watches I acquire throughout my life I'll probably always have my Seiko 5 field watch because I was wearing it while trekking Kilimanjaro. It'll always remind me of that point even if it becomes a rarely worn beater. Love and understand the connection you have with the explorer

Coming in late to this party but had to comment as I had a Rolex Submariner, the Blue face with the yellow gold/Stainless bracelet, and I had the exact same emotion of being extremely self-consious when I wore it, so much so that I stopped wearing it and eventually sold it. I'm not sure if it was an awakening of humility or what but the emotion was real and quite powerful. With that said, I'm going to be buying an Explorer for all the same reasons why you like yours. Anyway, I appreciate your channel and what you have to say about watches.

I trade in two tone 41mm Datejust for OP36 and Submariner no date. Then I trade in OP36 and Submariner no date for a Bluesy 41mm. As much as I love Bluesy, I miss other two watches. If I ever going to trade in my Bluesy for something else, I will regret for letting my Bluesy go. So now I know, any watch I sell will be missed. Enjoy what you have, and never never sell your watch, unless you really have to.

Another great video. I own numerous watches but I’m particularly attached to my 34mm Oyster Perpetual. It’s hard to define why you get attached to certain watches. My dad said to me, “what’s the point of a Rolex which looks like a seiko?”..maybe that’s why I love it so much, it’s so anonymous. I’m a small dude and the 34mm suits me.

My relationship with my Explorer is very similar to yours. At the beginning, I was looking for a Submariner, but when I saw the Explorer I bought it instead. The fact that it goes under the radar is something you have to consider, I thought "Why did I spend so much on such a simple watch?", but I ended up wearing it every day and on every travel and I just love it. I can't really say why I like it so much, but I think you gave a really nice description of what happens when you wear an Explorer.

I totally feel you on the 14270 Explorer. I'm in the lucky position to own some beautiful watches, but if for one reason I had to narrow my collection down to only one, it would be my Explorer 14270.
Only thing I don't agree is your point on the 14270 vs. the 114270. The 14270 is more then rugged enough and will last a lifetime. Big advantage for the 14270 is that the early ones (till 1998 like yours) have tritium and will develop their own character in time.

Superb video Adrian! I have a 1996 version of the 14270 in my collection and I totally agree with all of your comments. I wear it regularly and I switch it's look between a RubberB strap and it's original steel. 💙💛

Thank you Adrian, my Explorer lll Polar Dial T-Swiss-T was my first Rolex ...the watch has been with me for over a decade.....if it could talk...the stories..it could tell....the places we've been...the flights we've had... and then there were not so good times and those friends no longer with us...every scratch and knock tells its own story too...and time is the most precious commodity...measured faithfully on my wrist

Just got my 214270 mkII about 2 weeks ago. I’m in love with it. I’m interested to learn you didn’t like the Explorer at first. That was me, too. But, over time, it grew on me.

My vintage Air King is my forever watch. I started out wearing it everywhere, doing everything - diving, whatever - but after all that hard service, I put it on a Camille Fournet leather strap and have made it number one casual watch. Like your explorer, it’s all but invisible to those that neither know or understand.

Recently purchased a Black Bay 58 (after being on a waiting list for four months), absolutely love it, have gifted three watches from my not so large collection (smaller now) to a good friend, all good watches but they would only end up seeing the light of day every now and then. The BB 58 was worth the wait for me, if I could have only one watch then this would be it

I work for a charity (working with people in addiction) and never felt comfortable wearing my GMTc to work as it felt a bit “flaunty” but now I’m in a managerial role and don’t have contact with service users I’m comfortable wearing what I want at last 😄

Oh, now I get the whole picture. On the other hand if somebody would say something or ask you about the watch, you have a good story to tell as you inherited the watch from your father. So did I, as my father died a few years ago he left a bit of money. I chose to buy something that would always remind me of that and bought a Rolex Explorer 1. Rest assured I will never sell this watch.

I really get you on this video. I have 13 in my collection and the one i wear for me because I love it so much is my Oris Aquis 43.5mm emerald green. I'm a large chap with 7 3/4" wrist so its not that big on me, plus the fact my wife bought it for me makes it super special. I appreciate your work on this channel.

Can absolutely understand the statement and relationship on the Explorer II as it is also my first Rolex. But having a Panerai as my first luxury watch was also ‘liberating’ in a sense that only a handful of people knows about the watch!

Omega Cosmic 2000. Bought it on skid row at a mega bargain price. With some love and a service it’s my most prized in my collection. The age, the look and story. Not that popular online but that makes me love it even more.

It’s a funny thing how these emotions occurs. I had a 16610 as my first Rolex, but quickly sold it as it never really tugged my heartstrings. I therefore sold it and years later bought an 116520 (white dial). Even now, 6 years and several other watches later, It’s still my favourite !
A lovely video, keep up the great work!

I've always wanted to try a Explorer 214270, but being a student, I felt it may be too sophisticated at this point in my life. To make a long story short, I ended up purchasing one at a Rolex AD (my first brand new, luxury watch purchase) only to flip it, and try to get a Hulk. However, I still own the Explorer, and don't plan on selling it. I truly believe you have to own one to fully appreciate it. The simplicity of it is what makes it so versatile, and I also admire how low-key it is. It is a fantastic, all around watch. Cheers, Adrian. Keep up the great content

The 36mm Explorer, and I'd also include the BB36, is perfectly proportioned and is the PERFECT daily and one-watch as far as I'm concerned. Some will say they both lack a date, who cares though? You all have a cell phone in your pocket for the date. I love my BB36 - which is currently on a brown calf leather strap now - and would never sell it. It was the watch I wore when my son was born. I picked up a Rolex 116000 back in December and love it just as much, but it will stay on the oyster bracelet.

Great story. Thank you for sharing your “relationship” with this watch. I agree with you, not my favorite Rolex, but you sharing has even created a liking for the explorer that never before existed.
I myself have a connection to a Movado Faceto quartz watch 38mm with diamonds. I bought it 15 years ago before knowing anything about horology, just loved the watch, and I still do, it is one of my favorite daily’s.

    Another great video Adrian.
2 weeks ago I brought a OP 36mm white dial from my ad first rolex and brand new so I can build a relationship with my ad. I am starting to feel the same about my watch only after 2 weeks. After watching your vids it really got me into rolex and thought I'd invest in a timeless first peace that hopefully I'll own the rest of my life.

I've always wanted to own a Rolex, but when I do it still wont replace my Tag Heuer 980 023, I brought it with my first wages in the early 90's & it's been with me through thick & thin. Scuba diving, foreign holidays, playing around with the kids, every event in my life & wouldn't ever get rid of it, even for the Rolex grail. So yes I totally get it 100%. Great video 👍

as a kid I have always dreamed about seeing a FIFA World Cup match live in stadium. In 2018 my dream came true. I saw, with my own eyes, Messi scoring for Argentina against Nigeria in a thriller game, in a wonderful stadium, in a wonderful city of St. Petersburg. On that day I had a Certina DS Prince Automatic on my wrist. Just an ordinary watch one might think, yet I can't stress enough how special it has become to me. This watch will be forever a reminder of a dream that came true. This kind of feelings are priceless. Amazing Video. Best Regards!

I've recently, come to discover, this same sense of connection. The wonder of, "do I really need, any other watches?" The "Explorer," is everything I think I need, in a watch. It's very cliche', but it really rings true, when said.....the "one-watch collection." I used to despise the "Explorer." GADA watches, in general, really. Now, I can't take it off of my wrist. Great work, as usual, Adrian. Your all class. Cheers...
