    20 years ago my mom used to play this when I was around 6. I was just too scared to play it because it was too dark lol

    I have to say that I'm very upset that I didn't know about this game back when I used to play Unreal Tournament on my iMac back in 2000. I played Unreal on my G4 tower in Classic a few months ago for the first time. The music was incredible to me. It was truly fitting with the first area. Then around 2:30 the music reminded me of Underworld II (DOM-Sesmar song) from UT99 while I was getting chased and shot at by these big, scary Na Pali guardians. Shame they don't make games this good anymore...

    Man, this song has such a feel of... accomplishing something! To finally emerge from that giant ship that imprisoned you to explore a vast planet. Without this song it wouldn't have been as mesmerizing and breathtaking the first time you played. It's as if it captures the story of the world and tells it in this song.

    When I first played this level, I - probably like a lot of people - ran out of the Rikers, and made a hard left. I got to the edge of the cliff just as the 0:11 "swell" to kicked in, and my jaw hit the floor. That was just one of many reasons why Unreal remains my favourite game of all time. It's never been uninstalled, I play it every couple of years, and it still gives me goosebumps the size of marbles.

    unreal had one of the biggest impacts on the shooter world imho. the game was just perfect, from the first second to the final fight.
    it was just such a perfect world, everything was fitting. i remember watching the flight around the nali castle for prolly an hour one day before i even loaded my savegame.
    not to mention it had coop (patched, but who cares...?)
    somewhere in my musicfolder i have unreal music slumbering that i exported with the editor :)

    I'm one of the fortunate few who played Unreal the day it was released, alas, so many moons ago it seems.
    It reset the bar in visuals and graphics (gameplay was great too).
    The music though, omfg, revolutionary. I have it all via MODPLUG and listen at least once a week.
    if you can find it, get it.
    Also highly recommended, the music from Planescape Torment, though you may need ACM to WAV to get it.

    If you go by the "story", then the PC was female.
    But really, the main character doesn't have a name. YOU are the main character, so everything is up to you. The character models have names, like Dante or Ash, but they don't really count.
    Return to Na-Pali kinda ruined it by making your character speak.

    Thanks, This is my one of my favorite songs in the game. I remember getting out of that cave into and hearing this music while seeing the mountains in the background and the dark blue sky it was awesome.

    errr...yet a again i should appologize, since i found my own contradicting comment in my first message...i said that System Shock doesn't belong, but then i said that i can't judge it, because i haven't played it...have to fix myself (hate to do that but still...)...other games i never played or heard of are Mirror's Edge and Metroid Prime...i judged them as uncomaparble and not worthy games to those other three, because if my memory serves right Metroid Prime and Mirror's Edge is not...

  • @Summon256
    @Summon256 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    those three System Shock, Mirror's Edge and Metroid Prime might be good games, but they're never as huge as other three monsters of industry (Unreal, HL and Deus Ex)...thats from my experience...yet again i like i said that might be just me living in a country, where other things are popular, than what is popular in your country...

  • @Summon256
    @Summon256 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    lets just say...i never got a chance to play it...that would be more like it...however from my experience i can tell, while other games like Unreal, Deus Ex and Half-Life were huge and recognizebale hits, there was no mention of System Shock amongst them...either that, or i just live i na country where this game is just not popular...

    Birds singing ... that lovely nali rabbits criing ... clear blue sky ... the vision of freedom and beauty on a totally alien planet ...but wait ... what is that confusing feeling in your stomach? what do you even afraid of? The unknown? Eh. Atmosphere indescribable. The sight. The sound. Masterpiece, the game and the music alike.

    than i just misunderstood you, when you said "blew ass" i thought you mean in a good way...its like when people say "the shit" they actually mean not exactly what this word actually means LOL...sorry for confusion and i agree with you, but like i said i never played System Shock so i can't judge it...

  • @Summon256

    ...and by cultivated trends i mean, those kind of games, elements of which other games and franchises try yo copy, because of how original it is...and those elements could not only be gameplay tied, but it could also b physics tied or atmosphere/vibe tied, weapons design etc...

  • @Summon256
    @Summon256 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    ...and i don't think Bioshock belongs here...don't get me wrong its good game and all, but its nowhere nearly as good as those other three franchises i mentioned...it just not fair to compare it to them, because those other three games aren't just games, they're more like cultivated trends...

    Damn I never had time to end Operation Na Pali, Nali Chronicles and Legacy. They are so good, but a bug in the first level of NC and the incompatibility of Oldskool extensions of ONP and Legacy doesn't make a player's life easier.

    Yeah, that and when you go down that long hallway. You push a button and it gets all quiet...then the lights start flicking off one by one...until one of those Skarj (If i remember right) comes out of the wall and attacks you!
    Awesome game :)

    I personally don't see what's the fuss about GoW, though i can see why Epic cherish the title for obvious reasons.
    They also buried Unreal II along with its predecessor's legacy, i don't know, but Epic has changed a lot over the course the time.

    I love this game. I still play it today. I will remember this game forever. Unreal is a masterpiece. I used to play multiplayer with my friend and we stayed up ALL night playing coop multiplayer. It was great. I wish more people would play it.

    You mean those game trailers pretending to be an awful Hollywood epic.
    There was a time game trailers was just to show you what the game is. Today, its gimmicky. Half Life 2, Assassin's Creed came to mind.

    One of the best in game experience ever, large open playing area gave the sence of freedom diffrent to doom and quake were you were always in side, to bad epic broght out UT it spolied the whole series :(

    The Action music still blows. I am curious why Epic completely abandoned their main franchise to go after the battle royale genre. Oh well. Their loss.

    @Nastor1996 Wheel of Time wasn't all that good imho, though Hexen 2 and Thief might be the only mideval FPS that are really good... Or that even exist.
