For everyone on team FlightChops - I know I say it all too often, but thank you so much for this. You guys are absolute artists. These videos will stick with me until the end and It's something I'll never forget. I said it in the past, but flying these types of airplanes just doesn't happen to someone like me, so it means more than the world to me to be able to capture some of my time on video to share it down the line and look back on it when I'm an old man! Can't wait for you to come back for the T6 and to take James flying, too!
nevervne Thanks Jared. It was awesome to fly with you, and then fun to relive it again ~6 months later as we went through to process of editing these episodes... And thanks for all the help with the making notes and correcting the details as we got the rough cuts together - this was by far the most epic production we've done to date, and you where a huge help!
We(Subs/Viewers) thank both of you for such an AWESOME video/flight. Loved the editing with the briefing. I'm starting basic Aerobatics on the Decathlon and what I saw here was both educative and really entertaining! I hope to see more of you guys flying together. You share the thrill and fun that flying is. Can't thank you enough.
Awesome stuff Flight Chops. I've flown the Pitts for a few hours and fell in love. Quick story: I didn't eat before my first aerobatic flight because I was afraid I was going to barf...I didn't but after I finished I was starving so I went to the local grocery store and got a plate full of food from their little buffet. I was checking out, I was so excited I had to tell someone what I had just done so I told the checkout lady that I had just flown an airplane ... upside down ... on purpose. She looked at me, pointed at some tables and said "It's OK honey, go eat your food, everything will be OK." :-)
I flew with Jared today in that Exact Airplane to work on Spin Recovery. FANTASTIC Instructor and the Airplane is out of this world. I cannot wait to go up and do it again! Terrific video and thank you Jared!
Chompwat Thanks! and yes, I did a pre interview where we joked about how awesome the video was going to be regardless of the fact that I was going to barf. I was so sure I'd end up barfing, but I didn't what Jared to hold back the aerobatics at all!
Back in the day I did about 20 hrs of aerobatic training. Your video really brought that first 90 min. lesson home again. You DID super, much better than I did. It'll get to be such a blast when you find your grove. Keep up the great effort - cheers!
Im a big Extra fan and this is by far the best video recorded featuring an Extra aircraft. I nearly felt as I was inside the plane myself. Well done pal!
FoxHotel Lima thanks so much for that comment - I'm trying my best to make the videos as immersive as possible - it is great t hear when people tell me it is working...
Happy to see Part Two! It's been a crazy week at work and having this to watch over lunch was a nice breather. This is definitely going on my flying bucket list. P.s. - I liked the editing between the briefing and then inside the aircraft. Kept a good pace and left you knowing what is about to happen. Good content idea here.
You have no idea how much I just learned...... I fly a 60% Extra 260 RC. 120 lb. , 342cc 35 hp plane To see and almost feel those maneuvers.....it all makes sense now and will help me smooth out those Maneuvers. Thanks. Chris Christopher. Hood River OR
Another fantastic and insightful video Steve - enjoyed watching this immensely and had a smile on my face throughout. I've done a few aerobatic trips over the past 6 months and it takes a while to feel comfortable with even simple stuff like loops and barrel rolls but once you get in the groove it is a fantastic experience. You've jumped in at the deep end of course by starting out in an Extra 300! Really looking forward to future videos especially your IFR training that we see a taster of at the end of this one. Also, really like the 3d graphics you are using to show the Extra and the manoeuvres you were flying. Great work as always!
This, along with part one, is the best, best, best, best, best flying video I have watched in some time. Keep up the good work. For now, your videos are as close as I can get to my own altitude therapy.
Can't even imagine! Excited for the instrument videos as well. Starting my night rating in a couple of weeks, but hoping to get the instrument rating in 2015 as well. Will be nice to know what I'm in for! I better pick up a GoPro or two while I'm at it...
Travis McCurdy For sure - Even if you don't plan to share the videos, having a GoPro to record lessons (and flights post training) for detailed analysis and debrief is invaluable.
Never had an opportunity to fly in an extra but I have gotten a few rides in decathalons in my early 20s .. and that was a quantum leap from cessnas as far as fun factor and pure excitment so I can only Imagine how this must have felt...your vids are great this one especially ..really captures that weird afterglow feeling you get after the flight when youre back on the ground ..just awesome !
Fantastic airplane and what a great instructor/mentor. Green with envy from the ground; my face would be green in the air. Really admire how you share your opportunities, videos and commentaries.
ZeroByteInFlight That's awesome! My deadline is "Friday" but I've realized many people have come to expect the videos at midnight every other Thursday :P So, I'm tryin' to make that happen so you have the video first thing Friday morning :)
Love it! I'm impressed you kept it together. I think my brain would've been scrambled a quarter of the way through and would've forgotten everything in the preflight brief.
And Steve! Thank you for your time doing this! We Really Appreciate all of this! Bring's a lot of memories back, from my RC airplane flying! the only Airplanes that could handle these extremes? Thanks!
Wow, this is some quality youtube video! Amazing experience in that Extra. You called the guy how lucky he was, while I was looking at your videos thinking the same thing!
Aaron Barnhard Yes sir - that flight was awesome. And what is cool is that Jared is as excited about the T6 / Harvard as we are... He was just in the process of getting checked out in it when we shot this Extra 300 flight (last June) He's now well over 100 hours in the T6 and loving the honour and privilege of getting to fly a legendary warbird. How are you guys doing with the Harvard? As soon as things get a little less crazy for me I am SO there to fly with you guys again!
Wow, 100 hours in a T6 - lucky guy! I'm loving the Harvard but the weather has kept me grounded lately. Hoping to take he up tomorrow. Looking forward to doing some flying with you, it's going to be awesome!
Aaron Barnhard it's all happening very quickly. I think lucky isn't a strong enough word! The T6 is by far the most incredible airplane I've ever flown.
I've flown in a Sukhoi at our local airshow about 10 years ago. I had a great time. Getting a chance to get a ride in an Extra is still on my bucket list. Since I'm disabled, getting me into the plane is the biggest challenge.
I wholeheartedly applaud your post-flight production work on this video! Having done them myself I know all too well how many hours it must've taken to put that together. Bravo!
Hi Steve and thank you so much for your awesomeawesomeawesome Videos, I enjoy the hell out of each one. Being only a Simmer and RC-Pilot, this is always an incredibly immersive and fun-to-watch experience plus your production value is great! Keep it up and coming!
I had the biggest smile on my face the entire video! Aerobatic flying is my dream which is going to be funded by my coming career in aviation. (currently working on commercial ticket)
Loved the video. Great content. Living through your experiences and journey. Wishing I had the confidence and drive to fulfill my dreams of a career in aviation. Thank you
blackninjaz1500 Thanks! And yes, my long time friend Paul does great work over at alphachannelFX.com (I've known Paul since film school - over 20 years ago!)
Great flight and great video! Thank you very much for sharing. Looking forward to your instrument training. I have 13.5 hours in Cessna 140s and 150s at Half Moon Bay Airport, from way back in the '60s. Now it's fast motorcycles and Flight Sim X. Totally cool, man. Thank you!!
This was fun to watch and also inspiring. Jared is like a big kid with a very professional attitude ha haaa. You have to feature him again in the future.
weatherandsky Thanks Kerry! And yes, I imagine Jared is just at the start of a rather interesting career! I'll be following him closely, and will definitely feature him again (and again :)
I had an identical lomcevak experience in a Pitts, long ago. The instructor didn't like his first one, so he did another. That's when I started to turn green...
Wow, you've got some fantastic G-tolerance, my friend! I flew the Extra 300 with Sky Thrills in Fullerton, CA. The best I could do was 4.5 g's, and it took everything to keep my food inside. Fantastic video too! Great editing, sound, et al. You've got a new subscriber. But I still hate you for being a beast with the g's, lol

hypnojdm Happy you liked it!
Awesome video Steve. I love the look on your face during the briefing.....
Bob Plourde haha - thanks Bob - yes, I was pretty sure I'd got myself over my head at that point. Thanks again for the support on Patreon!
I flew with Jared today in that Exact Airplane to work on Spin Recovery. FANTASTIC Instructor and the Airplane is out of this world. I cannot wait to go up and do it again! Terrific video and thank you Jared!
Great job!! I flew an Extra 300lL at Fighter Combat in Arizona. Best hour of my life! The snap rolls were the best!!
What an incredible pilot! I love how much he loved sharing every detail of the experience with you and by proxy, us too. Seems like an awesome dude.
I experienced the Extra 300L today. Cannot describe how incredible this aircraft is. Very minimal stick input and the
roll rate is so fast.
I fly an Extra 300L and I absolutely love it! I will never out grow this airplane and it is so superbly constructed! Thanks Walter!
That "Lamchavok" (sp?) maneuver is insane! Unbelievable strength that airframe has.
Just saw the new paint video
Came back to your early ones to see how long I’ve been watching
Almost 10 years !! What a ride
Right on - thanks for being along for the ride for so long. Yeah, it's been a journey!
I've been so looking forward to this film, and was not disappointed, at all!
Awesome work Steve, and congrats on holding it all in!

Watched this whole video with a smile and said "wow" way too many times to count. What an incredible experience.
Travis McCurdy I know, right? even when editing I had to keep reminding myself I actually did that!

I was cheesin all the way through the video. It's rare for me to be that excited about a video! Excellent!!! I must now go ride in one.
James Hastings love it! I had to go to urban dictionary to learn what "cheesin'" meant :)

Awesome! This looks like so much fun! I'm gonna need to do some aerobatic training at some point now.
