Loved your video of our home state! Chad, thank you for your service. My husband's uncle served on the original Yorktown CV-5 as a gunners mate. He was onboard at the Battle of Midway, WWII. Uncle recently passed away in April at the age of 96.
Oh, man! If only I had known such a thing would exist in the future, I would have taken better care of the taps. Some were unrecoverable after so many years. But I guess if I did know that, I'd have also bought google stock and likely be sunning on our yacht right now (it's daytime in the Mediterranean) 😎
Awesome to see you in our neck of the woods and our stomping grounds. CommonHouse is one the best breweries in the area. Glad your second trip here was pre-COVID. If you two ever swing by and want to hang with a couple strangers, let us know!
Chad thanks for your service . I was in the T.R. battle group for desert storm. We were homeported in Charleston this brought back a lot of good memories.
Tara, Chad: Another cool video. Lived in Charleston at the same time that Chad was on the Roosevelt and got to experience Hurricane Hugo. You hit a bunch of the good places in this very cool city. Visited a couple years ago, and while there are many updates, still charming. Loved the “vintage Chad” videos. Thanks for sharing. Travel safe.
Very Cool and reminds me of when my Brother took his Chief tests in Rhode Island. He would take us on a tour in nearby Massachusetts where they had retired ships and subs from way back. Nothing like a tour with someone who did it for 28 yrs.
I took my sons Boy Scout troop to spend the night on the Yorktown years ago! On the deck we heard a dad telling his son that the large nests in the towers were Penguin nest! We have laughed at that statement since then!! Enjoy Charleston!!
Great video. My Grandpa served on the Yorktown in WWII. We toured the ship in the 80’s and to walk the ship and have him tell me stories was a highlight of my life. He was so proud of the Fighting Lady.
That shot at 5:44 had 4 gators in it, two were very visible in the middle sunning, there was another in the water just to their right, and there was another one sunning in the background that you only caught part of.
Wow, serious flashbacks to my Radioman days onboard the Nimitz (yes, insert squid nicknames, ie Numb-N**z, etc.). I think we overlapped carrier duties as I left the ship in '91. Remember being extend 4 extra months for the entire Navy? So I always say I was onboard 4 yrs, 4 months! I left just as she was headed to the Gulf just prior to the war. My last ship was a USNS that did a rehab there at the shipyard. Oh, what fun that was! Thanks for rekindling old memories and another great chapter!
Its a pleasure to happen upon your channel. So glad to know you got to visit Yorktown. That ship has been a big part of my life. Seeing it everyday growing up, visiting it, later joining the military thanks in part to the great heritage I got to experience on Yorktown.
Thanks for filming it for me. Because we live here, we forget how pretty it is, thanks. We only get reminded when people come to visit. Ya'll come back now, you hear.
Thanks for the carrier tour...lots of memories (Ranger 1983)...I’m older 😮. Love Charleston & James Island park. Great videos thanks so much for taking the time to produce these!! Go Navy. 👍💪💪
We also love the Charleston area and all the restaurants 👍 one of our favorites is SNOB , Slightly North Of Broad street! Also in Mount Pleasant we like Page’s Okra Grill. Thanks for sharing your your travels.
I toured the Yorktown in the late seventies when it first opened as a museum and it was a very lonely place back then. I worked on the A6-E as a radar navigation technician.
My husband, John, and I love Charleston and James Island Campground is our favorite Charleston campground. We also toured the entire aircraft carrier, submarine and the Vietnam Experience at Patriot's Point. They were all amazing! Chad, it is so neat to find out that you served on an aircraft carrier. How cool! Thank you for your service. My Dad, worked for General Electric Small Aircraft Division, for 37 years, and was a technical illustrator drawing illustrations of jet engines and airplane parts for the field repair manuals for aircraft like the F-18 Hornet. He used to bring me on aircraft carrier tours as a kid. This was the first carrier I have been on since I was a kid and I know my Dad would have been thrilled to tour this carrier. He was a Navy pilot in WW II as well. We love the to eat outside on the deck at Saltwater Cowboys on Shem Creek and watch the sunset when the weather is not too hot. One of favorite restaurants is Page's Okra Grill in Mount Pleasant, only a hop, skip and jump from Shem Creek. Their food is delicious and portions huge and reasonably priced. We usually have leftovers or share a meal there. Great service too! It is a locals place and always crowded. Right now they only have outdoor dining. For awesome desserts, gelato, sorbet, fresh, organic coffees, sandwiches, wine, beer and cocktails you cannot beat Carmella's Cafe & Dessert Bar on 198 East Bay St, Charleston. They are known for their tiramasu cake, cannoli cake, triple chocolate mousse and desserts in general and one of the best espresso martini's I have had. I ask them to lighten up a bit on the syrup so it is not too sweet. We stumbled on a very cool, waterfront restaurant just minutes from James Island, called Bowens Island Restaurant, which is located on a 13-acre Bowens Island and 5 minutes from Folly Beach. They are famous for their locally harvested oysters, fried shrimp, hushpuppies, Frogmore stew and undisturb view of the river, marshes, islands and wildlife. We cannot wait to go back when we stay in at James Island Campground in late October. We cannot wait to checkout Firefly Distillery and eat at Lola's too. Thanks for the great tips, Chad and Tara. We love your channel! Happy Travels!
Love James Island County Park Campground and everything Charleston!! We always eat at Page's Okra Grill! Coconut shrimp is my favorite there! Hubby loves their carrot cake! Fun place! Cute video with all the old footage from your military days! Thank you for your service!
Loved this video of the Yorktown, my son graduated from NNPTC onboard that ship. Really neat watching your footage of the tour. We have recently discovered your channel, and have have watched videos all day today!
Love Charleston and James Island County Park, go there every summer for a couple weeks. I love your channel, you guys do a great job. Upon my retirement from teaching I would love to spend more time on the road ... hopefully run into you all somewhere.
Thanks for the video. I moved away for 32 years and finally made it back, living on Folly Beach. Your video gave us some ideas to check out. Hope you enjoyed your visit.
Wife and I love visiting Charleston. So many great places to eat and things to see. Did the haunted tour one year during Halloween. Didn't see any ghost but man the guide sure made you think you were going to at any second. Great job mixing in the '91 footage of your service. Seeing the F-14 made me feel the need. The need for speed. LOL!
Thank you for sharing this video of our home state of SC! My dad was in the Army back in the late 60s and served in Vietnam. He met my mom while in Japan. They got married while he was overseas, brought her back to the US and had me!! LOL! My mom is Japanese and was born in a cave during WWII. Thank you for your service! Love your videos and I'm hoping I will pass you guys on the interstate one day! lol
Great video. I enjoyed the tour of the Yorktown. Took my kids aboard for the tour years ago. My son is a Corpsman and has been in for the last 10 years. He just re-upped for another 5.
Great video. I really like the part shortly after your hair discussion were it looks like the traffic backs on to the freeway. I haven’t seen that anywhere else in the country.
Hi Guys. I have been following your channel for a few months now. Very informative. Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to pull all this material together. It has been very helpful as we prepare for our RV journey. Special shout out to you on this specific video with the throwback clips of Chad in the service. Excellent work!
We were supposed to go to Charleston area in early May, but Covid changed all that😔 We had planned to stay at Givhans Ferry state park (About 3/4 - 1 hr away) & see the Yorktown & hopefully the Hunley. Hopefully we'll be able to make it in the near future. Great video
Was a GSM on the USS Lefwich, a Spruance Class Destroyer in the 80's. Was transferred to the Kitty Hawk on Westpac 81-82 for 5 days to have all my wisdom teeth pulled. The berthing I was assigned to was right under one of the catapults. WOW!! Night Ops was banging away right above my head. Woke up the next morning face stuck to the pillow, a headache with more launches going on above!! Got lost numerous times and have great memories on board a carrier as sort of a tourist. Didn't feel that ship move once but once I got back on the Destroyer it was Yeeehaaa!! Thanks for the videos of your life on board the carrier!! Love all your videos!
I live in Charleston, near the Lake Aire campground. where you all stayed at once..loved seeing the sights of my town.thank you for sharing that..did want to mention that James Island County Park has ''The Festival of Lights ''during the holidays, through out the park.Drive through in your car,but we also enjoyed camping then ...train rides through the trees covered in lights , visit with Santa, gingerbread houses on display, gift shops open..lots to do..but with Covid now not sure how all of this will change.
We visited patriots point last year, it was amazing. My father was in the navy so I enjoyed seeing something similar that he used to be on. The koa campground in mount pleasant was a very nice family friendly campground! Steve gave us a hayride through a plantation right behind the campground. Lots of activities for young children. There is also a bridge near patriots point where the kids can play under the bridge! Totally cool experience!
2/15/24 - Am alife long Charlestonian & have lived on James Island for years! My Condo is 2 miles from the Park!! Thanks for the compliments on our Beautiful City! Y'all come back soon.
Has to be one of my favorite videos. I live here in the Charleston area and you really captured the essence of the area very well. My son is a Junior at C of C as well. Thank you so much for sharing the videos of your time in the Navy as well. I wish that I had videos from my 20 years in the Air Force. Safe travels.
Great video! Had a good chuckle when you were putting on your dress blues shirt, what a flashback! I hated that thing, I use to get a little claustrophobic putting it on. Made of wool and didn’t stretch a bit, so tight.
Our son and his girlfriend moved to Charleston a little over a year ago. We stayed at James Island about two weeks ago. Our favorite places to eat, not in any order... Red’s Ice House, Frosty Beard Brewing, Comeback Shack, Mellow Mushroom, Lewis Barbecue, Eggs Up Grill. The is no end to great places to eat in Charleston!
We were so excited to see this video. We are headed to James Island this weekend. We booked site 118. You have given us a bunch of things to see and do.
We live in SC and James Island campground was our secret. Was! Glad you toured my home state. We love Charleston. It’s a pricey area but the food and scenery are unmatched.
Chad, Just getting caught up on your Utube Broadcast. Really enjoyed your personal out takes on your time serving. Thanks We have kept watching more videos on your RV repairs and maintenance. I noticed that you had trouble with your bike tie-downs. Being a car and motorcycle racer and enthusiasts sence I was 14 I have transported many cars and bikes for over 50 year's. If you buy tie-downs that are round rings welded together, they won't spread apart into that P shape. HAHA. My wife Darcy Gerdes is an Artist and I am a Retired General Contractor / Motorhead looking to get an RV and do some traveling to get away from the snow and ice in Idyllwild, California 92549 in the winter months. Regards,Dennis and Darcy Gerdes Email : dennisnab@gmail.com
We were in Charleston in the fall of 2015, 3 weeks into our first trip of retirement. It started to pour on our carriage tour. We made it back to our campground where we were flooded in for 3 days! It was very stressful.
so cool. My husband works at Northrup Grumman here in St. Augustine Fl for the past 32 years and has painted many of the E2 aircrafts. He usually can remember them by the decals placement if he had painted it. Such a great trip you had.
Carol & I just love your video’s I’m just now getting old videos that I made in 1985. I hope I can get them to DVD so that I can upload to you tube. Both of you are inspiring each to do so. C&S travelers is the name we will be using on you tube.
I love Charleston & the Yorktown is always on my agenda! Loved the videos of your Navy days. My dad was in the Navy & felt like he was home when we toured the Yorktown.
I’m glad you mentioned James island. We loved staying there !! FYI try Pages Okra Grill for some delicious Gluten Free eats., we went twice while there.
Was stationed in Charleston Jan 71 to July 72 aboard USS HARWOOD reserve training ship, and then USS STRONG which replaced her as the reserve training ship. Loved Charleston. Used to drink at a small bar in North Charleston called The Mariner Museum Bar. It had lots of Nautical things in it. Had a shipmate who lived under the flight path into the AF Base. Scare the poo out of you when one of the big C5A’s would go over. Was at Patriot Point just after it opened and the Carrier and Sub was all there was. Sub was closed and nothing was on the Carrier yet. You could only go onto the Bridge and Flight Deck. Loved seeing the old parts of Charleston again. Was planning on taking my Grandkids there this Summer to show them everything and to see how much it has changed since 1980. Also wanted to show them the Vietnam display so they could see what I mean when I talk about my 22 months in the Brown Water Navy! Hopefully when COVID goes away I can go and take them. Thanks again for the Memories of one of the best towns I have ever lived in.
Chad, I was able to tour the Roosevelt two years ago in San Diego. I was with a group of farmers that were attending the National Biodiesel Conference. The National Biodiesel Board has Biodiesel Ambassadors and one of them is now a retired Admiral. Every year we are in San Diego we ask the Admiral if we can tour a active carrier. Every time the answer comes back, no. 2018 was our year. As we are touring, our guide asked how the hell did you all get a tour? We told him about the Admiral. He said "now I understand". It was a very impressive tour to say the least. I have been smaller active Navy ships and these in active, the Midway in San Diego, the Missouri in Honolulu and a couple different in active Submarines. But none of them compared to the Roosevelt. WOW!!! Thank you for your service
Thanks for the Tour.. Seeing old video of you in the Navy was Real Cool !! We are getting ready to go to Carolina ourselves here at the end of September.. OK Thank You and Be SAFE out there..
Hey guys! I have been watching your videos for about 2 months now, and I love them all! And Chad, I want to say thank you for your service! You and I were in the Persian Gulf at the same time in 1991. I was on the USS SAN DIEGO, AFS-6, as an EM1 (SW), and we did a couple vertreps with the Roosevelt while there. I have some awesome pictures of the ship too! Thanks for the memories, and especially all of the videos! Hope we can meet each other somewhere out in the camping world!
Great Vid! I really loved the short clips of Chad as a young man in the Navy. He was a good looking Sailor for sure! Thanks for your service! I was in Charleston in early June on a solo MC Tour from So. Calif.
Page’s Okra Grill off Coleman Blvd in Mt Pleasant was incredible. I had the chicken waffle and more okra that I could eat. Go early and often because its busy. Casual dining but great service.
Probably one of our top favorite destinations. We were there back in June. We ate at Reds Ice House. If I remember right it was right beside the tavern and table. Anyways, they had the best shrimp and grits. Y’all stay safe out there!
I loved your visit in Charleston, South Carolina. The food looked really good. It liked really nice seeing your friends too. That soup in the beginning you were eating looked good Chad. I don’t think I ever had that one before. Tara I know it’s hard when you try to eat healthy. I try to do it all the time. It is beautiful there. I would love to go see all of that. I want to wait until after the COVID though to go travel.i can’t wait until you come out with your next video. Stay COVID safe. See you soon! Sherri Weber
Loved watching you explain what you did, where, etc to Tara and gotta say the throwback videos were seriously just too cute !
Loved your video of our home state! Chad, thank you for your service. My husband's uncle served on the original Yorktown CV-5 as a gunners mate. He was onboard at the Battle of Midway, WWII. Uncle recently passed away in April at the age of 96.
Wow! I bet he has some stories! 🇺🇸
@@ChangingLanes When the Yorktown sunk, he had to swim in shark waters to another boat. Brave man!
@ Joyce Moses. My family is from Timmonsville.
Loved seeing what Chad did and the videos he recorded. He knew even back then he'd be a TH-cam star! Great video guys!
Oh, man! If only I had known such a thing would exist in the future, I would have taken better care of the taps. Some were unrecoverable after so many years. But I guess if I did know that, I'd have also bought google stock and likely be sunning on our yacht right now (it's daytime in the Mediterranean) 😎
Very cool footage of Chad in the briefing room. Thanks for sharing.
Chad interesting hear what you did and worked on and Thanks for you service. Great video , hope to make it to that area some time.
Very nice video. I also was in the Navy, lots of fond memories. Thanks for your service. I am 72 and a disabled Viet Nam Vet.
Thank you for your service! 🇺🇸
We like that your videos are about what you can experience while traveling in an RV, not just the RV itself. Thank you for your service.
A smile always hits my face when I see that you two have posted another video... :)
Thank you for the tour of the Yorktown. Loved the old Chad footage. Brings back memories as a plane captain for the A-6E (USMC) and my time on CVN-65.
If ya think the rural roads are narrow, the old Cooper River Bridge was even worse. It kinda made me tingkle every time I drive through it back then.
You guys are awesome! Your videos are like getting to ride with you in all kinds of cool places. Stay safe!
Very Cool and reminds me of when my Brother took his Chief tests in Rhode Island.
He would take us on a tour in nearby Massachusetts where they had retired ships and subs from way back.

👍💗
Loved seeing Chad back in the Navy. I felt the same way a year before I got out of the Army in '94. Great video!
Great video: Another place to eat on Shim Creek is Reds Ice House. You were so close and yet so far. Glad you had a good visit.

My favorite part was the ship tour and old video! Thanks for sharing.
We were in Charleston in the fall of 2015, 3 weeks into our first trip of retirement. It started to pour on our carriage tour. We made it back to our campground where we were flooded in for 3 days! It was very stressful.
One of your very best!
The Mellow Mushroom pizza was the place, where the one slice of pizza was enough for two people. Great food.
so cool. My husband works at Northrup Grumman here in St. Augustine Fl for the past 32 years and has painted many of the E2 aircrafts. He usually can remember them by the decals placement if he had painted it. Such a great trip you had.
Really enjoyed this. I travel to Charleston a lot but had not been to some of these attractions. Thank you for your service Chad!
Any day you can go to a Distillery is a good day. Great Video 👍.
Cool video y’all enjoyed the view of the Yorktown we toured the Uss Alabama and the Uss Drum way back pre Katrina it was very cool. thx y’all
Thank you for your service!🇺🇸
Welcome to our channel! 😊 👊🏼 ⚓️
I don't live in the US, but I enjoy the editing, insight and peace your videos bring. Great job!
Great Vid! I really loved the short clips of Chad as a young man in the Navy. He was a good looking Sailor for sure! Thanks for your service! I was in Charleston in early June on a solo MC Tour from So. Calif.
Thank you for your service!
Thank you for your service 🇺🇸
Great video! Loved the throw back videos
Well done!! I live in Charleston and you portrayed it well!!
That was very cool, lots of memories. I was on the Midway in the late 70's. thanks, and yes the racks were horrible.
