    I joined Harvest Hosts this year and just took a month-long trip across the upper mid-west, which included 2 stays at Harvest Hosts. Absolutely the best experiences for camping! Porter's Sculpture Park in Montrose, SD was amazing and the host, Wayne Porter is an artist, metal sculpturer, and a great story teller. He invited us to stay for a second night, which we did not hesitate to do. His sculptures are amazing. The second HH was Doe's & Diva's Dairy Farm in western Iowa. Janna was our host and just the nicest person. She set out a cheese tray for her guests, which included two families travelling together and me and we just sat around her patio visiting and swapping stories. Generator usage was not a problem at either location and both hosts were friendly and accommodating. I plan to include Harvest Hosts in all of my travels.

    I will say (and I hope you have heard this comment/compliment many times before mine), but you two communicate so well during your parking and negotiating obstacles, etc. It’s clear you have experience and that you take parking your home seriously. I hope you get contacted by anyone who puts together a “Skills & Roles Needed to Park Your RV” training video. Thanks for literally “Keeping It Real”. Enjoy all your trips and bike excursions. Can’t wait to see more Utah trips!

      I was thinking the same! when we got our rig, I found a pillow that says "im sorry for the things I said while trying to park the camper"... I figured it would be a good thing to remember and laugh about after a tough go

    So far we've only been able to try one harvest host - and the Host was amazing. Shiloh Vinyards in Western Kansas in the middle of a very hot July, literally saved these old folks. We did not have a generator, but they had some lovely trees to park under! When the Host realized we did not have a generator (we have since rectified that) she ran a cord from her house and hooked us up! Did not ask if we need it - just took one look and came out with the cord - We spend the afternoon sleeping in the cool! Had a lovely tasting that evening and bought some incredible coffee flavored wine for our own use and for gifts.

    After growing up on a farm and listening to a vacuum pump running, is like listing to someone's generator running. So relaxing. The vacuum pump is used to milk the cows.

  • @BenFoote
    @BenFoote 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Holy cow! What a crazy coincidence.
    We stayed overnight at Hinnant last summer on our way from Maryland to Myrtle Beach. We had it all planned out, and I made sure our generator was in great condition before we left...and sure enough, it was 95+ when we got to Hinnant, and the generator would die whenever the AC kicked on. We parked in the exact spot you did, and just suffered a super hot night with the toy hauler door, and every single window open. Will never forget that night.
    Then...the next day we stopped at a rest stop to make lunch, and the freakin' generator worked perfectly and ran the AC without issue. Go figure....RV life.

    We did a two week "shake down" trip in our new to us Class C through the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, through Wisconsin, to the Mississippi headwaters and then south to Hannibal , MO. Stayed at two different Harvest Hosts locations as first timers using HH. One was a brewery in SW Wisconsin (Potosi Brewery) and Danenberger Family Vineyards in New Berlin, IL. Both were excellent properties. Highly recommended. #goinsomewheretogether

    2:40 - We were told once that we had to make a purchase at their pro shop in order to stay and that can be just as expensive paying for a night spot. We were told that at a place we were looking to stay at in TN and it was mandatory or we could not stay there, so we wind up not going. But other places, including the golf courses have been nice at extending us overnight stays.

    Finally! Someone said that they occasionally need a generator to use Harvest Host. My boss (wife) wanted to try HH when traveling from San Diego to MS and back during the past two weeks (yes 4000+ miles in two weeks). It is HOT and HUMID in the south this time of year. It was 117 to 100+ every day on this trip. We don’t have a generator on our 5er, so I had to keep reminding her it was hot and there wouldn’t be any ac. No HH for us on this trip. Sounds like it works where the weather is mild. Thanks. Love your channel.

    You are making us want to go through NY now! Fireflies are something else. First time I ever saw one, I thought it must be some guy puffing on a cigarette. It was in a dark shadowy area. Except there wasn’t any body, I mean any body, standing there where the cigarette coal was glowing brighter then dimmer.
    Sleeping in the catwalk during aircraft launch? Thanks for your service, Chad.

    Cape Cod is actually open (we're on Phase III - outside seating and minimal inside seating in restaurants). Stay away from the weekends and it won't be too crazy there. The FamCamp campground at OTIS ANGB base had sites open as of yesterday, as are most private campgrounds. Also, FYI, we just got back from a whirlwind trip from the Cape to Tampa to pickup my parents and get them out of Florida. We stopped a FABULOUS Harvest Host called Bishop Estate Vineyard and Winery in Perkasie, PA on the way down AND up. Big 5 acre grass field so plenty of privacy. They had a $6 wine tasting, a changing food truck and weekend entertainment that draws a couple hundred people from Philly in. Great music and they stop at a reasonable hour, so sleeping isn't a problem. Highly recommend them if you're heading south from NH. Stay safe!

North Conway, Tamworth, Concord and Dover are just a few areas where my family live. The White Mountain area is lovely. Many Wineries all over NH. Lots of wildlife as well. We love following your channel. Enjoy NH!

    HummingBird Hills Winery looked like an AWESOME camping spot!! Haven't bought our trailer yet but I think harvest Hosts will be one of my 1st purchases once we have one. My wife would love that.

    Another great video! VA Beach campgrounds can be challenging. Lived there for years. Your campground used to be woods, but great fishing in the channel.
    Going to have to practice my backing up if I'm ever going to get in a spot like that.
    Tara, the bees were swarming you because your so sweet, and yes the are lightening bugs. There is always a flash of light, but I've never seen any flames so how can they be fireflies.
    And Lucy said tell Daisy hi.

    I’m happy for you to get to travel again. I’m immune suppressed and we just got our RV and started our full time RV life on May 26th. It’s been a bit scary. Those low hanging branches and skinny roads are scary sometimes too. We tow a jeep, so no backing up. Thanks for the info on the Harvest Hosts. We look forward to our first time. We will be making a mad dash to TX in Sept. to get all our plates and drivers license etc. We hope to utilize HH on the trip. The bird acting like she had a broken wing was a Killdeer. Sandpipers may do that too, but that was a killdeer. We had tons of them on our driveway in OH and on the farm land around us. They are noisy too, even in flight.

    Should have taken the bike out. Awesome riding area in Geneva. And the state park right on the lake is very nice too! The strip is fun too.

    Thanks for that. BTW Chad, maybe it's time for a truck performance and breakdown review now that you have some solid towing miles with your Ford 6.7 Powerstroke. Wouldn't take long I'd think and some could get an idea how it's working for you, your budget, and overall efficiency etc.

    Love this video .’’you guys seem so much more relaxed even when you were stuck in the roundabout with the jeep and the branches. We are just getting going again and just join harvest hosts primarily because of this video. You’re always fun to watch and very informative and we appreciate you taking the time to show us around. Keep up the good video , keep having fun and be safe. All the best Paul and Jane.

    We have only been to a handful of HH locations, but our favorite is the Train Mountain Railroad Museum, Chiloquin, OR. If you are in south central Oregon, check it out.

    We did not renew our Harvest Hosts membership. Overnight stops at winery cost to much. Two wine tasting $10 each, plus a bottle of wine $20 dollars. Total $40 dollars, plus we had to run our generator.. Total it cost more for this over night at a regular RV park. Also, some of the locations can be hard to get into, especially with vertical clearance of a 5th wheel.

    • @ChangingLanes
      @ChangingLanes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True.. but an RV park wont give you wine in exchange for the $40.
