Detroit is famous for coney island dogs! Lafayette or American Coney Island. Both started by Greek families. Can't wait to try your recipe. Since moving away i miss the food from home! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much for sharing you info! Come back and let me know if you liked the recipe. I'm sure it's not totally authentic since I'm not Greek but it tastes just like the greek hot dog chili we got as kids.
I'm from south carolina. Greenville to be exact. We have a restaurant called the clock. Been here for many years. The greek families own them Greek hotdog chili is the best . I love it on a hamburger!!! On my fries. I'd eat it on anything. The family will not tell their recipe I have made my own, pretty close. This looks amazing
Thank you for sharing your story Jennifer. I'm going to have to give it a try on a burger and it sounds AMAZING for fries. Its such a smooth chili that I'm gonna have to try it on fries soon!
Many of the NJ Texas Weiner sauces use things like cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, etc...the "warm" spices so to speak. Not a lot....just a hint but you know it's in there.
Sounds yummy 😋, I'm from Cincinnati the home of the Greek style chili, Skyline, gold star, empress, camp Washington, next time you make it add a table spoon of pumpkin pie spice, when done top it on spaghetti add some fancy grated cheddar cheese and onions, 😋 👉Yummy
why is it called greek chili, I don't see anything in the recipe that makes it greek ? I have always made my chili like this with beans, and I have made it without beans
While I am not positive about why it is called that, this short article has a good explanation about it most likely coming from Greek Immigrants. www.mashed.com/1617309/greek-hot-dog-sauce-origins/ Thank you for watching, I hope this helps.
For starters, it should not be called Greek chili. It should be called southern hot chili.. because behind every great southern hot chili is usually a Greek family owned restaurant. Minus the cinnamon., that would be for Cincinnati spaghetti not hotdog chili, and this guy I’m sorry has never made good southern hot dog chili before. But for you, Northerners out there hot dog chili is not related to beans whatsoever. This is not a bean chili..
Its beef broth or roast broth drippings.. not water or chicken .. this isnt greek it would be bland with cinnamon in it ,... Where is corn stratch...didnt see that either this isnt greek ..
Greeks use cinnamon in a lot of meat and tomato dishes! I cook a lot of Greek food and use cinnamon quite a bit! Take a look at a Pastitsio recipe and you’ll find cinnamon in it!
Hush karen, its ALWAYS that one person.. Thank, you for this, recipe im from louisiana and hotdogs with chili are my weakness lol,and i,was looking for a new recipe so thnk you sir..

Wow that looks delicious 😋
I really like it. Goes Great on Hot Dogs!
It comes real close to hot Texas weiner sauce here in Jersey but it’s missing a few more spices. It’s almost akin to a Greek meat sauce.
Thanks for sharing that info. What spices are missing to make it the weiner sauce you are describing?
@@SavorySaver I’ll let you know

Beef broth not chicken broth
Beef Broth works as well. This recipe works great for whatever broth the cook has in the cabinet. Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts.
Love a good chili. I'd circle the chili guy twice but that's all. I now date his daughter. Boy is it worth it.
