The first violin deserves the medal of honor. Amazing. So much passion from everyone here. This is exactly the format in which Johann Sebastian meant his music to be played.
It is always a joy to listen to Bach cantatas. This is no exception. Excellent soloists and orchestra.

This is not one of the better known Bach cantatas, but perhaps it should be.
Wunderbare Aufnahme - danke für's Onlinestellen! Wir führen die Kantate - die es heute in WDR 3 gab - in 2 Wochen, am 8.7.2018, mit unserem Chor und Solisten in Wachtberg-Pech (bei Bonn) im Gottesdienst auf.

Nr.2: Wie kann man Sünden reinigen? In meinem Text steht: "Tauft und reiniget die Sünder". Wie ich finde eine sehr schöne Aufführung der Kantate.

Bei den neueren Videos habe ich diese Funktion immer ausgeschaltet, bei einigen älteren Videos ist sie noch aktiviert, weil ich mich damals mit den Einstellungen nicht gut auskannte. Definitely not. You can find so many videos on this channel with solistensensemble stimmkunst (16 professional singers), but to bring Bach's great music to the people (to their ears and to their hearts) does not mean to perform it only in a so-called "historical approach" - it means also to perform it with a larger choir like the Stuttgarter Kantorei (three times first and second prices at German National Choir Competition by the way...).
@@kayjohannsen8959 My feeling is that Bach is so great, and so versatile, that there is room for many approaches, and as long as the musicianship is competent and the music is performed to the best of their ability and with enthusiasm, Bach's genius is all but certain to shine through. As it does here.
A sweeping condemnation like this should depend, if it has any validity, on a comparison with alternative versions, which you don't offer (neither does Johannsen, to do you justice). The You Tube options are Leusink, Rilling and Leonhardt. Leusink's first chorus tempo is similar, but the orchestral balance doesn't do the violin soloist justice. The hooty chorus trebles make it unlistenable anyway. Rilling is slightly faster, and this gives it that edge of urgency which Johannsen doesn't attempt. His choir is a similar size. So it boils down to the ability of the choir. Here Rilling scores again at the very first treble entry, where Bach switches suddenly and wonderfully to the major key. Johanssen here is ineffectual. So it's not a question of choir size but, well, you decide. There are other test points, if you want to arrive at a balanced picture. But you'll have to stop listening to this as background music and give it the attention it deserves.
