    For those who wonder at the organist looking intently at the music and never at the keys, my aunt, who taught me piano used to say, "Look at the music. The keys don't move."

      100% agree. If I start looking at my hands while playing, it just makes for confusion. If one has been doing it long enough and knows the music, the hands will go where they need to, on their own.

      American conductors I work with don't get what it takes to work with a keyboard/console that can be awkwardly placed so that there is little or no constant contact between organist a d conductor. And so they dismiss both organist and organ as crazy+incompetent. In all other things these highly trained conductors know just what to do. But with the organ: suddenly ignorance! A very fine conductor with a D.M. in my city once condescendingly found a second conductor who had to watch him the main conductor from the organ loft..stand over the very able organist like Victorian scold, and duplicate the main conductor's every move. Teach that rebellious boy a lesson once and for all. Only in America, right?

    The sheer beauty and glory of this cantata is brought to such glory in this performance. Never have I heard the opening Sinfonia so vibrant and triumphant and the Wir danken Dir so resonant and full-bodied. The polyphony here is so rich, it stirs you to cry. The clear sense of direction in the first aria Halleluja, Stärk und Macht is such a revel to watch. And he absolutely kills those trills! The quartet's intimate and virtuosic sound is so delightful to hear. And then the Gedenk an uns is just unfathomable in its beauty. The sonorous sounds of the strings and the Siciliano rhythm supports the entire piece as the stunning voice of Maria Keohane, the soprano, sings on top. There's a very striking and sincere beauty to this performance of the aria; it paints a very human sound.
    I cannot thank the Netherlands Bach Society more. I've listened to this performance for months on repeat. But then the solo work they they put out like Bach's Cello Suite No. 2 also reveals such an intimate and personal sound, each artist being able to bring Bach to life so vividly and with such virtuosity and skill; it arrests you.
    And to top it all off, it's all presented in pure HD.... I mean come on😩

    The living spirit of Bach playing this unbelievably glorious music - just the way it was originally conceived; played in front of a privileged audience and written down in order that life-long dedicated virtuosi like Leo van Doeselaar et al. to recreate for posterity. I wept for the sheer joy of this music. Thank you. - A.M D.G. Soli Deo gloria.

    When you see the audience many of them are old adults, but, I don`t know why when I was very young I was fortunate to hear for the very first time the Toccata BWV 540 in F Major and something happened to me and my brain, and since then Bach is in my head, no other composer, (for my taste and comprehension) is close to him, and I think that all composers after him thinks that he`s the best and forever will be.

      As a composer I listen to Bach the most - he inspired many other great composers after him, Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Brahms just to name a few. The more I study, lesten and play Bach the more I find out His genius and his love and devotion to God.

    Miraculous. There aren't words. It'd be heartbreaking if Bach himself never got to hear it like this, and that's entirely possible. His choral and orchestral forces in Leipzig were usually severely limited, both in number and in quality. (Neither lack was his fault--the Thomasschule admitted too many boys as "music scholars" who had no discernable musical ability at all.)
    .
    A previous commenter on this series said it was tempting to see all time not spent listening to Bach as wasted time. And, y'know,
    i understand that, I really do.

    Comme la personne précédente également ,j'ai écouté vos enregistrement des cantates de Bach "en boucle" mais certainement y a -t-il une différence d'état d'esprit ...j'y ai trouvé le soutien, la profondeur, l'Espérance, la générosité, le réconfort dès le jour du décès de mon époux bien aimé ,il y a maintenant 4 mois, chaque jour et jusqu'à présent . Merci JS Bach , merci l'ensemble de la Société Bach des Pays-Bas !

    Once again a superb rendition by the Netherlands Bach Society. As usual, van Veldhoven conducts with perfect control and feeling. This is a solemn, bright cantata with echoes from the B minor Mass. The BWV number is only 29 but I feel this should be a much later, more mature work by Bach. Wir danken dir.

      @jsbrules 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Jorge Urzua Urzua The BWV numbers are not in chronological order, so being 29 out out of 200 doesn't imply that this is an early cantata. In fact this was likely written in 1731 well after Bach had completed all his annual cantata cycles.

      Die Mächtigen dieser Welt arbeiten genau am Gegenteil. Alles, was wahre Kunst ist, wird diffamiert und mit Dreck beworfen. Um so wichtiger ist es, dass es Orchester dieser Qualität gibt, um das in Erinnerung zu rufen, was die Menschheit an großen Dingen hervorgebracht hat.

      A arte da Maria Kehohane é apaziguante.
