    I’m a man and Mary Beard is a role model and hero not just for women but for anyone who wants to be themselves. Who don’t want to feel like they have to look a certain way to “fit in”. Thankyou so much Mary

    I'm not ashamed of my grey hair and my wrinkles. They're tokens of all the years which have passed, and I do nothing to cover up either of them.

    I really enjoy Mary beard and her huge intelligence and wisdom... I'm a sixty two year old lady and in the last six years since my ex left home, who used to color my hair for me, I've simply let my hair go to its natural grey, and I love it, and people, men and women, say its a great improvement from me ending up looking like a blackcurrant when my ex left the dye on for too long etc etc..... And yes I have to say kirsty surely could have bought a better quality wig, honestly.....

    I went natural about three years ago. I had colored my hair for so long I wasn't sure what it looked like. It's a lovely soft brown with a gray streak off center in the front. I really like it and I'm glad I went to my natural hair 👍

    I love my white/grey hair. Had a very short crop cut done 3yrs ago after having long dated blonde hair for many years and then grew it all back again without the blonde bleach dyes 👍🏼 Love Mary Beard too 😻

    I let my grey hair grow through just as the first lockdown started. It’s now cut into a trendy Bob and I love it: No more hours and a small fortune spent in the hairdressers, only for the grey to pop through in a couple of weeks.I feel so liberated.

    I let my long hair go gray and get far more compliments on my hair now than I ever did when I has my original natural color. It has very thing to do with the style of your hair when you are gray, not the color. An older lady style in any color just ages you.

    Kirsty's wig looks like a hat made from horse hair! Grey hair can look great as long as you adhere to the golden rule i.e. a good quality cut to suit the shape of your face. Nothing looks worse than a middle aged man or woman with a mop of dyed dark hair.....just look at Paul McCartney! Sadly we are living in an age of selfies, image obsession, vanity & celebrity culture.

      .... Not true ... people can look great with their hair colored ...,or grey ... it very much depends on the individual... I am growing out my silver because I think it’s cool ... not to make statement ... I am 65 & still look great with my dark brown hair ....as does Pau McCartney ... he looks awesome no matter what.

    Hugh is so far removed from women experience of course he’d ask if it’s self imposed. He’s speaking from a privileged male perspective. I love seeing women being powerful, seen and natural hair color! I’m almost 100% my natural color, greys and all.

    The wig is really awful; however Mary Beard is right, the pressure upon women to look "young" is unremitting. The truth remains, though, that no one EVER looks younger from dyeing their hair as they generally go much too dark. I worked as a Hairdresser for many years; the mistaken wisdom is that darker=younger, when actually the opposite is the case. Your skin lightens along with your hair. I stopped buying into this nonsense about 5 years ago and believe me: it is very liberating! #gladtobegrey

    Two women sit opposite me in a room. One looks and sounds like Kirsty, the other is a much younger woman. Both are dressed for business. I would probably focus on the older woman. They have a certain allure that I find difficult to ignore.

    Comments are disabled in many of Kristy Mark's BBC interviews but alas I finally found a place to give some feedback. Kristy's interview with Germaine Greer was disappointingly shallow and I felt that she relentlessly pursued one line of inquiry which did nothing to elevate the conversation. That's not good journalism in my view - as a consumer.

    I think it's the pressure that women pose on themselves. If more women would stand up to being gray, it all would be less of a problem than everybody thinks. Gray can be as interesting or as boring as any other hair colors.

    I’m 64 with coloured hair and I’m still not noticed! Women become invisible with age regardless of what they do with hair and makeup - unless they’re in the entertainment business ... and then it may not be positive.

    Mary’s right. Men are very sensitive when it comes to the hair. Very few like to discuss going grey or going bald. A very deep seated insecurity. Wigs are socially acceptable for women but far less so for men. Swings and roundabouts

    Women have been wanting to get rid of wrinkles and greys for thousands of years. It's not just recent days. It's natural for human beings to associate greys with old age and death, and we are in constant denial of the inevitable death.

    I don't know what they are discussing here. :) if people were born with a grey hair, they would be discussing the opposite. So this in itself proves that natural coloured is better. And actually it is. Can anyone say they look more nice when they get older than their younger self? No.

  • @twominutetips

    This is very poorly done. The wig for starters is inexcusable. The woman with the long hair with no style and no makeup and simply no packaging + the damn propaganda of men are better looking than women. THIS IS THE KIND OF MIS-DIRECTION that keeps us set sooooooo far back. Come on. This makes me angry actually because its nowhere near on point.

      +twominutetips she is Mary Beard: can you imagine how damned awesome she is to have managed to get the top of such a male dominated sphere as Classics? She doesn't need make up and frippery to validate herself: and I challenge the assumption that it is needed or even desirable. Would you make a similar comment about a man? No of course not: it is this type of attitude which keeps women down.

    • @twominutetips
      @twominutetips 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Paddie Reed Oh you bet I'd make the same comment about a man and have helped many men and women to achieve a well groomed look.

    • @rosyenrica
      @rosyenrica 8 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      you've missed the point, Mary Beard is very happy to be comfortable in her own skin, that is the point she is making, I don't think she wants you to 'groom' her up. Why not listen to the content of her series on ancient Rome, she is amazing and I think speaks to a lot of us. Maybe wait until you are older, you might get what she is trying to say then

    • @twominutetips
