Kinda sounds like when people from Chicago say no one from Chicago eat deep dish and it's only for tourists. Not true. Chicago wasn't touristy in the 70s and 80's. Pat's was a go to up until the 80's. Then in the 90s became a tourist trap.

I was raised in a sub shop and we had really good cheese steaks and Italian subs. And we made Texas wieners to die for. Even the Duponts used to come to our store. I think that we had the best cheese steaks and subs in the city. They were mmmmmm good
For the general rundown, in Philly, the typical cheesesteak features American White cheese. Provolone is usually aimed for by Italians or Italian-enthusiasts. Cheese Whiz is generally aimed for by tourists[the mass majority(not everyone, just the around 85%) of us Philly folks can't stand that one a steak... on a pretzel? Sure. On a cheesesteak? Nah]. They even don't do that in the schools that serve lunches. Just stating truth. These spots are more touristy & not the ultimate places that folks in the city usually go towards.
Also not every roll that cheesesteak shops have are amoroso. There are a lot more rolls out there. Like Conshy, Liscios, Aversas, Federal and plenty more. It’s just cheesesteak. Not Philly Cheesesteak.
I love Philly cheesesteaks, but I can't ever see myself going to Philly to get one. These places are probably trying to save money on the steak, but having bigger chunks of onions. Not my thing. If I had the money to do the Philly Cheesesteak experience, I would go to Philly, but since I don't, I won't waste my time with the huge onion experience. I have a place in my hometown which is really good. Have had 'em for 25 years now.
I'm a Philly native living now in Virginia, but I literally drive/fly back home on weekends just to get Dallesandros to bring back to VA. Dallesandros for life!!! 👍👍💪💪💪❤️❤️
If you ever make it back to Philly you need to add some spots outside of Philly in the suburbs Curly's Creations, might be one of the best cheesesteaks and they're huge!! Down the street are deep fried cheesesteaks at Hoagie Xpress with a side wiz. Last cross the bridge into NJ and stop at Meatheadz, these are on par with Curly's.
Pat's and Gino's is garbage, how are they so famous!! I really hope John's Roast Pork is in part 2, because if they missed that one, they were missing out. Also probably the best pizza place (maybe in the world), Angelo's, has an amazing cheesesteak.
Why are they eating povalone and cheese whiz on their cheese steak? I'm native to North Philly and the most common cheese to use is American cheese. Whiz is a bit more of a south Philly thing. Maybe old school but not the standard anymore. Pat's and Geno's suck! If you order something other than Whiz Wit they just slap cold cheese on top of the steak. It should be mixed in with steak on the grill or at the very least melted on top.
@@Broski__ Having provolone is fine, or whiz even if that's what you like. My point is that if I were to go order a cheese steak at a local place and I didn't tell them how I wanted it. Just said I want a cheese steak. I would get a steak with onions and American cheeze. This is standard, but American cheeze was never tried in their video. American cheese is not a sharp like cheese whiz or provolone. You get a completely different flavor profile from it. It is a disservice to the viewer not to have tried it or at least make a note of it. It gives the wrong impression about what the Philly Cheese Steak is.

Nobody uses sharp provolone, it's all mild, except for Tony Luke's I think. American melts better though. No other cheese gets you the same gooiness. I agree they ordered the wrong thing every time. All random toppings. Should be the same order at each shop to keep it even.
Someday I will take this challenge myself! Until then the best I have had is a place called the Cheesesteak Shop out here in the Bay Area. With that being said you guys make the best vids. Keep it up!

Years ago Leo’s butcher shop was the place to go for huge delicious juicy cheesesteaks. Leo’s was a wet cheesesteak experience. You had to towel down after finishing it. Don’t know if they are still around.

NO ONE in Philly gives two sh*ts what you get on your steak...look at the menu at every pizza shop, there are a dozen varieties listed......douse it in ketchup, throw some mayo on there, get a cheese steak hoagie with tons of lettuce and tomatoes (though they are better with chicken), get a pepper steak, or use Swiss cheese. Geno’s uses Liscios rolls btw. I will say, the only good cheesesteak I ever had from Geno’s was one I made myself at the end of my shift.
