They just launched a new dedicated throttle as well. I worked with them to bring the Gladiator Mkl & Mkll Review to the US market back in the day at launch. Still use the Mkll from time to time. Really great company to work with. Great quality products for a very competitive price.

Here's a tip for getting a solid base. I see you're getting some tilt action of your base plates 02:30 Try setting them down on a clean hard surface with a 3/8" ball of kneadable eraser (artist's eraser) at each corner. Put the ball under the plate and push down hard to the table. It will semi-permanently adhere the base with around 40lbs of force.

Nice review. I love my VKB sticks! I burned through three T16000m sticks back when I first backed Star Citizen nine years ago. After the third failed, I went hunting for a new stick and found the VKB Gladiator, the predecessor to the NXT line. That first VKB stick is still going strong, now with numerous upgrades, plus I've added a couple VKB Gunfighters, an NXT throttle console, and various grips to my collection! Plus their software allows sooo much customization... that's where I add curves, tune deadzones, and such. I fly dual stick with both sticks vertically oriented. But now you have me wondering about the Omni throttle 45° setup. May have to give it a shot! 😂

Just stopping by to say I am extremely happy with my dual VKB sticks. I too upgraded from the T16000s. I had to take my T16000s apart multiple times to clean and relube them. They were a constant headache to maintain in working order. I haven't had any issues with my VKB sticks. One thing I do wish that they would offer are custom dust covers for the sticks.

I 110% agree with everything SMB said about this setup, even the part about the T16000 breaking within a year of using them. I have also ben using the VKB dual stick setup for a little over 2 years and can agree they are the best setup for flight/space sim for the price. The amount of buttons and side extensions to further increase those button options is hard to beat. The one thing I did recently add but have not had a chance to use it it their peddles for further immersive flight experience, I will use these once our house is finished being built and I can start on my flight sim setup. These truly are the best sticks for the price point. Awesome review!!!

@@DeutsBouiI have dual Omni sticks and love them, it feels more natural and comfortable and puts less strain on your wrists with twisting. Some things to consider though. One issue I have had is that the Omni sticks are a little less stable on a desk without a mount. I've never tipped them over but quick movements can unsettle them. Another is that I believe the mounting of the stick to base is plastic so it's unadivised to remove the Omni sticks if you want the traditional stick layout.

@@DeutsBoui Sorry buddy, dont pay attention to replies. Honestly I love the dual omni setup. It really makes for a relaxing game day. I used to get hand cramps from the vertical aligned stick, but putting it more inline with a relaxed hand position just made sense and I will never go back to a vertical stick! For as cheap as it is to get the omni setup it is well worth giving it a try and its super simple to install and swap out.

i would totally pay you for some of the same chair mounts, I have one of those large L-shape desk with the monitor in the corner straight area. i cant use traditional chair mounts bc it leaves my chair to far away from my keyboard when i transition to FPS and cant use desk mounts bc its either to close to the desk when moving either stick on outside movement and bumps the desktop or when you move the mounts in more the hardware prevents my keyboard and mouse from being close enough to not get back issues when FPS

I have the identical setup as you. That 45-degree left stick made vertical strafing far more intuitive than my old conventional left stick with Z-axis. I also feel the spring-loaded rotary dial (bottom left) is a big plus over the old design. I use down for exit seat and up for open outer doors. Errands (like looting or deliveries) in a Pisces are insanely quick.
I first had the Warthog, and one thing bothered me about the Thrustmaster products - you need to run the TARGET software in the background to fully utilize its features in SC. Throttle profiles and switch behavior needed tweaking, because the SC options don't have the range of controls needed to dial it in (for my taste).
VKB has customizing software, but the profiles are saved within the device - no need to run background software while playing SC. This might be an issue for those who need different profiles for different games, but loading the different profiles per game would occur with either product.

I bought dual T16000m's and got exactly 2 weeks out of them before the z-axis started acting up on the right stick. I didn't mistreat them or go gorilla hands on them. They're just a bad design imo. Got 10 year plus old joysticks here that still work over the T16000m's. After watching some reviews I decided to order 2 of the VKB's. Can't wait to get these babies and jump back into Star Citizen. Great job on your review.

I’ve had a T16,000 M hotas for about three years, and while it served me, well, I’ve been keeping an eye on Facebook marketplace for gladiators, and I managed to find a great deal. It’s a huge huge upgrade from the stick, especially, you have so many more controls at a reachable spot, and it’s so much smoother and more precise. I recommend taking a look for some used ones and just watching the market to see if any good deals come up.

Top tip - start off with a single joystick for the right hand (replacing the mouse) with your keyboard. This setup works very well. You'll ultimately end up wanting two sticks (because it feels brilliant), but this is a nice 'easy in' to analog control, to kick off with. Can confirm VKBs are fantastic.

The thing is, depending on location and shipping costs, buying the cheaper alternatives like 2 Thrustmaster 16000 for example you end up spending around maybe half of what you could have saved up for Gladiators on something that isn't just worse, but also extremely bare-bones and known to break very fast.
Virpil has the omni throttle option too, but they do exclusively premium, unlike VKB which do both budget and premium.
However, last I checked VKB don't have a metal Z attachment for the omni configuration, which is disappointing if you want to go all-premium price range.

  • @Furluge
    @Furluge 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

I'm someone who started with space sims with Wing Commander back in the early 90s. I probably spend more time collecting controllers these days than actually playing with them. I've flown with old school two button analog dos sticks, Saitek x45, CH Fighterstick USB & Throttle, the VKB Gunfighter III and the Gladiator NXT EVO.
And Gladiator is definitely dollar for dollar money you can spend. The only thing I would say is that is to look at the Gunfighter and see if that system has the extra features you want. If you want those extra features then you may want to skip the Gladiator.
Before I mention what those features are I'd like to point out a few things you don't lose out on or that the Gladiator has going for it vs the Gunfighter.
    1) You get a selection of inputs directly on the base. - I can't mention this enough but you get a number of convenient extra input right on the base of the Gladiator that the Gunfighter does not have. If you decide you want, say, a throttle encoder to set a cruising speed for your ship with a gunfighter you'll need to buy an extra device or use the keyboard.
    2) The get the same grip quality. Because they're the same grips. You can even buy an adapter to put your Gladiator grip onto a gunfighter base should you decide to switch later.
Namely what those extra features come down to the following:
    1) You want quick grip changes. - You can change the Gladiator's grips but you have to change three self tapping screws that are accessed after removing the base plate so it's not fast. The gunfighter has you tightening a side mounted screw that you can switch.
    2) You want grip extensions. - You can have a 100m or 200m extension with a gunfighter stick. This ties back into part of the reason why the gunfighter doesn't have controls on it. With it being hard to tell where exactly the base will be it makes more sense not to include those inputs on the base when there's an upper limit to how many axes and buttons windows will support on one device.
    3) You want to be able to change the center detent and the response curve. The gunfighter comes with cams you can switch out that. You have two sets, Avia and Space that come in a soft and hard detent center option. Avia cams get harder to move the closer you get to the extreme edges where as Space cams have a linear tension from center to edges. The cams can be placed on each of the x and y axis and don't have to be matched as a set.
    4) You want more spring options. The gunfighter axes can have two springs on each axis where as the gladiator can only have one spring per axis. This is mainly because you will need strong springs for longer stick extensions. But this does mean you've got more tension options.
    5) You want the Modern Combat Grip. This is the one grip that is not sold configured for the Gladiator. Simply put this thing is a massive chonky beast that would not be a good fit for the Gladiator base. The space combat grip takes a lot of cues from this type of real-world grip but the space combat grip has streamlined and re-imagined it for a more sci-fi look that is coincidentally has less weight and production cost. The MCG is not. And it's gigantic. Things like a real pinky break, more swapable hats / ministicks.
    6) You want a smaller footprint for mounting in a cockpit. So this is not going to be universal. You could easily mount a Gladiator in a cockpit too. But sometimes in a cockpit, where you've got dedicated places to mount extra controls and such the extra space the gladiator dedicates to the base can actually get in the way. For example if you are trying to do a center-stick setup the smaller footprint and an extension can make that MUCH easier.
    7) You want that all metal construction. I think the Gladiator construction is perfectly fine. CH sticks have been made from heavy plastic exteriors with metal bearings where needed and CH sticks from the 90s are still happily trucking along. And the gladiator is using magnetic sensors for it's major axes so it's going to have very low wear and tear. But if you want want an even more overbuilt base that is even easier to service as a user the gunfighter is that. That said I think very, very few people will ever notice any difference here. If you don't care about anything I mentioned in 1-6 and you're just getting a gunfighter because it's metal, I'd say just get the Gladiator and save your money.

I am thinking about getting the throttle, can anyone tell me how the feel of the different axes works? If you push forward/back, does it stay in place like a normal throttle axis? And then if you push the throttle left or right, does it spring back to center? Is there a way to lock/unlock or spring/unspring either axis direction? Edit: Nevermind I found you can do ALL OF THE THINGS. WOW!

I'm thinking about getting 2 sticks, so wondering if 2 sticks are better than 1 stick and one sideways one (forgot what those are called) like in the video. If anyone can give me an answer I'd appreciate that. From what I understand the sideways one is good if you play a lot of Flight Simulators, but if it's mainly for SC, 2 sticks (like the right one in the vid) are preferred. Do I have that right?

i'm about to purchase this stick setup just need a little more info. How do you manage your keyboard and mouse for when you are transitioning to FPS play. Do you find it comfortable to operate sitting on your desktop or would you prefer going with a desk mount. Im leaning on the deskmount option only issue is im one of those bigger L-shaped desk designed to put the monitor in the middle of the curve. I currently have T16000 and throttle and have it on the desktop but get frustrated with the right stick moving around when in combat and having to move the right stick out of the way every time i land or go FPS.

I’m looking at buying some too, their are chair mounts for the flight sticks I’m looking into from “monster tech” so they sit on your chair instead of taking up desk space. Look well priced compared to the vkb mounts as well might end up going for those.

3:50 - just as an info point, Virpil also offer a z-axis adapter for their sticks so you can set up with an omnithrottle like this :) I've been flying with that setup for quite a while now, very pleased and as you say, best of both worlds. Doesn't work very well for regular flight sims though, so anyone playing both should expect to find the need for a dedicated throttle too.

Anyone wanting to dib their toe into HOSAS with T1600's i suggest dont bother, just go straight for these. The T1600 will break inside a year, you'll buy these anyway then you'll need to get used to the new maps, speaking of which i highly recommend subliminals maps.

For star citizen, the best settup is to get some desk mounts so your arms are in a more ergonomic position and you can play for alot longer without cramping. Also get some pedals for throttle so you dont have to have one stick at an angle, unless u plan on getting 2 angled for ergonomics. Have Right twist locked, with the axis on pitch and yaw, with the left stick having up/down and left right strafe on the axis and roll on twist, with thrust on pedals. This has been found to be the best settup for accuracy when figthing.

    • @robbhays8077
      @robbhays8077 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

just the case is ABS, although it's a decent feeling result, I wouldn't be concerned about that. The gimbal is glass fiber reinforced polyamide so it should be pretty strong. It's still plastic though, so if you think you will ever have to replace the stick once outside of the 2 year warranty, you should get the VKB Gunfighter model or something else with metal parts. It doesn't look like they sell replacement gimbal parts on their website.
