  • I’m doing a few more crosses after freeing up a few tanks. Also got a huge surprise out of a black moscow female drop. Plus the nutty axolotls.

      Thanks! I am thinking 1 of the crosses will come up with small bodied black panda guppies. I have no idea what the other way will be. I'm pretty sure the moscow males genes are very dominant in crosses but the moscow females not so much.

      @@DGrey that's the "fun" of sex-linked traits and genetics...reverse the sexes but still cross the same two strains and you may get 2 totally different looking fish!

      The weird outcomes are the exact reason I have been doing the crosses both ways lately. Truly amazing what is passed on by a female but not by a male of the same strain.

      @@DGrey just a question.. how long do you expect your guppies to live for...I have a few that are about 2 years..the rest are maybe 12 to 14 months maybe older..years ago I would expect my guppies to live nearer 3 years..but I am starting to find the odd dead male from my older batch of fry..to me it seems the yellow ones are not strong as my other fry..have you noticed that some fish are stronger than others.

      The smaller bodied guppies live longer, maybe 2 years or so. The ifga type strains peak out at 6 to 9 months and maybe live to be a little over a year.

    Great update...can't wait to see what those albino black moscow's end up being. Would be cool if males..I had 1 fry from my half black blues that was solid black. At first when I seen it I thought the darn thing was a black molly...it didn't make it past a week old...never did swim right. But it was solid jet black..and on the other hand I have different fingers too. lmao

    • @DGrey
      @DGrey  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Prior to black moscows, you couldn't have a fish that was solid black. They'd be cancerous and die. The color of moscows is different and full black fish are possible. I'm assuming the colors are on a different gene in moscows. I've obviously watched too much mystery science theater 3000 in my life.

    The Pingu male x Moscow female fry look at LOT like the Panda fry that just got dropped from my Panda pair. 😊 I'm very interested to see how both crosses work out!
    I'm considering using a Pingu female for a cross into my Panda male/Panda line. I feel that with using just the females and back crossing to Panda males it could add some size and genetics but not dilute things too much.
    And absolutely fascinating getting the Albino fry from the Black Moscows. It will be very interesting to see how they grow out and the offspring they and their siblings produce.

    • @DGrey
      @DGrey  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @ReneesZooTube
      @ReneesZooTube 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Chewy Ltd From what I understand, Panda is Moscow x Pingu. Also, I believe Moscow is sex linked male, so you need the Moscow Male to create the Black panda phenotype. But it depends on the genetics of the strains. I'm not sure about Pingu. I think it's Pink and Half Black, but beyond that I'm just not sure. I need to research it more.

    Talking about Moscow crosses Doug. Would you know if l breed a Purple Moscow to a HB Red Rosetail would that give me some HB Purples bonus would be with Rosetail. l heard it would just wondering if you know as l was going to set up a tank and try. And also plan to breed the Green Moscow in the same type of breeding to get HB Greens again bonus Rosetail. l believe it will but just wondering if you know.

    • @DGrey
      @DGrey  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for watching! I haven't tried anything with rosetails. If you use the purple moscow male that should be dominant. Crossing a moscow with an hb female might end up giving you some all black bodied males like I got with the moscow crosses. I have found that the colors with the crosses don't seem to give us the colors we'd expect as if we were mixing crayon colors. When I crossed a hb pastel to a blue delta I didn't get half black light blue, I got some hb males with a pastel tail and spots in it.

    How do you get rid of worms if you have them in you guppy's. Mine keep getting wasting disease

    • @DGrey
      @DGrey  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Scott. I think what happens is you get rid of the worms with the treatment and then the next round of them comes out. They must lay eggs inside the digestive tract and need to be treated again. I'd try the threatment you are using and then repeat it 2 weeks later. I've used the medicated flakes, it's easier.

    Albinism does occur on its own in nature. 20% is pretty high, but there may have been something going on with recessive genes in both parents, who are, after all, related. The mutation would have to have occurred in the grandparent generation or earlier.

    • @DGrey
      @DGrey  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As I said in a reply to another person's earlier comment, I have had this line for 12 years. This particular tank is the 1 where I've been working on getting the female dorsal fin much longer. There is probably a connection there somehow, no matter how odd it sounds.

      Thank you for watching! I use small tanks for crosses and also for new guppies I receive. Those are 2 & a 1/2 gallon tanks. For breeding trios or up to 3 pair of guppies I use 5 & a 1/2 gallon tanks. The grow out tanks are 10 gallons. I like the smaller tanks because the male has an easier time catching up to the females.
