  • ABOUT THIS VIDEO:
Hi. I'm Aki, a minimalist who is a school teacher living in a small village in Japan.
Today, I would like to share with you the best morning routine ever compared to my past morning routines.
In Japanese kanji, morning is written like this(朝)
If I break this kanji apart, it means 10 months and 10 days.
In Japanese culture, we say, babies are born within the 10th month of the 10th day.
So, in other words, morning represents a new birth.
If I think of it that way, it’s like we are reborn each morning and have a new start every day.
Don’t you think it’s important how you spend your mornings each day?
Well then, without further adieu, let’s get started.
    WHO AM I:
Welcome to samurai matcha journey! I'm Aki, a minimalist, kimono style school teacher in Japan. I make videos about my usual life in really country side of Japan. You can enjoy beautiful scenery, learn about Japan, and pick up some interesting lifestyle tips.
    PRODUCTS IN THIS VIDEO:
Many people have been asking me how to buy things that I use,
so I tried to find products that is the same or similar to my items on amazon in the USA and JPNAN. (Please ask yourself, “Does this spark joy?“ before buying it.)

I've always been "a night owl", but since I forced myself to get up early (usually 05-06:00), make the bed and go for a 30-60min walk I've started to feel a whole lot better. Proper routines is really really important, even though I've neglected it all my life until I discovered the worth.

Konnichiwa, Aki san. Watashi wa Canadajin eto I am 60 years old ~ but people ALWAYS tell me I look 40. Just by chance, I have been doing this routine for decades, simply because it felt good. A teacher in my high school in 1979 encouraged us to contribute to a charity but I preferred to buy shoes (!!) so I committed to picking up a bag of trash every day, instead. Over the years, I have done this, on average, 5 days a week. Imagine what I have picked up in 43 years! Friends laugh at me when I clean up beaches on vacation or when I stop the car, jump out, put on my gloves, and clean up the road side. I am a flight attendant and I do this on my layovers, all over the world. It is my gift to the planet and I feel great about it. Like you, I hear the items calling me - ha! I admire your choices and consider us kindred spirits ~ but you might laugh (or cry!) at my (ima wa, totemo ooki) shoe collection. Daigaku de Nihongo wo benkiyoshimasu. Arrigato gozaimasu. Your videos inspire me! Is fall your favourite season?!! ha.

I get up at 6:00 am, feed the dogs , have fruit for breakfast and then drive to my aquafit training at the pool. 1 hour later, I walk my dogs in a small forest for about 40 minutes. Then I tend to my garden. Since I am retired, I enjoy my active and natural lifestyle. I thoroughly enjoyed your video and give you thanks for it. Blessings from Canada.

I lived in Japan for a year and I loved the cleanliness of the culture. I prefer to clean at night before I go to bed. My house and body are clean so I feel that I get a better night's rest and when I wake up it gives me more time in the morning to workout. I love a cold shower to open my sense of being and usually helps with my alertness. This is a fantastic video for someone who wants to be more organized and productive.

*IM AN AUTHOR* I have been researching, testing and optimising my daily routine for about 8 years as part of my work *THIS ROUTINE IS ABOUT AS PERFECT AS YOU WILL GET*
Personally, I would not eat, one meal a day helps. Id walk before cleaning, the red light of sunrise is very beneficial, apart from that its PERFECT. Minimalist house, no clutter, sunlight, movement, cold shower, cleaning, ceremony [making tea], caffeine, gratitude, exercise, yoga, to-do today list ON PAPER, NO digital screes or music/podcasts for the first hour.

That’s why I admire the Japanese culture and people. They are really different than rest of the world. One trait which outshines is being thankful to nature or to the human beings who helped them in anyway and it is fantastic.
My Japanese friend Aya taught me that new thing of saying ”Itadakimasu” (頂きます) is the phrase Japanese people usually say before eating. It means “Thank you for the food” but literally translates as “I humbly receive this meal”. It is also a beautiful gesture of thanks & appreciation for everyone who helped in bringing that food to their table.
In Vedic Sanskrit there is a similar Mantra called Annapate:-
It is from Yajurveda. There is a similarity between the two and difference at the same time. The Japanese version is more thankful towards the human beings while the Vedic Mantra is sort of being thankful towards Ishwar or God. I think the later one includes everything because we all are creation of God. In my honest opinion very few people say this Vedic prayer & neither people are aware about it nor they say it in routine but the Japanese version “Itadakimasu” is short and sweet and easy to remember.
Nevertheless It’s a good practice to show gratitude and appreciation. I am impressed by the Japanese way of living a life.

❤Hi Mr Aki. Thank you very much. I am suffering from depression since my mother passed away last year. Now I want to change my life to be more positive and do more valuable things. I learned that I had to build good habits instead of a chaotic life before. I really want to cry when i see these things. Thank you very much ❤

Hi Aki, your habits are so inspiring. I bingewatched your videos. In fact, I would call what you're doing rituals, not routines. Do you know what I mean? Rituals are infused with meaning and attitude. I came to realise that what matters most in daily habits are not the habits themselves but the attitude we have when completing them, because this determine the value we get from it. For example, if you force yourself to practice tea ceremony because you think it's beneficial for you and "cool", the practice will be boring, unsustainable, and will have a low impact. But if you attach so much meaning, symbolism, mindfulness, awareness, magic like you do, it will be filled with pleasure and the habit will be elevated to the rank of Ritual rather than mere routine. I learned that I should also exercise not to get a great body, not out of Insecurity and Frustration, but because movement feels so great, out of Heart and Pleasure. It's all "body consciousness" like Wim Hof says. He exercises, take a shower, and then exercises again haha just because he loves the process. The reason why I love your video is because you approach your habits as rituals rather than routines. There are many youtuber showing off their routines in a robot-way and that seems dull and forceful and I think they're just delivering a wrong message on "perfect lifestyle". But when you present yours, I can see the wonders in your eyes and voice. What I'm achieving, and thanks to you, is to fill my actions with meaning and intent. You are a true inspiration and I love you for that. You remind me of the Peaceful Warrior, the one book that changed my life and if I ever met you it would be my gift to you. I wish you the best. Sad I discovered you after your trip to Europe. Best, and can't wait for the How to do Splits video. Michael from Lausanne, Switzerland!

I really like this routine! Parts of your routine are the same as mine. Every morning I make my bed, do yoga and meditation, take a walk, eat breakfast, write in my journal, take a warm bath, write out my to-do list, and write on my computer/work on my writing project (my job). I'm going to see where I can get myself to do more cleaning than making my bed. That would help me out. Thanks for sharing! I enjoy your videos. 🙂 Gassho, Julie (Shaku Ni Jun-ri)

I do a to do list it helps when you feel overwhelmed and dont know where to start. After the list is done I do one thing at a time until its done crossing off the chore is so satisfying. I need to improve my morning routine. I work till 1:00am every day so I have a hard time getting up early. If I try I can get to bed by 1:30 I can try to get up at 8:30 that would still be considered early for me then I can walk my dog who has more energy in the morning and would love to get out with me that early. Im going to try this.

Key to happiness is simple living, i.e. minimalism, I wish I discovered it much early in life. The more you have, the more effort is necessary, more problems. Evaluating everything using this equation 'Wants vs Needs' helps keep things checked.

It is fantastic to put a raw egg into the smoothie however, raw egg whites should be consumed only on occasion. Raw egg whites contain avidin, which interferes with absorption of biotin. They also contain trypsin inhibitors, which interfere protein digestion. These are anti nutrients but they are neutralized by light cooking.

Greetings, thank you for producing these videos, they’re very inspiring! When I shower I start with hot water & gradually cool the temperature down until I finish with a very quick blast of cold water. The warm water helps relax stiffness in my muscles after sleeping, then the cool water wakes me up & energizes me completely. I’m going to try & get up earlier per your recommendations, morning is my favorite time of day as well. Keep up the terrific work!

Michigan, USA here. I'm always using post it notes throughout the day to stay on task as well and clean at least one area in the morning before leaving for work (kitchen sink, bathtub, microwave etc.) It would be nice to walk at 5am but it's still so dark even at 6am unless it's July.
