I loved watching your decluttering... it's inspired me to dig out my Winter clothes and sort out my wardrobe. It is currently bursting and feels overwhelming!
What an interesting video Sally. I am hoping that I can do the same as you........with my entire house😂.I’m currently clearing the loft and I agree, it is so good for your mental health to declutter. I also agree about wearing older clothes in the house because you are ‘only in the house ‘ and you feel scruffy. It’s crazy. If we have nice lounge wear that’s what it is for. To lounge in. It’s good to hear your views about things. Great. I thoroughly enjoyed the video.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I'm also working through the house, I did the lounge on Friday but actually there's not much in there so it was far easier than the wardrobe x
Sally I live in Washington state, and my weather is just like yours, I sew so many summer things, but not enough winter items. Spring and summer is far more fun to sew for than winter 😂
My plan for this afternoon is to swop my wardrobes over and declutter. So you vlog has been very useful. I find it difficult to get rid of things. The mess while doing it all stresses me out. Thanks for your example.
I just discovered today that my winter basic (not knitted sweaters thankfully) have likely mistakenly been donated as they are nowhere to be found 😱 also were 95% handmade… so that’s one way to do it! I really enjoyed watching your declutter :)
Thanks for the motivation, I need to do mine but always end up overwhelmed and in a mess! I often have problems letting things go (for various reasons) even if I’m not wearing them so it was helpful to hear your thoughts on dealing with this 😊
I was having my wardrobe swap over as I watched yours Sally. I agree with so much of what you said. It does feel daunting and overwhelming and it is hard to get rid of favourite pieces even if you no longer wear them. Need more storage space!
I am so with you on the rubbish summer, I am also a summer person and that's not great living in the UK 😅 I also decided not to get rid of a lot of it hoping we have an awesome one next year !!! 🙏 You should try layering dresses for autumn, you have so many polonecks and l/s tees you, very made and cardigans. I wear 3/4 length leggings hidden underneath and then socks with shoes or boots. I love my dresses so the longer I can wear them the better, and I refuse to go full winter yet 😂😂 Thanks for sharing, enjoyed decluttering with you x
Thank you Sally. Declutterring is one of the jobs I need to do but never quite have the motivation for. I’m very impressed with how cohesive your wardrobe is. That’s something I aspire to. It’s strange how we get emotionally attached to our things isn’t it?
It's a horrible job but I love it when it's done, I can actually see my clothes. Funnily enough I have a hard time actually donating but I don't think I've ever regretted something I've given away. It must be something to do with the act or seeing it go... x
Oh Sally I wish you lived next door, then you could pop round and do mine !!!! It's Monday the 1st of October, it's pouring with rain and the perfect day to start de cluttering, so far I've only thought about it 😳 But thanks for allowing me to see how it's done !!!!
Hi Sally, do you know the trick with the reversed hangers? At the beginning of each season, turn all the hangers the wrong way round and then turn them the right way round once you wear an item. That way you can see what you're not wearing at all. You then have to be very rigorous when decluttering and simply let go of everything that hasn't been worn. I did this for several seasons and noticed something interesting: I wanted to "save’" some of the clothes that had been reversed for a very long time, so I wore them after all. I either liked them so much that I started to wear them more often or I immediately realised why I didn't like them and decluttered them straight away. Oh and for leggings I can highly recommend Calzedonia. I don't know if they have stores in the UK (they do here in Germany), but they also have an online shop. 😊
That’s really interesting I had heard of that technique but I haven’t actually tried it yet! Thank you for the leggings recommendation too I’ll see if I can look them up xx
I am very similar to you in what I like to wear for winter. I do like skirts and dresses once the weather warms up. I don't do a wardrobe swap over. I don't really have that many clothes but I do have a big walk in wardrobe. I also like to hang most of my clothes on matching hangers so I feel like I'm in a ritzy shop😊. Unfortunately hubby's side is a mess and ruins the look😅. If only we all had those huge wardrobes with a jewellery table in the middle. That is the dream😊.
It’s almost time for us in the Eastern US to make our wardrobe switch too. Thanks for the inspiration. When I go through this exercise, I like to have my color palette with me to help evaluate the cohesion of my wardrobe with my future sewing plans. Just curious as to why you didn’t have your color analysis out when going through this exercise.
In all honesty I actually didn’t think to have it for clothes I already own - how silly! I’ve been referring to it a lot for clothes I want to buy though and it was helpful to know that they two knits I bought in were in my colours xx
I have a wardrobe full of clothes that don't fit me, but I keep thinking I'm going to lose weight and fit into them again. If I just put in my wardrobe what I wash and wear, my wardrobe would be mostly empty 😳
You would feel so good if you put those items in a bin in temporary storage, and then have only things that fit. There would be space for a few new things that could really work for right now.
I agree! Maybe put them in the loft or in storage until you are there or if you don't get there, that's fine too you can embrace your current body shape without having the guilt of the old clothes xx
Good video. Very thorough. I need to do similar. I’m always short of time. One of my issues is that my hobbies , apart from sewing and photography , are quite mucky so gardening and painting and I wear clothes accordingly L. I even started making a merchant and mills boiler suit earlier in the year in order that I could perform mucky chores and protect my clothes. I have yet to finish that. It had a multitude of pattern pieces and I had a SOH failure cutting out. Now I need to finish it. I’m on a weight loss journey too so yesterday I wore a lovely linen Remy raglan now too big. Another but nice problem. I need to get my act together so thanks for the push. I tapped through the serious readers ad sorry. I can’t afford them. Have a good week . Interesting question for you…. Does your husband have a lot of clothes? Mine does Today my mucky job is to remove fox poo from my garden and drive both of which are large. Don’t know why they are visiting but need to deter them somehow. I know you are thinking, she knows how to LIVE. X
Lifestyle is such a big thing in terms of planning and streamlining a wardrobe isn't it. My husband does have a lot of clothes and he doesn't like to declutter very often, not like me who can't stand clutter haha. I hope you enjoyed your day yesterday xx
@@SecretLifeOfASeamstress I have a wall plug-in one and it's great. I tried a newer/cheap battery powered one but it was useless. Fairly quick to use and doesn't stretch the fabric on knitwear.

I’m glad it’s inspired you! Good luck 😉 xx
I enjoy decluttering and organizing videos, particularly those regarding clothing. I too find them weirdly calming and very inspiring!
I’m glad I’m not the only one 💕😆
Really enjoyed this video and i now feel inspired to do this myself
Thank you
Thank you I’m glad you enjoyed it xx

Oh no! You’re right though, no time for sentimentality there 😂 I hope there wasn’t too much in there that you’ll miss x
😱

It's hard! I set aside a whole day for this and it was exhausting haha! Mentally and physically lol x

Ah we did it together :) I do need more storage space however then I would hoard more haha x
@@SecretLifeOfASeamstress yes I would hoard more too! Wouldn’t it be so much more fun if we could wardrobe sort as a group 🤣🤣

Ah it was rubbish wasn't it! Yes, I should give it a try, to be honest a lot of items of clothes sometimes feels like a lot of effort lol x
I had the same thought about my loungewear yesterday. It’s had its day but I struggle to get rid of it.
I'm glad I'm not the only one x

I need to also do that. However, our fall weather has been in the 80s, 20 degrees F., too warm, but lovely.
Ah how lovely! Enjoy while it lasts x
Well done, now it’s my turn!
Good luck! Thanks for watching xx

Sally you have a kindred spirit, colour wise, in Janelle of Rosery Apparel in Tasmania. 😂Margaret in Oz
Haha yes I do love her colour choices x

Before or after lol! Xx

Do you have a fabric shaver? They remove the pilling/bobbly bits that form on fabrics.
I have a cashmere comb but I have been thinking about getting a mechanical one. Would you recommend one? X

Could you wear a cozy polo neck under the fat face top as it is autumnal colours ?
Yes that’s an option thank you xx
What is the cropped jacket you had on in your try on portion?
It's my Smith Jacket by Style Arc. It's awaiting buttons and I'll share it properly x
Tons of people wear their scruffies for PJ's . I always think I would like to wear something nice because of the other people in my home :)
That's a good way to think about it I think xx
