    Glad to see there's still people out here fixing these 360s. When I was in middle school I used to buy big lots of broken 360s on ebay and clean them out/fix them. Lots of fun! Kinda wanna start doing that again

    DKOldies should take note on how a “refurbished” system should look like.

    First, this is an EXCELLENT tutorial video on disassembly and complete cleaning of an Xbox 360 system. I highly recommend watching it. But as a former computer repair tech, I'd offer a couple of tips. Obtain a static wrist strip that can be grounded and wear it CONSTANTLY when touching or handling any computer components. Static electricity discharge can damage sensitive components. Buy and use a can of electronics cleaning spray. Much easier for hard to reach spots and it is formulated to be safe for all types of electronics. Thanks for sharing this video!

      Good day to you!
      I have a question if you don't mind.
      When replacing capacitors on video game consoles, both on the main board and the power supply, is it necessary to discharge them before removal? Im assuming its more important for power supplies but is it necessary for gaming consoles? Is the voltage high enough to cause electric shock or damage the rest of the console when desoldering?
      What's your opinion. I appreciate your time.

    • @JooshMaGoosh
      @JooshMaGoosh ปีที่แล้ว

      @@matthewsano6006doubt there enough voltage/amperage (not an electrician) in em to do any damage to you personally. Though I would heed caution and do what you suggested as damaging the motherboard is probably a high possibility.

      @@mitch1256yeah I had one guy recommend one to me when I was doing a refurb and I just told him I'm good. He was livid.... to this day though I've never used one or needed one after.

    Nice job. I always liked the ones with the white disc tray rather than the chrome.
    Just looks cleaner, I think.

    Here's a tip that might sound bad but it works great and I've done it to many 360's. Once you unclip the front clips, you should slowing pry the 2 shells apart until they come apart. I know what you're thinking. "No that's a terrible idea it'll break" but like I said I've done it so many times and I've only cracked (not completely broke) 1 clip 2 different times out of doing this to about 30 or 40 360's so as long as you do it carefully and slowly it'll easily and efficiently get the job done. And yes it makes a loud snapping sound but like I said it's a really good method and also make sure the console doesn't go flying once it comes apart. A great way to do this is put a towel down on your bed/couch or other soft surface and then put the fan side down on the towel and then begin prying. And of course you don't need to use a towel but it's recommended if you don't want dust on your bed/couch

    I just bought another 360 for a few bucks. This one works but is very loud. I'll follow your tutorial and service it. Although I have another 2, which I have some experience disassembling. Might salvage them for parts for the working one.

    Beautiful work. You made it look easy.
    Only suggestion I have is to switch up the background throughout the video if you're ever doing a longer-form tutorial again. The same song over and over again was starting to drive me crazy haha

    I really enjoyed your video And how thorough you were with the cleaning. I've taken quite a few 360s apart myself And I always couldn't help thinking if the X-clamps were applying enough force down on the CPU and GPU. I know GameStop refurbishing at one point did away with the Xclamps and went with like a nut and bolt type solution to tighten them down more in an effort to help the red ring of death problem. Because essentially the red ring of death is the cracking of some of those balls in the BGA.
    I know nothing is a permanent solution to the red ring problem but maybe some more tension was on the right track to extend the life if you will.

    • @Wildsamsquanch7
      @Wildsamsquanch7  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for checking out the video. I've worked on one of the GameStop consoles that have screws in place of the Xclamps. I believe they also fabricated a harness that kept the fans running on high. That said, I've heard different opinions on if this actually helped or not. Regardless, the Xbox 360 is an amazing console, but suffers from a high failure rate unfortunately.

    8:32 I can tell that your GPU is super reliable. Yours is a GPU-Rhea made in Korea and the numbers X816971 on the bottom of the chip indicate that the GPU is a fixed one. Lucky you! Your system should never red ring.

    • @DJShawnyD
      @DJShawnyD 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It’s a DVD movie containing MGS4 footage that he was testing, not the actual game which was never released on 360. Kojima would be proud of this next-level trolling..🤣

    So I got a xbox 360 with the zephyr motherboard for nothing at all and I think I have the same issue really loud fans and spins fast so I took it apart and saw the heatsinks clogged with dust and all over the motherboard cleaned it up and tested it out for the heck of it to see if it just couldn't breath and still really loud fast fans I don't have thermal paste at all so I didn't go that far nor have I replaced it before so I'm guessing that needs to be replaced.

      @FunningRast
      Well to be perfectly honest, in my humble opinion, of course without offending anyone who thinks differently from my point of view, but also by looking into this matter in a different perspective and without being condemning of one's view's and by trying to make it objectified, and by considering each and every one's valid opinion, I honestly believe that I completely forgot what I was going to say.
      But thanks for checking out the video!

    Cool video ! I tried same but now XBOX gives me an electrical shortcut and gives red circle .. If I remove mainboard from the metal plate it's working.. i'm wondering why you don't have the 4 white squares heatsink at the rearside of motherboard ?
    Now I need to find a way to have a proper starting X360 ^^

    • @Wildsamsquanch7

      Well the fan was obnoxiously loud in this case, but the risk would be fan failure causing overheating. Thanks for watching!
