I see him most often rewatching 70's Columbo.
He was in 2 of them.
If you haven't seen them you should.

Patrick McGoohan was simply awesome. Wish I could have seen him on stage. And McGoohan and Peter Falk were excellent together. Some of their Columbo scenes were priceless!

Among other strange statements - missile base locations in our open-country US were public knowledge and didn’t require satellites for the Soviets to locate.

Indeed. In fact I knew a Russian spy in the UK whose job it was to spy on British nuclear subs. MI5 knew he was there. In fact they liked to visit him regularly and check his log books to.make sure he was doing a good job.
You see, it was in our interests for the KGB to know we really had nukes and at least one was at sea at all times.

There is a great scene in the movie The Right Stuff where Lyndon Johnson asks if the Russians are going to beat us to the moon and the man says "No, our Germans are better than their Germans."

I suspect that Alistair MacLean had Patrick McGoohan in mind when he drafted his book. Frank Sturgis certainly made the part for him after The Prisoner.

Actually, McGoohan was still working on The Prisoner when this film was being made.

All that was needed at the end was McGoohan waving goodbye to Ernie Borgnine and saying "Be seeing you!"

Best scene in the whole film, I wish it extended to where McGoohan explains how the sattelite ended up at Zebra. I'd love to see a remake with, say, Daniel Craig or Russell Crowe in the McGoohan role.

Yes, very true, but Clooney is good at plying military types. Just my opinion. Robert Downey Jr. or Bradley Cooper would also be good choices
