My concern is living in AZ where things are cut off from life due to being a pump user. I get little feedback about how well a T:Slim, OmniPod, Medtronic, etc are in the heat. Better to be safe than pumping the equivalent of saline solution or water. I had an issue where Frio would never refund a purchase when it didn't work. That was a long time ago and I hope their customer service has improved, nonetheless I don't know how far it could survive in Arizona. So the best and final round for me has been the insulated stainless steel water bottles. Your mention of adding a refrigerating USB top is a new hope. I have insulin pens and a cold gel or cooling rod in one of these water bottles to keep things safe if you are travelling with supplies or are on multiple daily injections. Medicool used to work great, but TSA wanted it frozen as I noted I couldn't freeze my insulin and they just didn't get people's lives. As finally for the TSA, 😢 it was heartbreaking again to hear about it being more difficult to live with a disability and their untrained, unethical theatre on diabetes and sometimes feeling like certain people are singled out. It is awful and sad, when things need to stay sterile and cold and all they can think about is how much water isn't frozen, for example, to the patting down of some people who are diabetic. TSA Cares helps, but sometimes it fails too winding up having all your supplies removed without regard for sterility.
For day-to-day use I carry my Inpen in the VIVI Cap by TempraMed. Being male and not carrying a purse this works well for me as it seems to keep my insulin cool here in very hot Texas 😁.
Nice review. For the bio gels it works in reverse as well. If out in the cold for a long time, hikes, skiing, camping. Use the bio gels starting at room temperature. While the bio gels freeze it will keep the temp at 36 F.
In a hotel for extended periods, I also don't trust a mini fridge. So I go to Wal mart get their mini fridge for about 30 bucks and keep it plugged in, keeps temp about 40 degrees. At the end of my hotel stay, I just give the mini fridge away to a cleaning person so I don't have to pack and take it back with me. For day trips I use a small cooler bag with a frozen chemical pack, I have two so one is left in the freezer while I am using the other. Also keep the pen in a container so no direct contact with ice pack. Love your little mini USB fridge, couple that with a small battery pack and wa la, we are good to go for even over night trips. Also at home I keep the insulin on the door interior so little to no risk of freezing. Stay healthy out there my diabetic friends.
Thanks for this information, Exploring different methods, And probably you’ve answered a question, when I get a fresh new filled pen, I put it in my zip up pouch inside this pouch it’s got plastic foil inside, every time I use the pen I put it back zipped up always, but my Lantus lasts around 35days of use until empty plus I don’t know if you can smell insulin, when it’s freshly out of the fridge once you have done your recommended units, the insulin smells really strong like sometimes like in a hospital, but as time goes by the insulin is not so potent….. is this because I don’t fridge my insulin??? There are different insulins out there also… Thanks for the video once again a lot of stuff you have found out no one ever tells you, anyway thank you as I’m a new diabetic since 2021 I think you have mastered your by now👍🏻🙏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I’m so glad my channel is helpful. I believe the reason why insulin loses potency over time is related to it being exposed to air. Insulin is fairly fragile which is also why you can’t store it for long in a plastic container
Has anyone tried the VIVI-Cap by Tempramed? I use mine ALL THE TIME in my small bag. It is a little pricey, but very compact. I have never had any issues with my insulin (only 2 years, so far). The other day, I left my bag with my insulin in the hot car. When I took it out, the part of the pen sticking out of the VIVI Cap was warm, but the part with the insulin was a normal temperature. It could get pricey if you need a lot, but for those who only need to carry 1 or 2 pens, I think you will like it.
@@DiabetesStrong I think it fits most brands of prefilled insulin pens. The thing I love about it is that there is no preparation (soaking in water) or need for electricity.
Hi Christel do you always keep your fast acting cold?? I love the pouches.. Also are you still taking levimer ?? I heard they are discontinuing in usa😮.. love your channel ❤
Thank you 😊 If I bring my insulin with me (long or short acting) and it’s really hot out I’ll keep it in a pouch/cooler. At home I leave the insulin I’m using at room temperature. And yes, Levemir is being discontinued 😢 I still have enough for a few months but will be trying out Basaglar
Hello. Do you know of a lancing device that produces A LOT of blood? I have a cholesterol meter that requires a really BIG drop/amount of blood to work. Thanks
Most lancing devices can be set to poke at different depths. I would try and massage your finger first, try a deeper setting, and see if that solves it. If that doesn’t work, or it becomes painful you can look at Genteel. I made a video about that a long time ago: th-cam.com/video/UVvgmGNDxkY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=HOuSmndJIrEXtYJW
Do you keep your InPen in the 4AllFamily coolers, including the mini fridge? I live in the Midwest, and we have hot summers, and we are outdoors people. I’m just worried that my 4AllFamily cooler and mini fridge will ruin my InPen. I’d love to hear your experience with this. 😊
I do, haven’t had an issue. I have seen that Frio sells an inner pouch that is supposed to keep electronics, and InPen safe when you use a cooling pouch. If you’re interested I can see if I can find that for you
Becky here - thanks to you, I learned about the Frio system. I used it last September at Disney World. Worked great!
Wonderful!
I have the the 4 All Family one that comes in the box and I love it. mine is blue.

Very useful, I am using the cooling pouch when I go to office. I think it handles 12hrs normal temperature in Indian climate.
Glad it’s working well for you too

They say it can hold 8 10 ml insulin vials
Hey are humalog vials cheaper than catridge?
I see you are using Afrezza inhaled insulin. I would like more information on keeping it cool as well as general usage tips. I love Afrezza .

You can use them for insulin vials as well. All but the small 4AllFamily cooler should fit vial as well
