I was diagnosed the first part of November last year. I was a bit overweight, but nothing huge, but I ate whatever I wanted to for quite a few years. I worked hard (yard work and things like that) probably 4 days a week. I am here to tell you, yard work isn't the same as getting your heart rate up. I'm embarrassed to say this, but at the time of my diagnosis may A1C was 15 and my glucose was nearly 500. I was told there is no explanation as to why I didn't have a heart attack or stroke. I immediately started insulin shots along with the Metformin that I had taken for a few years. Taking shots everyday for the rest of my life didn't seem too appealing to me. I was told by more that one person that used insulin, that once you started, there was no getting off of it. I immediately started cutting carbs and sugars and started walking 2 - 4 miles every single day. Long story short, I stopped insulin about 2 weeks before Christmas last year and this past July was taken completely off Metformin. Move more is the most important thing you can do. It's amazing how exercise and a healthy diet can change the way that you feel! Btw...I'm 63 years old. I apologize for the long comment...
My strategy as a T2D was to cut back on carbs a lot. Then after doing that for about 3 months I slowly introduced more carbs again. I totally ignore the ADA, they just want you to stay diabetic for life.
Love the video!! Are you going to do a video on your insulin change on your Long acting insulin ?? would love to see that as a Video on how the transition goes. very much a part of our type one lives . Appreciate these videos ❤❤
Over the past week, I have made a significant effort to hit 10,000 steps a day. I’ve also added in some stair climbing and light weights for my upper body. The effect is immediate. My insulin sensitivity has clearly gone up because I’m going hypo after almost every meal now! I’m still trying to dial in my new bolus doses and I:C ratio.
Hi i crystal, im 44 male diagnosed pre and them type 2 5 yrs ago , i tried all the diets , first keto then carnivore and its lowered my blood sugar but i was not able to sustain it felt miserable and tieed all day , then i tried vegan and that diet really brought my fasring glucose down to 90 i was basically cured doing plant based no meat but after 3 months i felt weak and couldnt exersise so i finally gave up and decided to just follow the ada guidelines and just count my carbs ,well guess what it worked and its so much easier to sustain simply counting carbs i eat about 100 carbs a day , lost wieght blood sugars close to normal and have energy to exercise so my advice is follow the ada they know what they are talking about and be careful with fad diets
@@DiabetesStrong thank you for all your help also, you do so much for the diabetic community on here and I've learned a lot from your videos! you are really beautiful to btw 😘I always wondered what your ethnicity was ? I'm thinking Hispanic or indian?
Can you tell me how old you were when finding out about being type 1 diabetic? My cousin says to be type 1 means you are born with it. I’m not sure if this is true.
I was 19 years old. About 50% are now older than 21 when they get diagnosed. It being called juvenile diabetes is misleading. And there definitely seem to be a genetic component
8:44 🤣🤣i have a firm bedtime.. 5am … wake at 10-11am back to work at 130pm.. to work my 3pm to 3 am shift.. 8hrs of sleep and exercise? Nope.. aint happenin

I recently started practicing mindfulness. It's difficult to grasp at first but it makes a huge difference in controlling mental stress.
Hello Christel, look forward to your videos. Ty for continuing to help both types of diabetes!
Thank you for watching 🙂
My strategy as a T2D was to cut back on carbs a lot. Then after doing that for about 3 months I slowly introduced more carbs again. I totally ignore the ADA, they just want you to stay diabetic for life.
Glad that worked for you
Thank you as always for all of your very helpful information!
Thank you
Very good vídeo.
I would add a 5th hint to the list....drink water ...at least 1.5 lt a day.
Thanks for what you do.

Madam,, I tried but my glucose level remains 150 aroynd if eat or not ?? Why
You might be insulin deficient. If that’s the case (and only a blood test can confirm this) you’ll need medication to lower your blood sugars

@@DiabetesStrong I understand, but its not, the adds, as annoying as they are; it's peoples comments below. Its rather weird.
Good sleep = no alcohol, read a paperback book before bed, exercise daily, magnesium supplement, eat 2-4 hours before bed
Plus natural morning sunlight.
Ridiculous
