I just watched a video from 1980 by Scott Liddell, number 34 of 36, the content of the tutorial was explaining a catalog with a variety of products all having the ILY handshape on it, I remember some time ago someone tried to corner the market on that, but it was older than they were, that-Thaaat~
The first sign I learned from context was "Twin", because redundancy, sister, brother, 1 minute older, oh, it explained the sign I was unfamiliar with, perfect~ Another redundancy is this, I put allll the youtube ASL teachers in my list of channels, super redundancy, learn from many hands, complete that language bridge, if I learn from only one hand, then other hands are still outside of my receptive range, because I didn't practice on those hands yet, it makes a difference, redundancy~
Also, many ASL students tend always sit on right side of room, why? see teacher's thumb, the ASL map isn't developed enough in their brain yet where they can see through objects, fill in the blanks, until they can do that, they are better off sitting with best view of thumb, again, it make a difference~
Recently at my work, we use the word redundancy to it a bit more of a negative connotation than the examples given here, like “we are abolishing a position to reduce redundancies”. So in that case some signing something like “OVERLAP WORK” might work, or at least a spot to expand, people doing the same job, needlessly.
I had a client sign the (fist behind fist) and his meaning for that was behind the back, hidden agenda, ulterior motive, something to that effect. We were trying to figure out the best English translation for it.
Hi! Thx for comment! Would need to see in context...but that is another meaning set for that sign depending on context, facial grammar etc... I like your ideas of ulterior motive, hidden agenda, real motivation, what was behind it...etc... Have a super week/end ahead! I'm going camping...how about you? Have to enjoy these summer weekends!!! Take care ~SH
