if it's true that paul came up with much of their choreography, i have to give him a lot of credit! whoever choregraphed this number deserves endless applause!
Well, then you need to study up on the Temptations. Paul was the reason the Temptations were dancers in the first place. He was the original lead singer, choreographer, and driving force behind the Temptations. He was the Heart and Soul of the Temptations, personified. There are two Temptations biographies you should read: "Temptations", by Otis Williams, and "Ain't Too Proud to Beg...." by Mark Ribowsky. Check it Out! Ciao!!!
I agree, Paul had them doing some enerjectic stuff. Quite different from what the so called dance teacher had them doing. I personally liked what Paul had them doing. As they were quite ahead of most groups and just had a mystique about them that is so apparent.
Yes! Paul was number one, but people tend to overlook Melvin. He was effortless too, and always enjoyed himself out there, always smiling. David was a natural too, but collectively, Paul, and Melvin were the two out front "throwing it down". Check it Out! Ciao!!!
He was so rhythmatic, So cool! When I first saw this show I knew that guy had that it quality. That even other grown men would indulate. The man is a beast.
Almost the greatest you can't forget The Unifics singers and dancers extrodnaire,,if you ever saw them live like David Ruffin did you would know what I'm talking about especially at the Apollo.
Enjoy this Temptations Look while you can because never again will you see The Tempts dressed so casually. The Temptations had not yet had a Top 40 Hit and the sudden success of "...the Things You Do" caught them off-guard. Baritone/Choreographer Paul Williams choreographed this routine for the Tempts in 35 minutes
This is also when they All still wore processed hair, particularly Paul, at the same time. By the time "My Girl" hit number one, a year later, they began to change their individual looks. The Classic Five! Check it Out! Ciao!!!
Paul also choreographed the routine for "Get Ready" in 35 minutes. He also created the famous "Stop, In The Name Of Love" trademark hand routine for the Supremes. Check It Out! Ciao!!!
The Tempting Temptations! They had the whole package and they were hungry too. Eddie killing that lead vocal and fellas went nuts in that classic doo wop style.. Wow!
If you look real close in this video behind the Tempts, you find Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles and facing the Tempts sitting on a chair though her face not seen was Mary Wells! Interestingly enough, at this time, Otis Williams and Patti LaBelle were dating and Mary Wells and David Ruffin were seeing each other as well! Also, you can see Murray The K dancing too!
They always had the flashy suits, even when Eddie Kendricks & Paul Williams were in The Primes, Otis Williams & Melvin Franklin in The Distants, etc.. which was how all vocal groups dressed, going back to Doo Wop & groups like The Monotones, The Cadillacs, etc. Here they 'dressed down' cause it's not the Ed Sullivan Show, it was a more informal show, a sort of Beat thing, with a live band behind them, the audience very close, they're improvising (Kendricks' ad-lib at the end is phenomenal), etc.
He didn't flub the step. He was in the center, so he didn't spin like Paul, and Melvin. He, and David stepped back from the mic, during the end of the break, and then they all reconvened for the last verse. You don't blow that simple part of the routine, after hours of practice. Check it Out! Ciao!!!
hahaha 1:33 definitely a flub. Melvin, David and Paul dipped one last time and Otis didn't. if you watch any other videos of them doing this song you'll see he came up one time too early before going to the mic on this one. th-cam.com/video/iG38kyraN7Q/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/YKHiMXdqAxI/w-d-xo.html
This is from the Murray the K special "It's What's Happening" from June 28, 1965 and can be found on The Temptations Get Ready: Definitive Performances 1965-1972 DVD Check out their moves (especially at 1:02, which was as fast and smooth as Muhammad Ali's Phantom Punch) and you can see how they set the standard for everyone else who followed . . .
The Temptations Were Classy... Their Music Was Fantastic... Their Dancing Was so Cool... & They Will Always be Remembered...! A Hundred Years From Now... People Will Still Be Listening to Them...! My Favourite Temps Song... Is the Hauntingly Beautiful... "Just My Imagination"... It Still Sends Chills Up & Down My Spine...!!!
I wasn't born yet but I enjoy the singing. I can hear the 4 part harmonies and lead vocals very clear. This is what real singing is about. The band is also tight to. You don't get true vocalist except on satellite radio. My era is the mid 90's to 2K Neo Soul era which is remeniscent of the 60's r&b.
Get the same recording on the "Temptations Definitive Petformances 1964-'73 DVD" That's the crystal clear version this upload was taken from. I Guarantee, You WON'T be dissapointed! Check it Out! Ciao!!!
There will never be another group like this one! Still love you 2019! I love this I don't know where they were but it's cool their career was just getting cranked UP 😎😎

I just realized that’s what made the temptations the best. Singing and the choreography. They are the best group of the 60s. Too bad their rain couldn’t last for 10 years.
YES LAMB!! smooth temps!! GET IT Otis, Paul, Blue, & David!! Eddie's voice is so delightful. i watch this video countless times & have the moves down lol. Thanks so much posting
You and I both LOVE this video. The "newness" of their success you can almost feel it yourself! I know the choreography too! Lol! I miss music like this.....
@@laquitaagbi475 Now this is Paul's choreography. He had them more into movement. My Girl and that choreographer they were oppointed for crossover appeal changed them completely.
That was their first hit. So it's not really before but around the time they were rising. This particular performance was already a part of a Motown tour so yeah they were already making money. This was before "My Girl" though.
I had to look this up just now while UB40 is singing a cover on sirius radio. An old cover but still, it threw me off so bad. I knew I had heard it before somewhere but couldn't remember where!

There's no if,Paul was an extremely talented dancer and teacher. Can't you tell?
And, where did Cholly Atkins come in?

I just noticed that David Ruffin whistles into the mic before the dance routine.Brilliant!
I believe David is taking Eddie’s place as falsetto in the background
really! david was like a songbird and eddie too! gone too soon! still loved! 💔
and missed, Blu, and paul
@@061romellcorrect, David would take 1st tenor when sang lead, Paul 2nd tenor and Otis baritone however Paul and Otis would swap depending on the song
The first minute with Paul Williams and his choreography is just simply amazing!!
THE TEMPS!, Baa-by!!!💓 love their geeky Cool-azz moves too!!!😘
I agree, Paul had them doing some enerjectic stuff. Quite different from what the so called dance teacher had them doing. I personally liked what Paul had them doing. As they were quite ahead of most groups and just had a mystique about them that is so apparent.
The Gold Standard, of male harmonizing, and choreography. Always polished!
Pauls moves. He's my fav. Eddie voice so sweet and skin popping
Melvin and Paul were awesome dancers.....💙 The Mighty Temps.💙🎤

Eddie was the MAN. with that smooth awesome voice .Could listen to him for hours.😍🎤💙👍
yes he had a beautiful 😍 voice too bad
him and david couldn't have sung together earlier they were dynamic!
Very smooth and I love the band in the background too how the music rises up at 0:43😅
WoW Melvin is really rocking it with his Dance Techniques on this one. LoL. Love It. 💙😍
Melvin was second, only to Paul, in the dance department. Effortless, and having Fun! Check it Out! Ciao!!!
They killed it. They took it there. That is a team effort.
Ruffin was killing it with the dance moves. He was looking good in this performance.
yes 💋 he was Baby! he was flashy and Flaunty !
Eddie sounded just as good live as he did recorded. The man's voice was pure magic.
Eddie was so beautiful. Love the temptations.
Eddies bone structure is everything
he was very Handsome
Watch David Ruffin move. Have you aever seen anything so fluid? He was so full of rhythm and song. RIP
He was so rhythmatic, So cool! When I first saw this show I knew that guy had that it quality. That even other grown men would indulate. The man is a beast.
It think because he's such an impactful front man that people tend to mission great of a dancer David was.
he could really dance didnt no one have to show him or Paul especially
The greatest singing group ever.
This might possibly be true.
Almost the greatest you can't forget The Unifics singers and dancers extrodnaire,,if you ever saw them live like David Ruffin did you would know what I'm talking about especially at the Apollo.
Yes snakeman227, the greatest bar none, 5 leads plus tightest harmonies plus the best showmen on stage. Their albums were fire also.Incomparable.
robert bright Simply put, it is and will always be the Temptations and the rest of them!
Paul Williams was the best dancer in the group.
David Ruffin was one of the greatest singers EVER !

renaissanceman165 Melvin has his natural hair here and so does Paul. David, Eddie, and Otis though still had the processed hair.
The Temptations had two of the best singers of all times the best bass singer in the best dance choreographer in Paul Williams what else can I say?
Also the best song writers behind them?
I LOVED The Four Tops, but, these dudes had THE MOVES! Fantastic choreography!!! :) xoxo

Those routines looked like a killer workout. I'm out of breath just looking at them.

LOL.
Reginald Dorsey Thats why they were so skinny, Lol.

David Ruffin was the epitome of "COOL"!!
