Plenty of videos showing features, but we just want to hear it!!! When I got mine I looked up this video again and copied the settings and got exactly the same tones. This video was a blast to make with John and so stoked that people get the sense of hanging out with John in the Tone Lounge like we hoped. It's what it felt like when it was happening! Thanks again and keep rockin' the MK25! :D
Hi Andrew Engle - You can see the Crunch settings pretty well at 4:10. A few things to keep in mind when comparing tones to this video (or any video): The cabinet and speaker make a huge difference (not sure what cab(s) you're using). Second, guitar and pickups make a HUGE difference. Third, this video reflects the amp being turned up fairly loud - not sure if you're able to get the amp turned up to comparable volumes opr not? Finally (and maybe most importantly, John's technique is WORLD CLASS and the player's hands make a HUGE difference in the overall accuracy, tone and even amount of gain that you hear based on how they attack and approach their instrument, plus the other things mentioned above. The gain is in there - just a few other variables to consider. Hope this helps and thanks for watching! Let us know if you have any other questions.
MESA/Boogie holy shart. I have a mesa recto 2x12 brand new for cab and jem 7v guitar. but anyway I got home and tried the settings in the vid. holy furgggggggetti it smoked my arse. that opened up the crunch channel so much it sounds better than the vid. hahahahaha loving this monster. anyone buying this: try the settings on this vid for the crunch. im using the settings seen at around 10 minutes in this vid. turning it up louder made all the difference in the world and its only at 10:00. my neighbors are pissed but me so happy I don't live in city limits. I played the heavy riff from (pull me under) like 12 times. lol and yes mesa dude I understand john uses amazing power chords and has palm muting genius but so do I. lol that's why I wanted this amp because when I first heard dream theatre I though someone recorded me playing (except the blistering fast passes).
HAHAHAHA andrewsfury - This comment RULES! Glad you're finding some great tones now. Anytime you can turn it up it's probably a good thing. Keep on rockin' out and thanks for the kind words! :D
This was a really cool demo. It's great to see the kid in a candy store look on Johns face as he was playing and the sense of pride Randall showed demonstrating his baby. I love my Mark V but this amp sounds incredible.
Ive owned and used this amp for around 9 years and still love it to this day. SO versatile and dynamic. For me its biggest strength is how tight the distortion can be with a good cabinet, as well as the FX loop. Wonderful amp that I will continue to use!
Wow - that is a monster sounding amp. Chappers & I have a video going up on this amp soon - we both really liked it, but I'm not sure we sounded as good as Petrucci does!! Must be something in the fingers!!!
This Video made me smile! His tone and playing is simply amazing and the mesa guys are so kind. Thanks for sharing this awesome video with us +MESA/Boogie
Just ordered a mark v 25 because I cant bear to bring my 40th anniversary mark v out of the house #72 0f 75, It is just too beautiful to get scratched. My father has been playing an SOB combo since 86, I hope to pass down the mesa tradition someday. keep up the great work. You people are truly innovators .
i was a Marshall devotee for years until i tried a mesa myself and explored it thoroughly and i can safely say now they sing like angels and have unduplicatable tones, meaning "no other amp does what a mesa does" and it does it very, very well.
I'm an English guy that moved to California but my love for Marshall didn't die. What I got from the EL84's in Mark II+ mode, when I'm in a practice room otherwise the neighbors would definitely call the cops, is when the master volume goes past 1 o'clock you get that Michael Schenker on "One Night at Budokan" lead tone. The saturation is just so nice and full. You can replicate it at lower volume levels in Mark IV mode but getting the power tubes working is always a treat. The one and only thing I don't like about this amp is simple. It is way, way louder than a 25 watt amp should ever be. Great if you're gigging in small places, if you buy it to crank it at home you're kinda screwed. LOL. But it does sound great without the power stage being driven! It packs as much punch as my old Marshall Super Lead 50w head and those ain't exactly quiet for their 50 watt rating. In fact, the Mark V 25 did the Super Lead thing so well that I sold my Marshall. Mini EL's for the win!
I know right! Selling my Marshall JCM2000 TSL100 and Orange Dark terror for one of these and a rectifier 2x13 cab. I've tried it with other cabs but nothing compares to the Mesa cab
Cool to see that the guys who are working are massive gear nerds like the rest of us! Nothing like passion, and it definitely shows when you play a Mesa Boogie!
I already saw this video ten times... I love to see how it's works well, how amazing the variation of the sound. A little move on the knob and everything changes. I simply love MESA Boogie.
I purchased this amp a year ago and yesterday I finally got my hands on a majesty and let me tell you.... What you hear here is what you get... This amp and that guitar
A brand with gorgeous sounding amp and they also read every comments and answer the questions. You really deserve everything you have and you will have. This summer i went a Dream Theater concert and the sound Petrucci has was incredible. I cannot explain it with words. Even he play only E5 chord through all concert, we listen to him. We are so glad to listen these kind of amazing sounds. Thank you! Still my favourite higain amp 5150:)
I just bought a different amp that I had wanted for a while, and you guys come up with this beast. I guess I'll be filing for bankruptcy this fiscal year.
+1999beachboy To be perfectly honest here, I actually travelled forward in time to steal the idea from the other top commenter and then went back to post it before him ;-)
I played on a Mesa Single Rec. at an hourly studio and I was seriously blown away. They know what they're doing; if I weren't such a huge Peavey nut Mesa would be my go to brand.
Absolutely love the peek behind the curtain at the wizards behind the magic!!! This vid will surely make you want one of these beautiful little 25 watt beast!!!
I own this amp and can't say enough good things about it. When I first got it, it sounds ehh not so good. I learned how use it(Mesa learning curve), and I still wasn't happy. Contacted Mesa and resolved the issue in 30 minutes..had a preamp tube that wasn't seated well from shipping. Now it blows me away. It really does sound this awesome..but you won't because you're not John Petrucci.
@@PandaSharpener You can get some nice meaty tones at very reasonable volumes but don't let the size of the amp or the mere 25 watt rating fool you. This feisty little bastard feels as loud as an old Marshall 50 watt Super Lead when you get the master past 2 oclock. To get the best of it you do need to get the master up past 11oclock (IMHO) but at lower volumes it's still fantastic. I hear the 35W version is a little more versatile and in 25W mode has a bit more spank to it due to the bigger transformer. It also has the 'solo' (alternate master volume) feature and bigger switch/pedal. If you're thinking of gigging the 25W will keep up with a hard hitting drummer but 35W will give you a bit more headroom to spare.
I have never heard a better sounding amp than this love it so much has officially became my dream amp I must have one :) I will certainly be adding it to my studio once we are all set up and on the go :)
I just wanted to say that it was this video that inspired me to buy my Mark V:25. I had been on the fence for a while but when I watched this video the first time, I decided to sell my beloved Mark IV and order one of these in Blue Bronco with the Black and Gray weave grill cloth. I still can't believe how good this amp is and how impressive this video is, every single time I watch it. Thanks Randy!
Hi +Oliver Ramos - Unfortunately, you'll have to wait for the relative closeup shots in the video to get an ideas of the settings as they change frequently throughout the video. Most of the sounds will offer a point in the video where you can make out the settings. Stop the video and blow up to full screen and you should be able to see the settings. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.
This video makes me smile every time I watch it. The look that Doug and John share at the 14:00 says it all. Doug, Randy, Maddi and John are such gearheads and it really shows how we are as guitar players. The tone search never ends!
the majesty has an active internal boost, and that makes a whole lot of difference when saturating a tube amp. They should have said if the boost was on or not
Good point, josé andrés Yanes - Except there was no way for us to keep track of when John was switching it on and off and I don't think John was 'keeping track' either. He does make a point of showing it on and off at one point in the video but he also does a fair amount of riding the volume control up and down as well - impossible for us to list all of the variations. That said, the amp is the amp and John is John - the rest is up to the player and their own musical preferences, right? Thanks for watching! :D
Love the Mark Five: 25!!! Great demo, also checked it out on your website and at a local music store. This has to be the best amplifier Mesa's put out in a very long time, for my tastes anyway. Hope I can get one in the not too distant future.
Bought the V 25 with the mini recto cab slant after playing an axe fx for over 10 years. Best decision ever! It feels so different in a good way! Awesome amp - well done MesaBoogie🤘🏻
It sounds TREMENDOUS. I've ever loved the Mark sound, and in the near future I would have the chance to buy one. Now I'm really happy with my 1986 Mesa QUAD, no poweramp, unfortunately, but I connect it to the return of my Rockerverb 50 with a pedal that works like a master volume. great tone, massive, thick, big, clear as I want. Every time Mesa makes me happy to have tried their amps and still use..real love :-)
Nice demo from John. Got my V25 two weeks ago, I have found plenty of great tones in 5 modes. So much tweakability in such a small box. Extreme mode is still unexplored territory for me, more sonic exploration ahead. The Cruch mode is easily my favorite, very dynamic. Cleans up nicely with Gtr vol pot and responds nicely to pick attack. Great job Mesa.
+Ferretclaw444 he is the guitar player of DT, not Allan partson project or something, obviously he plays his own songs, and not many people can play them!!!
This video is what sealed the deal on this amp. I am getting mine next week after an 8 week wait from ordering it. I think this amp is going to be a classic.
I wonder how many mark 5 25 heads this video has sold? I know between this video and the andy timmons video I bought one without even trying it out first.
I found a great deal on one of these and am going to pick it up tomorrow. I ordered a MKIV Combo in 93' right from the Factory and had shipped to Canada and it was at that time the most momentous moment for me in music as a guitar player. Changed my life, and yes, I'm a Boogie Fanboy for life! So stoked and this video has solidified my decision. Thanks, M.E. and J.P!~
Honestly, the sound of this amp is nothing surprising to me. It is after all, a Mesa Boogie. We've come to expect nothing less than tonal nirvana from Mesa Boogie...especially with JP at the other end of the guitar cable. But what REALLY intrigues me about this demo is that even the pros like Petrucci can pull a boneheaded maneuver like forgetting to plug the cable into the jack!! LOL!! Priceless! I have just heard my next amp!
I just got this a couple of days ago, because of this video. I fell in love the second I plugged it in. The cleans are sparkly and choir like and throwing the 5 band in makes them HUGE. And the Extreme tone with the 5 band in Highs at about 2 oclock, mids and 12 and the lows at 9 and this thing is the tone I have bought countless pedals, FX proc's and multi FX's loocking for. I am a MESA fan for life now. Just need a Mesa 1x12 cabinet now. MESA/Boogie is the best amp I have used, and I have used tons. Thanks.
I've had this amp for two weeks. I predict this will be the best selling amp Mesa Boogie has ever made. I play styles ranging from Jazz chord melody, Latin,Funk, Blues, Rock and Pop. I will use this amp on any gig and deliver authentic sounds from roots to high tech. Do yourself a favor and check it out.
He was genuinely blown away by that amp and thoroughly enjoying himself. Great video, thanks for sharing. My bank account won't thank you though.. gotta have one !
I have to say this, and please read til the end so you don't write me off as a "Mesa Troll". As a guitarist, I never really warmed up to any Mesa amp - til now. I always felt that the (and prob my fault for not taking the time to dial one in...) Bass was farty and flabby, and especially with the Dual Rectofier, that there was an inherent "glare" in the Presence/Lower Treble that would shred my ear drums. Having said that, this Amp seems to have EVERY sound I could want or need without the frequency anomalies I mentioned above. Of course, having John's fingers helps (lol) but at a street price of $1299 for an American made amp that sings like this, this thing is a STEAL ! Great job Randall Smith !! You made me a "Boogie Believer" ! ♫
Thanks for the kind words, 1970borntorun - Probably fair to say that some Mesa amps take some time to find your sound in them. And sometimes, people come from a place in tones where, well... that's your sound! BUT... We continue to innovate and recreate ourselves as well as paying respects to the legacy of our own sounds and... people are finding their sound in our stuff. And we really appreciate it! Thanks for taking the time and hope you dig the amp!
Thank you for taking the time to write back. I know all must be very busy up there in the my Hometown - Bay Area! I used to go see John Wedemeyer ALL the time in San Jose, and his live tone, before he unfortunately switched to Two-Rock Amps (and then moved to Vegas) , was AMAZING coming out of his Mark 2 (??) amp. Just phenomenal note clarity and a tight bottom from his ES-335.
Never been a real big fan of MR Petrucci.. But i gotta say.. For a guy who has a ton of technical prowess and fame.. He is a really nice dude... Kudos petrucci
I played not that many different Amp brands; Mesa, Marshall, Laney, Blackstar, Fender, Bugera and some other brands. But Mesa ... oh my god, sounded totally freakin awesome :O
thank you Mr. Mesa Boogie ... by the way, Im looking for a job. I live in germany, bachelor of engineering (electrical engineering / automation) 4 years work experience, can entertain and do presentations. I was one year in New Zealand, so my english is not that much shitty, now Iam back...
For the longest time, I never got to understand what was so special about this amp...NOW, I understand!!! Yesterday, I got to try this amp in one of the local stores and I was blown away!!! I am now a believer!!!
this is the only Mesa I've ever heard that would make play anything other than my trusty old 5150ii. and that ladies and gentlemen is TRULY saying something...I've worked for over a decade in music retail and have gigged for many years. never felt the Mesa vibe. until now. great demo vid and good luck with this amp out there in the world. peace

This video was a blast to make with John and so stoked that people get the sense of hanging out with John in the Tone Lounge like we hoped. It's what it felt like when it was happening! Thanks again and keep rockin' the MK25! :D
What are the crunch settings this vid? Mine has no where the gain of this vid with settings I use.
I love my Mark V but this amp sounds incredible.
i could watch videos like these all day.
That's so cool he was a huge part of the R&D. He has become Mr. Mesa Boogie these days.
Ive owned and used this amp for around 9 years and still love it to this day. SO versatile and dynamic. For me its biggest strength is how tight the distortion can be with a good cabinet, as well as the FX loop. Wonderful amp that I will continue to use!
A must watch for every guitar player beyond genre boundaries!
Thanks for the kind words, +TheWuuuuh. So great to watch John in this environment just checking out a piece of gear. thanks for watching! :)
This video is excellent...seeing Randall and the team explain the amp and hearing John play the amp is great!
Thanks,Larry Marseglia - It was a blast to put it all together! Thanks for watching. :D
Wow - that is a monster sounding amp. Chappers & I have a video going up on this amp soon - we both really liked it, but I'm not sure we sounded as good as Petrucci does!! Must be something in the fingers!!!
I'm glad to hear you guys have a video on this one going up soon!
I didn't expect to see you here, Lee! You're awesome.
Lee, there is no shame in getting blown out by Petrucci :D
Well.....it's is Lord Petrucci.....no shame in coming in second to a God. lol Cheers Lee!
Cant wait for your vid
i'll trade my studio pre, mini rec, caliber 50. marshall jcm 900 and tubescreamer for this monster!!!!! damn!!
This Video made me smile! His tone and playing is simply amazing and the mesa guys are so kind. Thanks for sharing this awesome video with us +MESA/Boogie
Thanks for watching, +Optimoe89 - So glad you dig it!
John is like a kid in a candy store. You just can't get enough of hearing him playing guitar.
Hey guys, I miss this video and I'm still having tears falling down in this video, remarkable tech that you made
Thank you, Fendi-Bull. So glad you enjoyed this. It was amazing to create and a fantastic moment in time. All the best! :D
Great company, great player, great people. Thanks for the video!
i was a Marshall devotee for years until i tried a mesa myself and explored it thoroughly
and i can safely say now they sing like angels and have unduplicatable tones, meaning
"no other amp does what a mesa does"
and it does it very, very well.
Many thanks, trillriff-axegrinder - Very much appreciate the kind words!
Loved How Humble This Man!...
I'm so glad I could listen to the greatness of John Petrucci and the technology Mesa has to offer through my crappy laptop speakers.
Hahahahahahstedeo - Very funny, sir! :D Headphones an option?
This thing is amazeballs
I am hooked
The tone coming from this beast is sweet
I love how the notes still have great definition on heavy distortion
Thanks, Judd Oakes. Amazeballs! :D
Thank YOU,Onur Alakus - glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the kind words!
I just bought a different amp that I had wanted for a while, and you guys come up with this beast.
I guess I'll be filing for bankruptcy this fiscal year.
That guy surely listens to a lot of Dream Theater.
+James Smith :'DDD
+James Smith This... makes sense... ;) John the farmboy, just an ordinary boy who likes dream theater... oh wait...
+James Smith
You mean that John Petr something something guy? Yeah, he's such a DT fanboy
+Felix Blacksher The other top comment was a month ago.. This one was 11 month ago.
Ive always wanted to see my hero noodle, this is the best video ive seen in the past 5-10 years easy. Well done!
Power tube*. The preamp tubes have a spring loaded casing on them. They aren't going anywhere.
Glad to hear we got it sorted, +Chris A :) Thanks for the kind words and let us know if anything else comes up!
Is it good for bedroom volumes?
Thank YOU***** ! Appreciate the kind words and stoked you're digging the Mark Five: 25! Great color choice, BTW... Keep on rockin'!
Hi +Oliver Ramos -
Unfortunately, you'll have to wait for the relative closeup shots in the video to get an ideas of the settings as they change frequently throughout the video.
The tone search never ends!
just sold my 6505+ for one of these. the tone is stunning! running it through a 2x12 recto cab, and i couldnt be happier
Congrats, +no no no - hope the amp is exceeding your expectations! :)
great player + great amp = awesomeness
the majesty has an active internal boost, and that makes a whole lot of difference when saturating a tube amp.
The sound of this amp is insane! And what a great player to demonstrate the power of this amp.
Listening to John Petrucci jam for 15 minutes, just awesome.
I keep coming back to his demo videos for Mesa products. He's such a good ambassador for the brand, I think.
Im saving for a new smallish amp...was looking at the ENGL Ironball.. but this looks killer!
Want! Now!
Most amazing tones ever heard in one video.
STUNNING
It sounds TREMENDOUS. I've ever loved the Mark sound, and in the near future I would have the chance to buy one. Now I'm really happy with my 1986 Mesa QUAD, no poweramp, unfortunately, but I connect it to the return of my Rockerverb 50 with a pedal that works like a master volume. great tone, massive, thick, big, clear as I want. Every time Mesa makes me happy to have tried their amps and still use..real love :-)
one of the best, coolest, most satisfying videos I've seen. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks,DoomedDawn. Glad you're diggin it and thanks for the support!
This is literally best demo of an amp that I've ever seen. I can clearly see what exactly this killer thing can do. Probably it's my next purchase.
i love this video.... i got my MarkV25, Thanks MESA for this perfect little monster!
Damn straight bro this is by far the the best Mark 5 demo that I've ever seen
Lol the guy in this video only plays Dream Theater songs, doesn't he know anything else?
Ha! +Ferretclaw444 - That's awesome. :D
+Ferretclaw444 I really really hope this is sarcasm lol
+Ferretclaw444 He is not so bad. At least, he knows few Metallica's riffs:)
+Ferretclaw444 he is the guitar player of DT, not Allan partson project or something, obviously he plays his own songs, and not many people can play them!!!
+bballgod237 Haha ofc
This video is what sealed the deal on this amp. I am getting mine next week after an 8 week wait from ordering it. I think this amp is going to be a classic.
Thanks so much,Todd Sawasky - And for being so patient as well. Hope it exceeds expectations and let us know if there's anything we can do to help! :D
Love this keep up the great videos! Would be sweet to see a more indeep video with the Lonestar Special perhaps with Andy Timmons :D !!!
Stand by, +Alex Alexander
- You'll be pleased with what's coming next! :D Thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching.
amazing!this is one super crystal clear sounding box. punchy and amazingly clear at the same time.im buying this for sure.
Thanks, Anast.
that's one hell of a crunch mode, with that no need for the extreme or anything for that matter :)
That's massive!
Thanks, +emrebozkurt800 - Such a great mode to play!
You are the best guitar man!!!!!! This mesa mark is nothing without you playing!!!!!!!!
Best amp on the planet
Thank youRick Neal ! :D
This amp released the very day my Mini Rec arrived. I'm already saving my pennies for one! Great work, guys!
Wow that was some of the best playing I've heard Petrucci do in a while. DT stuff aside, the candid bluesy stuff is epic!!
Nice,James Russo - we loved that stuff too!
I like how they give us hints to John's amazing sound, they tell you what mode it's on and all.
Love you guys!
I wonder how many mark 5 25 heads this video has sold? I know between this video and the andy timmons video I bought one without even trying it out first.
Awesome, +Brian Jewell ! Thanks for the kind words and thanks for your support. Hope the Mark Five: 25 is serving you well! :D
Congrats,*****- Hope it is exceeding your expectations and let us know if you have any questions or there's anything we can help with! :D
+planetgas it's awesome isn't it. .for me it's a perfect amp.
Mesa Boogie writes to TH-camr...TH-camr responds to "other guy..." love it.
Science Fiction you overestimated a little bit it’s actually 1600
Thanks for the kind words,Larry Knight - Glad your finding as much versatility as we thought people might. Thanks so much!
To date this is my favourite amp test video ever.
Never been a real big fan of MR Petrucci.. But i gotta say..
For a guy who has a ton of technical prowess and fame.. He is a really nice dude...
Kudos petrucci
Great showcase! wish all amp reviews were this way!
Almost thought i was there playing the amp! LOL
Needless to say this amp is GODLY!
I played not that many different Amp brands; Mesa, Marshall, Laney, Blackstar, Fender, Bugera and some other brands.
But Mesa ... oh my god, sounded totally freakin awesome :O
Thanks so much for the kind words, +Martin Bohl ! Very much appreciated. Keep on rockin'! :)
thank you Mr.
Nice, +Larry Wilson Jr - Glad you got a chance to try one out. There's a whole lot to like in this little amp. Enjoy! :)
+MESA/Boogie It'll be a awhile before I can call one mine but it will be worth the wait!!!
I have one of these....
IT'S freaking AWESOME.
Thanks, Jason. So glad you're digging it! :)
My MarkV25 has arrived!!!!!! best guitar amp ever! thanks for exist Mesa!
Amazeballs, I will have one of these soon enough!
Man, that was AWESOME! Can't wait to be able to get my hands in one as soon as they get it here in Brazil!
what a cool amp,and the price is even better ,giving the little guys a chance to use a profesional guitar amp. thank you Boogie.
really great sounding amp. well done mesa/boogie. and that dimarzio humbucker suits the amp even better. unbelieveble.
Thanks, alrego ramando - Glad you dig and thanks for watching!
I love that amp Never getting rid of mine
this is the only Mesa I've ever heard that would make play anything other than my trusty old 5150ii. and that ladies and gentlemen is TRULY saying something...I've worked for over a decade in music retail and have gigged for many years. never felt the Mesa vibe. until now. great demo vid and good luck with this amp out there in the world. peace
