- Rising out of Chicago's poverty-stricken Southside, all students in the all-male, predominantly black senior class of the Urban Prep Academy, a charter high school, was accepted to a four year college. Good Morning America reports.
This is so fabulous- I wish more educators and institutions took this route!
Mr. King thank you for your vision. God is blessing you and the school.
Wow ....! Very inspiring.
I love to hear where these young men are now. It will be great if there is a follow-up interview as it might encourage others.
I'm so excited to be moving from Denver to Chicago for my boy to attend and become does respectable young man in science and engineering doctors that I know that they want to be
Hopefully u didn't. School was terrible. No discipline. No accountability

I hate people saying they only average 16, that is a good start considering where these boys came from. Life is not only about passing exams but building character & changing a mind set of am not good enough. Am soo proud of these boys and the amazing man who started this coz this is a phenominal about to happen the different narrative of african american boys just started with this school watch this space in 10yrs.
Peace and Love Black Men!

'How can you say the sky's the limit when there are footsteps on the moon?' >> CRYING.
Look at the reality against the odds and close your mouth action speaks louder than words these young men live in area where kids get killed by other kids and one person on here can have a negative comment. Really.and now they are setting examples of excellence this wasnt supposed to be ,Wow
Not all schools require the ACT. Usually only SAT, we dont know their individual SAT scores.
Their ACT average was a 16.
A considerable amount of good 4 year schools that these kids boast about getting into usually require scores in the mid-twenties.
What's wrong with this picture?
Hay Soos this was 8 years ago. How are their doing now.
And besides they may have had awesome SAT scores that cancelled out their bad ACT scores. Since SAT's mostly consist of reading and math, UP curriculum spends more time and resources on those two subjects
Must do in Minnesota!!
In 2010, 2011, and 2012 100% of the students were admitted into 4 year universities. How is meeting your objective failure?
Oxford? That's a load of bull. Not saying the students are terrible, just that abc is embellishing as they always do.
@aferg76
congrats - but the whole school averaged a 16 - you may be doing well for yourself - but the school as a whole is a failure
I hate my school
