I have had the honor of visiting with my Aunt Arnita when she was alive and of having students from the school in colleges where I have served. And then of course it is where Michelle Obama went... So proud since it reflects the legacy began by my grandparents who themselves headed a high school for students of color in KY and set a standard for educational excellence that runs strong in our family today. (Niece Jordan graduating from Yale (MFA) and granddaughters already aspiring to top colleges before the age of 13.
Class of 83...I traveled many miles to attend this amazing high school. Whitney Young was part of the foundation that allowed me to be successful in college, graduate school and life! All of my life people have been telling me about how smart I am, and how I can get into Whitney Young SPECIFICALLY , but since I'm going to 8th in the fall, it's all becoming a reality. I don't know for sure If I'll get in here, but at least I know that people have been pushing me to these last 2 years. I really want to get into Whitney M. Young Magnet High School and although I'm a "big fish in a little pond", (Quote from 5th grade teacher... Thanks Mrs.Heard ) I'll keep getting my fish food so when I take the exam I can get in. My grades that matter are 3 A's and 1 B's (disappointing, right?) but I tried my hardest to get some high scores on NWEA. My reading is the 98th percentile, which is huge. But I promise, that even if I don't get into Whitney Young. I still tried my best. Hopefully, you might hear of a student named China Smith in the 2016-2017 class. Wish me luck you guys

There are a lot of programs, clubs, and opportunities that the Whitney Young kids get. There's nothing wrong with other schools, but this school is special. Honestly, I don't know what I'll do if I don't get I to this school. I'm trying to get out of my neighborhood (which is TERRIBLE) and out of what I'm used to. Whitney Young will help you become open minded. For one, this school is diverse. There are many races here, and on the program list on CPS and on their website, there are soooo many choices. Whitney Young is so hard to get in, but if you know that you've put in the work, you'll be relieved when you get your letter in the February before your Freshmen year. I'm not telling you to be a work-o-holic, but it seem so worth it. You have a better chance than me honestly. You have the willpower to study more, you're finding more about the school, and you are seeing now how rigorous this school is. I just really want to get in. If I didn't get in, I'll be torn. But its all because I didn't push myself to become the absolute best I can be. But good luck, because it will be worth it. Also, wish me luck. My test is next Saturday.

I am so scared to apply because I am now a 7th grader and some of my friends did the selective enrollment during our 6th grade year and got excepted to Gwendolyn Brooks, and Lindblom and now they won’t be with me for my 7th grade year so I will take the selective enrollment so for high school I can go to Whitney young but seeing how one thin little mistake of one B in a class can make you not get excepted really puts the pressure on me and I just need some advice. Man oh man, this is really scary. I really want to get into this school because my sister did, and I want to follow in her footsteps. I excel above all my classmates, and have been close to winning the spelling 3 times, but failed due to stage fright. 🙄 I have had straight A's since kindergarten. ( When I was in kindergarten, my teacher made me go to the first grade class because I already knew what she was teaching ) Seems like I would get in. That's what I thought until now. Of course a couple months before I take the test I start worrying. Classic me. Hopefully one day you hear of a WY student called Eliot Gierat.
