For years it was a battle between 2112 and moving pictures for my top Rush album. But now as I’ve gotten older, I realize it’s actually permanent waves, the one that started it all for me.
All the songs are excellent on this album. Classic!
It’s my favorite album. hemispheres through Power windows. I could listen through and not fast forward a song.
_Permanent Waves_ and _Moving Pictures_ are always twin records in my book. Made in close proximity to each other, they are aesthetically identical and I experienced them simultaneously. In fact, for years those two records lived in opposite sides of the same cassette tape. I do have a romantic preference for _Moving Pictures_ , but it is just that, a personal predilection, not a critical assessment.
I rate and listen to _2112_ and _Hemispheres_ in the same way. I ignore side one and listen to the collection of shorter songs of side two. The album in between, _Farewell to Kings_ I do enjoy in its entirety.
farewell to kings
Same here. This was my high school album.
So much imagery in the lyrics to this one. I loved Billy Corgan's story in the documentary 'Beyond the Lighted Stage' of how he played this song to his mother when he was a teenager to try to get her to see how he was feeling as the lyrics resonated so much to him that he felt that they could have been written for him.
Neil had a great way of talking about everyday issues and his uses of metaphors to convey his thoughts always make me think and reevaluate things. I don’t think you’ll find a more thought proving lyricist than Neil.
I just had a similar feeling and thought while i was checking out Subdivisions!
I heard an interview with one of Neil's sister and when she stated that if anyone wants to know my brother now that he has passed "Ghostrider" is your chance. I was so floored by how honest a legendary private person got in that book.
Its a great book. Really felt like i was there with him.
Lee’s _My Effing Life_ is just as honest and revelatory. I am usually not that interested in the personal lives of celebrities, but stories of how one survives tragedy are things I do find interesting. In case you haven’t read it, Lee dedicates a great deal of space to the story of his parents’ survival of the Holocaust and how those experiences shaped his life, sometimes to hilarious effect. Lee also delves really deeply into his life in a way that deconstructs the image we have of the three members of Rush as well behaved, well adjusted, erudite musicians. Greatly recommend it.
Your Rush reactions are the best... you GET IT! Thanks
agree 1 000 000%......i tell him just that all the time
Thanks so much! Appreciate it! 🙏🏽
Rush, you either get it, or you don’t. Most incredible musicianship, complication, easy to listen to, have always loved it.
The real Rush love song is "Ghost of a Chance" Check that one out.
What about The Speed of Love?
Also Open Secrets
@@dalemerrifield8308Cold Fire too.
My favorite song from Permanent Waves. I love that you’re continuing down the Rush rabbit hole. And now that you’ve read Ghost Rider AND continue your journey, you understand more deeply about the GENIUS that was Neil Peart. We lost a great human being and I’ll die on that hill. Peace Saeed✌️
Addendum: Thanks again for the serotonin boost 😁
He definitely was a great and interesting human being. Glad he left a lot of his art for us to enjoy and learn from.
Neil was a great poet, along with being a great prose writer, not to mention his drumming capabilities! RIP Prof!
Yay, another Rush reaction!! You're gonna love Different Strings....very mellow and beautiful. Thank you for my Rush fix!!!
Looking forward to it!
If you let it, these lyrics can bring tears to your eyes.
@@apexzeneth4709 And sometimes, you just can't stop them.
Love this song, especially the lyrics. This entire album is perfection. Different Strings is a beautiful song as well. I’m sure you’ll love it.
Yeah it is ❣️❣️❣️🙌🥰😘😉💐💐💐
Thank you for playing this bands tunes. rush is everything.
Amazing band! Thanks for watching.
I think it’s time for us to realize
The spaces in between
Leave room for you and I to grow
(Not hate on each other)
Think it's more song about love and relationship, rather than a 'love song'. Beautiful
"They hit me in a different way "
That sums them up perfectly
Incredible band!
I bought this Album the day it showed up at the local record store. Went home listened all the way through and sat there for about an hour trying to digest what I had just heard. Not my first rush but after their the first 4 and a live album this was the first turn Rush took in their long careers. I was blown away and instantly a forever fan.
This was the first new album they released after I first discovered them. I then bought every studio album on release up to Clockwork Angels.
Rush never saves the good lyrics for the end of the song. They hit you hard right away. Great reaction!
"Some are burned or swept away,
Some we would not choose, but we're not always free..."
This is the final verse and for me the most impactful by far. Not all of the 'bridges' that we build to connect with others are chosen ones. Some are there out of necessity, some are out of commitment to family or loyalty to a professional relationship. We are not always free and even the most unbreakable bonds can unravel so easily. It can be a devastating experience to see a deep meaningful connection get swept away suddenly.. horrible..
I love this album! ❤
This is such a beautiful song!
Different Strings I would say also is a love song of sorts. The lyrics for this song were written by Geddy Lee.
I have a couple song suggestions for after Different Strings.
Secret Touch from the Snakes and Arrows tour
Ghost Rider live in Rio
Both songs are from the album Vapor Trails which was their first album after Neil came back.
Cheers
Incredible album.
Thanks for watching and for the recommendations.
Different Strings is a hidden gem.🎉❤
That one is up next!
One of my favorites from RUSH! Keep em coming! Be well and H
God bless… from Texas!!
Love it! Thanks for watching.
I always loved how Neil wrote about love because he wasn’t the “I love you, I’ll never let you go” type of lyricist. He often wrote about the hardships of life and love that people are sometimes scared to accept and talk about. Other Rush songs that either reference love or are about love are Ghost of a Chance, Cold Fire, The Speed of Love, and Cold Fire.
Love Rush.
Amazing band!
your reaction to the lyrics is teaching me more than i thought i knew about Rush's Lyrics. thank you. 👍
Wow! Thats incredbly humbling. Thanks so much 🙏🏽❤️
I've never believed that this was a love song. I think it's about the relationship between the band members and handling the artistic tension between them.
These guys were together for a long time, and there were often differences between them about the band's direction. Geddy and Alex, especially, differed on keyboard sometimes being used as the featured instrument on songs.
I think that this song was the band coming to terms with allowing room for growth and experimentation for each member, who were each virtuosos.
Thanks for sharing that interpretation!
@@SaeedReacts. In interviews, the Rush members talked about finding space in the songs for their instruments to fill. I think that this lends credence to thinking about "the spaces in between" as musical spaces.
Loving your reactions ....you get it ....great reactions to my favourite band of all time..
Thanks so much!
Epic band!
Excellent song! Excellent album!
Awesome album! Really incredible.
You will never be disappointed in Rush, well maybe their later stuff .. but up to the 2000's they absolutely smashed it!
Looking forward to many more!
At 6:08 i always noted that in the lyric "it's hard for one to know", "one" could refer to either person in this story. Often knowing ourselves is more of a challenge. That seems like maybe a cheesy or banal thing to type out, but Neil's lyrics are sublime and have nuances that youtube comments never can reach. Anyway, I love any and all Rush content as long as it is thoughtful so keep up the good work buddy! Bedankt! ;)
Thanks for pointing that out!
En bedankt om te kijken 😄
Human nature and relations were very heavy subject matter in Neil's writing. On another note, the intro could very easily go into "Never Been
Any Reason", by Head East.
I’m amazed that people are saying this is a love song. I can see it but I think it’s about the love of friends and family more than a romantic love. I have always thought it was a friendship song. But I could be wrong. 😑 I often am ☺️
I can see that. Friendship and family is love too. Doesnt have to be romantic love, so you might be right 😃
That's how I've interpreted it too. One major strength of introverted types like Neil and myself is that we prefer to focus our limited mental energy on nurturing deep, meaningful relationships with a close inner circle of loved ones, friends and colleagues, and it does make sense that he would write a song about that.
Please keep doing Rush songs forever, haha. fun to watch these for the musical appreciation but also I am trying to place your accent and it is just a roller coaster that i don't want to end.
Will check out many more! I am from Belgium, my native languag is Flemish which is like Dutch with a different accent. Almost like US/UK English.
Really enjoying your Permanent Waves reactions. Great to see how they seem to be growing on you a little bit more with each track. I think they're getting to you! Can't wait for the final track from this classic, and to see where you go after that too. Much appreciated, thanks 😊
What a journey. Really inspiring art!
Thanks so much for watching!
Love your work Saeed, You have a great channel. Thankyou.
Thanks so much!
This is in my opinion the Best RUSH album. Been a fan since 1979 when I was 10.
I am not versed enough too form an opinion on that since this is the only album that i have listened to all songs, but they are all so good. Like other artists would be happy to have one of these songs on their album. Incredible project!
Cold Fire & The Speed of Love are also “love songs”.
Thanks for the recommendations! Definitely want to check those out as well.
Man, I remember buying this 8 track tape at Kroger grocery store, oddly enough. Wore it out in short order, but by then cassette tapes were the thing, so got it and the vinyl, LOL. Such poetic lyrics, Neil nailed it. Thanks for another great vid, enjoying your Rush journey quite a lot. Cheers, mate!
Thanks for sharing that story! Awesome!
I get the biggest kick out of you, Saeed, lol. Your enthusiasm lights up the room. These lyrics are powerful, and meaningful. I have to admit, I'm only familiar with a few of their songs. I tend to listen to the older music, but there are some artists from the 70's thru the 90'sthat I love. But, I love watching you react to them all. Thank you for being you 😊
Thanks so much, Deborah!
Really been enjoying Rush's music. Incredible writing.
There is another love song Alex
Lifeson said, Manhattan Project 😂. Watch Rush perform Entre Nous in 2004 Live in Holland, Snakes & Arrows Tour!
@@SaeedReacts. Bien le bonjour du Québec !
Only Different Strings left. A change of pace but such a beautiful masterpiece to come and that outro, well I will just have to wait for your reaction. Thanks again great stuff.
That reaction is recorded! Now need to get it edited/uploaded before i leave on vacation 😃
Thanks so much for watching!
@@SaeedReacts. Enjoy your break.
Rush - Entre Nous is a great song. Each Verse is a enter action with people in our life. Each verse Family (We are secrets to each other), Friends (We are planets to each other), Work (We are strangers to each other), and the Marriage (We are islands to each other) relation. As we go through life people move through the verses. Its what I think the lyrics mean to me. Under Marriage (Some we would not choose, but we're not always free) would be a pre-arranged. Its a great song and Thanks for a reaction.
Thats beautiful! Thanks for sharing that!
Hi Saeed, you can not go wrong with RUSH
Hi Janet! Looking forward to many more.
Thanks for reacting to one of my top 5 Rush songs. As great as the music is, Neil was able to lyrically draw every cliche into a stew that made it fresh, new, poignant, heartfelt, and pure. This from a man who often was criticized for being indifferent to the human condition.
He definitely knew a thing or two about the human conditition 😃. And a ton about writing and drumming 😄
You will enjoy them live!
The live versions i have checked out were amazing!
You’re such a great great song from a great album. Thank you! They did not do many love songs.
Amazing song! Thanks for watching.
Saeed, another Rush Sister friend told me about Entre Nous. What a beautiful song. Neil wrote a song called Chain Lightning. It's about him and his first daughter star gazing one night into the Canadian Sky. Check it out. Really funky beat with great lyric. Geddy always had a knack for expressing his singing through Neil's poetry profound lyrics. Available Light and Mission are great examples. 💜
Beautiful song.
Thanks for watching and the recommendations!
You should react to the song chemistry by them, and circumstances, both magnificent songs .. the list is long thankfully . RIP Professor
Thanks for the recommendation! Definitely have a lot more to go 😅
Rush has one “love” song on EVERY album-sometimes maybe TWO.🎹🎸🥁🎤🤘🖖✌️
Looking forward to more!
Different Strings is a bit of a different song. Lyrics by Geddy!
Written by Geddy but reads as if it was written by Neil!
You get it!
So many Rush reactions miss Neil’s lyrics.. not you.
Neil was a true poet
💯
Entre Nous is french and means ' between us'
I believe i mentioned this in the video, but it was recorded a while ago so i cant remember.😅 Thank for watching!
Hey Saeed, love the name! You need to start your Maiden journey...I think you'll enjoy it. I love your rush reactions, maiden will take you on a similar ride. My recommendation is to start with Hallowed be thy name, but then go and do the albums in order. First 7 albums are magic.
Enjoy!
Saeed
Hey! Thanks. Definitely want to start that journey as well. Hope to do so when i get back from vacation.
One of my top five from Power Trio
Best intro ever!
Great song, entire album is great. Looking forward to Different Strings. 😊 I think you've only reacted to 2 songs from the Moving Pictures album, which followed Permanent Waves. Check out The Camera Eye and Vital songs from Moving Pictures. They're both awesome of course!
Awesome album! Thanks for those recommendations.
Hey Saeed, as i've said before you could do every Rush song for what, 30 albums? and all the songs are good. i saw them 13 or 15 times starting in 77 with the Farewell to Kings tour.
So off of Rush for a minute. have you ever listened to Townes Van Zandt? or BLaze Foley? they are more country i guess, but never part of the mainstream. Townes wrote great songs. he had a way. I'd love to see you do a video of Townes singing 'Nothin' or Waitin' 'Round to Die'. 'Big Country blues' is a good one too.
I have not listened to those artists yet. Will add them to my list to check out eventually. Thanks!
I've always thought Permanent Waves is the perfect Rush album. It has the best of all their eras.
Magnificent album!
To mark the 50th Anniversary of RUSH's debut album, RUSH!, a reaction to "Working Man"(album version) would be fun. Sonically, it is very different from what you have heard from RUSH up to this point. No "story telling", just strait up "rock". Also, it is the only RUSH album that does not include Neil Peart. The original drummer, John Rutsey, is on the drums for this album. John could hold his own as a drummer and he is remembered fondly by RUSH fans. P.S. have a wonderful vacation!☮
Oh wow! I did not even know there was an album without Neil.
Thanks for letting me know.
@@SaeedReacts. You are quite welcome!
Out of the 19 studio albums, there are only 3 songs that I feel the need to skip. That isn’t a bad ratio! If you need a lighter, fun song, try Anagram off the Presto album.
That is an incredible ratio!
Also ....there is not ONE Rush song I don't enjoy, which I cannot say about any other musical group.
