I like your videos and have been thinking about building a boat myself, also I run Walmart batteries in my bass boat and usually get 4-5 years out of them. General maintenance will help keep them good. Also if you run any graphs with si, di, or gps. Get the 27 or 29. I can run my helix 7, helix 10 and both livewell pretty much all day on a 29dc everstart. And use the 29 series for the ultrex. Weight might be a little issue though. Anyway, great videos!!

Hi mate.. I am looking to put one of these on my boat; however, i am bit skeptical about installation as i am not mechanically inclined. Are the positive and negative coming out of device going straight to each battery and they shore power to the unit? Any other fuses or considerations to take into account? Thanks..

Just a thought but when using conduit, use individual wires rather than a wrapped pair. The theory is that it traps heat that becomes a fire hazard.
On your batteries, do you use a battery maintainer during the winter? Can help extend battery life

I would like to charge my 210VDC NiMH Battery pack with 4-8amp.
1- Should it work if I will use direct Grid 220VAC to a Bridge Rectifier (GBU808) and then use Rectifier's DC output of 220 VDC to charge my 210VDC Battery directly?
2- Do I need to add any other electrical component along with Rectifier to achieve basic target?

Some great information on hooking up batteries and all, I do have a question, I am installing two new fish finders, and I have watched several videos on ensuring direct power be applied to them. One video in particular is on using the wiring harness developed from Sea Clear, Although they have a great system, I think I can accomplish the same by making my own harness system. I have purchased marine grade 8 gage wire and I will be installing in line fuses , My question is they show running these lines directly to their cranking battery, I have a smaller boat and only have one dedicated battery for cranking, I also have two other batteries for my trolling motor, By connecting to my cranking battery wont that run my battery down and possible risk me not being able to start my engine?
My next question is they use a switch from the battery, never had a switch since most of my other electronics were so small they did not pull much juice, But these new lowrance units are a bit more power hungry, How exactly do these switches work on when I sold turn them on or off , I assume during cranking time they should be turned off but if I am up on plane running I need them on to read the lake.
In line fuses, I have heard a couple different fuse types to use, one says 5 amp and others say 20 amp going to the fish finders. Since each fish finder will have its own in line fuse is 5 amp sufficient?
I also noticed you used a breaker system that you purchased from wall mart, Should I also add those into any of the connections running from my battery to those units?
Sory a bit long but I want to get this right and I am hearing multiple methods, I just want it to be right so its safe. any help would be much appreciated, Thanks

Really like the idea of using PEX pipe. Is That ROMEX wire you're using? If so, GREAT IDEA! Impeach you? HA! The only thing that I can say with the weight is if the water goes over the sides of the boat when you unload it, THEN is when its too heavy! Ha ha ha! Everything that you use seems to be very lightweight. Especially when you're using aluminum. Take a pre build and post build weight measurement on scales then calculate the percentage of total weight. That will tell you if it's too heavy

To heavy???? Really???? I've seen your boats all built out and they're barely in the water. If you didn't have a fat man or two in the boat you'd have to put an extra long shaft motor on the boat. I guess you can't make everyone happy. And you never will. But for me, this sh*t is great. Man dont ever stop. And please dont take the old stuff off. I watch then rewatch and every time I get more of the evaluation out of the videos. I think it is a very good looking installation and very clean but there is no NEC or ABYC or NFPA standards being followed so, as a marine electrician myself I see many deviations that will shorten the life of this installation and in cases can be dangerous.
    .
    - Tin is less conductive but it is used to prevent corrosion and corrosion is way less conductive and more destructive than tin. So tin conductors should have been used.
    - None of these compartments appears to be vented, lead acid battery vent hydrogen a highly explosive and corrosive gas. Obviously it should be vented and no other appliance should be in the same compartment, certainly not a none-ignition protected battery charger.
    - Each battery should be secure so they could not move more than 1 inch in any directions, individually.
    - Breakers are called thermal breakers they trip on heat, that is why we use fuses that are tripping on amperage.
    - None marine grade breakers will just fuse/corrode themselves in the closed position.
    - Conduits are nice but they need to be vented for heat dissipation.
    - The posts you are using are called "accessory posts" they are not meant to provide the amperage that a trolling motor will ask, so heat and fire risk. A clue: When the AWG size of your cable is bigger than the post you are tying it too, there is a problem.
    - You are using a 20A charger and you mention 3 batteries, I see they are 690 MCA so your charger does not produce 15% of the total amperage of you r installation, not even 10% which is the absolute minimum requirement.
    - I am sorry to say: It is not about "calling you out" ( I have no idea what FB group you are talking about) and having good "rebuttals" (gee) it is about following standards.
    - Installing heavy components "at the ends'" will induce hobby horsing and that is a dangerous attribute in any boat and especially on low freeboard bass boat type.
    - The fitting you are installing on that wire at 3:10 is way too big for the stud and at the very least will shake itself loose.
    - I do not see any considerations for the voltage drop and these wires look pretty thin to me even at 24V, also it looks like you are using the same AWG size throughout so unless you used over-sized wires everywhere it looks like some runs will have undersized wires...
    - I do not think a clerk in a general battery store can be considered an 'expert' in marine electrical systems, you should àbe the knowledgeable one. Just sayin'.
    - Group 24 LA battery, well it is not a guess, you have to calculate your power requirements per hour, how many hours the requirement will be needed, and your deep cycle battery should be twice the total amount plus 20% as a safety margin.
Ex. your requirement is 10A for 10 hr = 100A your battery should be 100A plus 20% safety margin 120A battery needed. Bare minimum battery charger output 10% so 12A, 15% as a standard= 20A.
    - A battery threated decently should last 5-8 years, not one...
Those are just the ones that structed me in passing.
    Cheers,
    a

Why not 1st buy the boat or receive the boat for the build and then take it to a local weigh station or dump weigh station? Then do your build and compare afterwords...
I actually think your builds look pretty good, in my opinion alum is def lighter then wood and you proved that in another video... my area only offers 3/4 marine wood, my 89 tracker looked as if it had 1/2 inch on the bow, I'm hoping after fiberglass epoxy an carpet it's not to much weight, cause I'll be pulling the floor an doing the same process there, then onto the rear of the boat which needs all the foam removed some how it all looks to be 1 piece from the seats to the bottom of the rear center battery an gas box which I don't love the idea of my gas an 32v of battery in the same space...
