@@MarkCarp it is mate. It was my first time on the specimen lake there. I had fished the runs before but never on the speci. And if I’m honest, didn’t expect a bite but I was really confident after the first rod went within a couple hours of me being at the lake. Those were the only 2 bites I had but considering the lake hadn’t been fishing well due to an oxygen crash I really can’t complain

Well explained but is there really a need for the tubing? Seems overelaborate and too much hardware. Is it just to avoid tangles? If so, why aren't they used for other course and sea angling?
hi ed, for a carp rig that's actually quite simple, the tubing is for two reasons, first is to help stop tangles when casting and the second is protection of the fish, without it plain mono has the potential to lift scales on the carp during a fight, having the tubing there offers some protection👍
machined bar through the middle darrell, same size for all leads so same swivel size no matter what weight of lead, you snip the funnel off when you're done and touch up with a file if needed, my favourite type of leads these👍
@@NICarper yeah they work great in solid bags, i use them a bit too and yes they suit drop off style perfectly, even if you don't make your own you can bulk buy from facey👍
no mate nothing above the rig tubing if you can help it, you can use a 'flying backlead' if you want because they thread on the line and are free running but you should never fix anything to the line above the rig tubing👍
hi steven, on barbless waters i use the same hook but i crush the barb with a pair of long nosed pliers, you should run something like that past the owner or bailiff just to make sure it's ok but crushing the barb works really well. if they won't allow it then try a drennan super specialist, they are a bit shorter in the shank but they work well with a kicker or rig flipper on👍
i make my own leads mate, a local plumber chucks me the odd bit of scrap lead now and again and i have the moulds and coating powder to turn it into carp leads👍😃

Its a bolt rig John, the swivel sits inside the lead so the carp feels the full weight of it when the hooklink tightens. Once hooked yes it becomes a bit of a running rig, it actually reduces hookpulls, because the lead isn't fixed it will slide on the line if a carp shakes it's head. It's a cracking setup👍
Hi Mark...firstly I wanted to say how much I enjoy your video’s - particularly on particle baits. I’m coming back to fishing after a 52yr “break”, so basically starting from scratch. I’ve yet to cast a float or a feeder, but when I can I’m looking to target carp and tench with particle bait. I’ve purchased bulk quantities of whole maize, pigeon conditioner, maple peas, wheat and chicken layer pellets. It’s regarding the pellets that I have a question. I want to colour them, but the food colouring powder requires water. Can I coat the pellets (hemp oil?), then colour them prior to soaking bank-side? Any advice would be much appreciated.
hi stephen, thanks for the comments👍 regarding colouring, i'll be honest i've never coloured a pellet in my life, if you have a powdered colouring you will need a liquid to make it work and hemp oil is as good as anything, it's still mostly water anyway so it should trigger your colouring. you can get liquid food colouring as well but i reckon the hemp oil/powder would be better because you're adding to the attraction. Put some pellets in a plastic food bag, add your powder and hemp oil then blow the bag up like a balloon and shake it in order to disperse the oil and colouring. I can't give you details on how much hemp oil and colouring, you'll have to experiment but the 'bag and shake' method will work for you👍
@@MarkCarp Thanks Mark...I’ll give the oil & bag a go! You say you’ve never coloured a pellet, so you use the chicken layer pellets in a pellet feeder without any sort of additives? I assumed that they would be fairly bland on their own.
@@stephenmanuel4815 i never add colour to anything stephen, i always leave everything natural, fish already have decent eyesight so there's no need to try and grab their attention as they'll see the pellets anyway if the water is clear enough, smell and taste is more important, that's why i'd add the hemp oil, if it was me i'd just glug in hemp oil👍
hi callum, it's a semi fixed lead set up, when you're playing a fish it is technically a running lead, i'm not sure if you'd be allowed to use it?, you'd have to show it to the fishery and go with what they say. personally myself, i'd allow it, it's one of the safest lead setups there is but your fishery might have other ideas, it depends on how strict they are🤔

this rig tubing is supple and sinking so it will follow the contours of the lake bed mr b, it helps keep everything on the bottom, stiff rig tubing wouldn't do that, they both work but supple is better for hiding or disguising your rig, specially on a bottom that isn't flat👍
yes they should and they are supposed to fit but it doesn't always work out like that, i've had some that need to be forced in/out which is why i always make sure with a pair of pliers👍
For an hour I tried to put notes in different ways, it didn't bother me, I gave up 😅 until I saw this trick for 45 degrees. Now I put the lenght of 70 cm without problems, befor that 35 cm was nightmare 😂. If I could, I would give you at least a thousend likes 😊👍.
you're welcome mate, it's a neat little trick isn't it?👍 as long as you cut it at 45, your line is clean, dry and not kinked or crinkled in any way and your tubing is the same you should be good for that 70cm👍
@@kojenormalan it depends on your hooklength, if you use supple braid then an inline lead is ok in silt or soft mud but if you use a coated braid, mono, amnesia or anything stiff then i'd use a helicopter rig👍
@@MarkCarp Thank you for the advice, I will be happy to use it 👌. Until now I use Curv shank nr.6 with inline lead, hooklength 10-12 cm coated. I avoided muddy lakes 😀. Now I have found a very interesting lake, but the mud also reaches up to 70 cm. If I understood correctly, let's say I keep Curv shank with wider inline lead and I add a longer hooklenght about 15-20 cm, soft. I t will be ok solution or I to stick to heli 😇. Thx
@@kojenormalan i would go longer, my rigs for fishing in silt and mud are around 25cm with an inline lead, at the length, even if the lead plunges into the mud you'll still be fishing effectively👍

I'm struggling to see why it's so good mate, what does it offer that standard rig tubing doesn't?, does it blend into the bottom better?, thread easier or when wet?, will it increase my catch rate or put an extra fish or two on the bank?, for me it needs to offer a significant advantage over standard khaki tubing to justify the extra cost.

i haven't done the helicopter lead setup yet mate, i do use it specially for long range fishing so i've put it on my list of videos to make👍

never heard of it tony so i just googled it and had a look, i saw £12.99 on the website, that's triple the cost of normal sinking rig tubing!.

@@MarkCarp it pins to the bottom as it’s heavier than the plastic tubing and yes, threading line is easy even when wet it just slips through.
