Brings me back to middle school in 2007. Oh god. The memories this song brings are some of my favorites. Back when everyone was young, innocent, and had no responsibilities. Now everyone is grown up, is doing their own thing and has moved on...
I was a sophomore... but I agree. I just tried to message my best friend all throughout school and that I was in a band with.... never got a reply. It sucks
i feel you man, i believe that as we grow up we just become more boring versions of ourselves, with boring lives, and most of the time you feel alone, with no one to really share your thaughts with, become no one has time for nostalgia...
What about any friends that you could physically spend time with? Instead of just some distant virtual relationships with people you have never actually met through the restraints of a computer. Or perhaps you could call them on the phone to catch up? Is the only way you could ever connect with these friends over the Internet? I would actually try to avoid those kinds of distant online friendships with strangers you meet online because you never really know who someone truly is. What you know about them is based purely on the specific information that they choose to provide you with. Perhaps it’s better to focus on some of the friends you grew up with, went to school with...or even work with. At least then you are engaged in actual physical socializing...& you also know exactly who you’re dealing with. Instead of building fake relationships with strangers you only know anything about through computer contact. It’s much healthier to have contact with another human being when you are involved in a friendship, or any form of social relationship. It allows you to build a real bond based on reality...instead of the fake bond that comes with a distant relationship involving no contact of any kind...& is potentially based in lies in the first place.
You're lucky to have childhood and memories with this band. I'm 13 and discovered this band just a few weeks ago and I absolutely lovei their music. Every band I listen started making music before I was even born. But if you know some good bands, recommend :) (sorry if there is mistakes, English isn't my national language)
@@miroslay If you like Sum 41, then I'd recommend Bowling for Soup and Less Than Jake. I'm 30, when I was your age I too listened to bands that formed before I was born, like Van Halen and Def Leopard and then discovered newer bands. So you are the new generation, welcome to our world!

This lyrics are incomplete, at the end of the song the sing keeps up: "Why do the things that matter the most, never end up the way we chose. Now that I find no way so bad. I don't think I knew what I had".
Feels like it recognises the people who are kinda stand-offish with the world, even scared of just how mental it all truly is. And that everybody is faced with these thoughts, faced with others who worry and try to tell you things that you try hard to hold but your influenced point of view just cant grasp, so you retreat. The song makes it feel all okay, like what else can we do but try to change the situation as we lighten the heavy anxiety, step back and take a solid look before we jump? Its horrible that we had those spirit-breaking adversities and to deal with them as if still fresh this way in this world feels like the longer road, self-confidence will speed the process and help you find/keep yourself.
You missed that last lines of the song: Why do things that matter the most Never end up being what we chose Now that I find no way so bad I don't think I knew what I had x2
Sum 41 sums up my high school experience! Remember playing All killer no filler when i would drive to school and would think wow this is incredible, i can relate abit. Where the hell is the music nowadays?
I read somewhere that this song was based off the singer's friend who was diagnosed with AIDS. Apparently this was his reaction when he found out, because as we all know AIDS is sadly something of a death sentence and at the time this song was written it was even more so. Nowadays we do have treatments to slow the progression of AIDS, but... sadly there is still no cure. I can sadly relate, as a classmate of mine died suddenly in a car crash a few years after we both graduated high school. I didn't know him well enough to really call him a friend, but we talked sometimes and a couple of times played cards. We were a small class, and he told us all his dream was to become a famous musician. He was a really cool guy. That dream will never come true now. It happened so suddenly, and the lines "why do the things that matter the most never end up being what we chose?" and "now that I find no way so bad, I don't think I knew what I had" really hit hard because of that. I took for granted the time we spent together, and it never occurred to me that a classmate of mine, someone my age, would someday die so suddenly and violently like that. Indeed, "I've come to realize how fast life can be compromised".
Ummm, AIDS isn't a death sentence? So long as you take care of yourself, it's totally fine. All it does is put you at a higher risk of catching other diseases due to a weaker immune system. But you can work around that by taking care of yourself.
@@MegaOgrady I'm sorry if I offended, that wasn't my intention. However back then it sort of was or so I've heard. Nowadays I don't know but I was under the impression the best that could be done was to slow it down but it wouldn't stop it? Are we talking about HIV or AIDS? Because there's a big difference, yeah. HIV is likewise uncurable but if you take medication you can avoid spreading it to any sexual partners and you might be at higher risk of illness but if you take care of yourself and are careful you can live a long life. What's important is that you take medication not only to avoid spreading it to others but also to prevent HIV from becoming AIDS. Reading the comment section makes me feel old, and I'm only 17. Like, people are using typing styles that I thought were dead. Also, my entire perspective in regards to this song just changed. Apparently, the songwriter wrote this after finding out one of his friends had contracted HIV.
We're all on different levels...sometimes when you're feeling miserable, it's hard to see or understand the misery of others. You just can't sympathize with them whilst experiencing your own problems. The only thing to do is to find an outlet and try not to bring it to people who might not have good things to say.
Seriously the best moral message you can ever have in a song. Life can be compromised, you think your good until you think your evil, what works for one, may not work for two, and of course, everybody has their problems, it's just a matter how you solve them.
Man listening to this and the rest of Sum 41's songs brings me back down memory lane. It really sets of my nostalgia. I remember way back in elementary school I was a huge fan of Sum 41. Now I love the Red Hot Chili Peppers as much as I loved Sum 41 in elementary school.

Everybody's got their problems
Everybody says the same things to you
It's just a matter how you solve them
And knowing how to change the things you've been through
I feel I've come to realize
How fast life can be compromised
Step back to see what's going on
I can't believe this happened to you
This happened to you
It's just a problem that I'm faced with am I
Not the only one who hates to stand by?
Complications that are first in this line
With all these pictures running through my mind
Knowing endless consequences
I feel so useless in this
Get back, step back, and as for me
I can't believe
Part of me, won't agree
Cause I don't know if it's for sure
Suddenly, suddenly
I don't feel so insecure
Part of me, won't agree
Cause I don't know if it's for sure
Suddenly, suddenly
I don't feel so insecure
Anymore! So
Everybody's got their problems
Everybody says the same thing to you
It's just a matter how you solve them
But what else are we supposed to do?
Part of me, won't agree
Cause I don't know if it's for sure
Suddenly, suddenly
I don't feel so insecure
Part of me, won't agree
Cause I don't know if it's for sure
Suddenly, suddenly
I don't feel so insecure
Anymore!

Realy
No one's talking about how this song fits so well in that part of American Wedding
After how many year im stilllll listening to this : )
Thanks sum41

Rock is great. I don't know why more songs like this aren't made anymore. Rock needs to come back. All we have are pop and love songs.

We're all on different levels...sometimes when you're feeling miserable, it's hard to see or understand the misery of others. You just can't sympathize with them whilst experiencing your own problems. The only thing to do is to find an outlet and try not to bring it to people who might not have good things to say.
I'm a french people who listening that song in 2020 it's soooo nostalgic.
Who are french here ?
Finally, something decent in my recommend
What ever happened to good punk rock like this?

Hawk Tuah gang let's go
Dave Baksh is a really talented guitarist. He created so many Iconic riffs for Sum 41
Seriously the best moral message you can ever have in a song. Life can be compromised, you think your good until you think your evil, what works for one, may not work for two, and of course, everybody has their problems, it's just a matter how you solve them.
for what i know it is about their one friend having aids
@@ian3087 don't ruin it
@@Determinator21 my bad, the song itself is not about aids but it was created because of that one person
2:15 "But what else are we s'pposed to do?"
4 years late, but I thought I'd correct it anyways
Spare a minute and check out my band's studio cover of this song! Not some bullshit thrown together, we took our time with this one.
