He is able to do this because his success is enough for others to see him as a role model, leader, or authority figure. Over time, this would result in more people using the same methods to succeed in their goals and begin normalizing the behavior over time. This takes the song from being about a person using deceit for their benefit and elevates it to another level entirely. Those kids did indeed go far. They've become our businessmen, congressmen, senators, lawyers, judges, and even our president. I could go on forever about the subtle brilliance in this song, but I'll leave it there for now. When I was like eight I asked my PE teacher to play this song during class, I had no idea what the lyrics were saying, he turned it off and told me it had a bad word. I was so scared I thought he was going to hate me forever, and I didn’t know what the word was until today.
I fucking love the lord of the flies quote. This whole song is based off of that book. It’s amazing that he read it in high school like I did. And it also had such an impact on his life that he wrote a song about it. It had a huge impact on my life as well.
