One .22 cartridge not mentioned, that was of particular interest to me was the .22 Hornet. Excellent whitetail deer cartridge under 100 yards as well as varmints out to 400 yards.
I agree. Grandma Darlene used to hunt caribou with a .22 K Hornet, back in the day, when she lived in Fairbanks, Alaska. She later upgraded to a .223 Remington and successfully took down everything up to and including Moose.
You might have been a good enough marksman to bring down a deer under 100 yards. But I do believe most hunters would just wound the animal and have it run off and die. I am 79 years old. My dad gave me my first rifle, a Remington pump for my 10th birthday and I have hunted deer, elk, ducks, geese, pigs rabbits, all kinds of game . I consider myself a good marksman, but I would never hunt a deer with a 22 Hornet.
@@danclayberger770 While I have to admit that my 'go to' white tail rifle in my area was the Winchester '94 30-30 for the common 'less than 50 yards' brush gun, but, for the "clearer" areas I preferred the Hornet. The Winchester was open irons while the hornet had vintage "optics" that I could hold a $.50 group at 80 yards. The ONLY shot I would accept at those yardages was 'head on' between the eyes. Never had a 'runner'. One shot, one deer. Nowadays, with the diabetes, massive weight gain, failing eyesight and heart troubles, I am limited to reminiscing of hunts long ago. Ken

Back in the day the 222 was the one to beat on the target range. They built the 219 zipper,220swith, 218 bee, 221 fireball to try and beat them but the 222 out last them over time because of the barrel would last longer

.22 PPC is a different cartridge than the 5.45x39. The .22 PPC was originally a wildcat based on the .220 Russian cartridge. The .220 Russian is essentially a 7.62x39 necked down. It was a Russian sporting cartridge. The guys who invented the .22 PPC took the .220 Russian and improved it with a 30 degree shoulder and less case taper. It is one of the most efficient and accurate cartridges in the world. Arguably the most accurate short range benchrest cartridge is the .22 PPC's big brother, 6mm PPC which is the winning-est BR cartridge in history. The 5.45x39 has a smaller rim and body diameter than the .220 Russian and .22 PPC
This would be super overwhelming if I were new to guns/ammunition and solely relying on their videos for information. I cannot imagine coming across these with little-zero knowledge starting out.
@@bp4548 I have a little bit of knowledge and this is fairly confusing. I sort of understand, but them throwing out numbers and terms super fast is confusing because I have to think about it for a second.
Ok. If it says 556 then it can shoot anything. But if you get a 22LR then it will only shoot 22LRs and not 223s. Its kind of confusing but its not that hard.
Stone's Garage -DFW Hornet is the only Centerfire .22. Besides, one might have thought Long Rifle, but xplodicon was wondering why the Hornet wasn't mentioned, since it is the largest .22 and with it's centerfire, a hybrid between the regular, well known .22 and the first "real" rifle cartridges... in my opinion.
Exactly that what first came to mind when he ask "What the first thing you think of when you think of .22 centerfire?" I don't really put .223 in the '.22 category' even though it is.
Eric, you’re a sharp guy, but why have Chad on there if you won’t let him talk? Give him more talk time so the vids won’t seem so one sided. Keep ‘em coming!
the first thing for me that came to mind when you went .22 center fire was the .22250 that was a very popular round hear in Canada. It was used for long range varmint shooting. The only problem was the wind, so a lot of us were using .243 witch also was a tack driver. A hillbilly friend of mine was using the .22250 but had trouble in the wind on the long shots. So I lent him my .243 on a windy day, when he got back he went straight to the gun shop and picked up a .243. It is one of my favorite rounds, but hear on in PEI we have to stick to .22 cal for hunting so I use a .223 in a savage one with a 21" light barrel and one with a 26" heavy barrel for those long tack driving shots.
Just get a Hunting License in Germany and you can own as many Firearms as you want. There are Hunters in Germany with huge Arsenals. The only thing is that you cant fire them in your Backyard or your Farm ^^ So, basically the differences between Germany and the USA relating to Firearm Ownership are pretty similar. You can even buy a 12,7x99 ( Metric System FTW ) in Germany without any Problem.
+Wilko Stomberg We can shoot them in the back yard or farms. It did surprise me when I learned that Germany was not as strict on guns as a lot of European countries.
Question for you Wilko (French gun owner here): How are the German gun laws regarding the Cat. B guns (handguns and semi-auto rifles such AR, AK, etc...). In France we have a stupid 12 guns limits, and some calibers (such 5.56x45, 5.45x39, 7.62x39, 12.7x99 and 14.5 Russian) are falling in this category. Do you have any limit in number of firearms you can legally own? Danke, Tschuss! ;) PS: Be careful about the new EU gun law proposition that should be voted in July...
The 6mm Lee Navy wasn't the only early US small-bore cartridge, the .276 Pederson came very close to being adopted as the primary rifle cartridge for the US prior to WW2!
The main reason .276 Pederson did not get adopted is because of Macarther(excuse the spelling I'm not used to touch screens). John garand was also working on making a 30-06 rifle before the military trials. If im not mistaken most of the trial rifles were in .276
+james lamping Sort of. As I know it, the leading cartridge in the trials was the 276 and came very close to being adopted, generally being regarded as superior to 30-06. As you say, at the last moment the general intervened supposedly on the grounds of standardisation and logistics, with the army having recently tooled up for their machine guns and existing service rifles. As such, the trials were re-run with 30-06 Garands, resulting in the creation of the M2 Ball ammunition due to overpenetration and range safety concerns.
You two men are a world of knowledge on firearms and anything related. I too did the .22 carnival shoots to win the little dolls I go back and revisit your videos regularly I am so glad we have you two educating me and others who are still learning. . It is a privilege to see your videos ,also RIP Barry.
Those 30-06 accelerator's were NO joke. For anyone curious, I chrono'd a box of .308 and 30-06. Average 308 velocity was 3200 FPS. .30-06 was a staggering..4300 FPS. LOL. The 30-06 ones made the LOUDEST crack I have EVER heard.
William Mawk yup.....have .30-30 and 30-06 for many years..... They have now started manufacturing them again......stopped making them for a few years.....accuracy was a question mark with the early ones
So awesome You guys referenced the Savage 99 in .22 Cheetah. I own two 99's, one in .300 Savage and one in .22 Cheetah. Excellent rifles and I love them to death. Before I purchased my SoCom16, I handloaded my .300 Savage to be my ".308" for testing various bullets. It's actually quite similar to .308 case capacity so not a huge difference. Going back to the Cheetah though it is fun to shoot albeit more expensive than .223/5.56 but it just has character. Every time I range them people ask what the hell it is lol. All of my friends are into strictly ARs and polymer wonders and I love my ARs too but there is just something about a wood and steel lever gun that's twice as old as I am still functioning 100%. The craftsmanship is just something you don't really see these days; hell the Mag follower in my Savage 99 is solid brass, when's the last time you've seen that in a modern sporting rifle lol. Great vid as always guys!
Looked forward to this video. I'me one of those .22 caliber confused guys. However, I scrolled through the comments section which I usually do. Very first comment was race baiting about the Holocaust. Then it went on and on and on with nasty name calling and crazy statements that made no sense. Guys, please do your fans a favor. We watch you go to the range, review guns and impart your firearm knowledge on us. WE WATCH YOUR CHANNEL FOR FIREARM KNOWLEDGE, NOT HATE RANTS. When you see these guys do this trolling hate shit please block them from your channel. Remember we don't come here for that. Thank You.
Comments have nothing to do with the video. If you don't want to see it, don't scroll down. I love firearms but that portion of the community does exist and will surface in some way or another no matter where you go. Your best solution is to grow thicker skin.
***** What do hate rants against Jews or Muslims or anyone have to do with firearms? Nothing. Are there sites I can find with some sort of hate rants? Sure are. Gun owners have a hard enough time against anti-gun and neutral-gun people, who could point at comments like that and say"Do we want people like that to have guns? Hell no we don't." And I would agree with them. I don't need a thicker skin you have to wake the hell up. As gun owners we don't want to project some kind of wild crazy persona. If you have people like Ted Nugent saying stupid shit all the time, we'll loose everything. His talk is "AMMO" for gun-grabbers. You first sentence, comments have nothing to do with the video"> Ok Do you watch a video on cooking and then comment on some type of gun you shoot or something? What's wrong with you?"
+joe batters They do try to manage their comment section, I've seen it, but it's very difficult for any large TH-cam channel to keep their content section clean. If you want to blame someone, blame Google for their crappy comment system.
Joseph V Thank you for your comment. I never see those hate rants on Hickok45. I realize these two are pretty much anti-anything that is anti-gun. I get that and in your enthusiastic support for something you should not personally attack a politician with a different opinion. I realize it is difficult because we all want to take that cheap shot. This was not even the usual blind hate remarks against President Obama and Sec. Clinton that unfortunately are all over the gun channels. These two let kid trolls ruin an otherwise good gun channel. That entire first section of comments had NOTHING to do with the subject of the video. Which I thought was a good informative video, by the way. They have a lot of subs is this the message they want to preach? Anyway, I have rambled enough, thank you for your comment.
You got that right! They want an inch today then another inch tomorrow and another inch the next day and before you know it you will be their slave if you are lucky. That has happened too many times in history. As they say "History repeats itself".
You're wrong about arms confiscation in the USSR. During and right after the red revolution arms were confiscated from the rural peasants but this had to be partially rescinded because of how important rifles were in feeding and protecting the rural population so the ban on hunting rifles was rolled back. All military style arms and hand guns were still prohibited for civilian use and confiscated.
Great video, I really appreciate the detail you put into these videos. I like how you say this just scratches the surface. I could listen to stuff like this for hours (and usually do). Keep up the great work!! Thanks
love how you just go straight from rim fire 22s to the 5.56 nato. I would of meantioned the 222 remington, 22 hornet, 220 swift amd even the 222 magnum.
@@BryceKimball7.3 great point; I guess it's more by way of suggestion, as there is a lot of call for them to do a new video on the subject (preferably centerfire only) that is more comprehensive with fewer tangents.
Wow half way into the vid but it seems as though .22hornet won’t be mentioned. It doesn’t seem as popular as it once was. Hell I would like to see a vid on just it. I’m 100% against poaching but I had an uncle that deer hunted with a 22 hornet. Head shot only but he didn’t starve. my dad still has the has the reloading dies
It's unfortunate that the fellow on the left interrupts his partner so much, talks so much, and is generally so boisterous. He comes off as feeling superior and it's quite off-putting. Otherwise, a neat video, I love shooting .22. The guy on the right actually seems to be more knowledgeable than the guy on the left, who sounds a bit more like a textbook than a person. Ah, just my .02. Cheers!
The guy on the left is the actual owner of the channel. The guy on the right is probably just happy that his buddy asked him to become internet famous.
I have my father's .218 Bee varmit rifle from the early 1950's. The .222 came out around the same time, so the .218 never enjoyed the same degree of fame. It is still a good round for shooting small game and varmits, particularly when using semi-jacketed hollow point ammo.
The .222 Remington, also known as the triple deuce, triple two, and treble two, is a centerfire rifle cartridge. Introduced in 1950, it was the first commercial rimless .22 (5.56 mm) cartridge made in the United States. This came out before the .223 and 5.56. It was the precursor to these cartridges. Eugene Stoner experimented with it on early M16a1. also the .222 swift and 22-250 came out in the 30's.
Yeah, he has a tendency to repeat himself, a tendency to repeat himself, a tendency to repeat himself....needs to use a script/teleprompter to keep it more concise. I don't have the time or patience to listen to someone who takes 20 minutes to say what can be said in 2 minutes. Otherwise, it's really good info!
I thought that & worse.. maybe something illicit maybe! I found myself losing interest (fast) in something I'm interested in. (eyes rolled in my head and spun about 50X or more. ...zzzzzz)
I built a 7 twist 22-250 that'll sling 95 grain sierras. The sierras and the Berger 90 grain are just awesome looking. And excellent ballistics with minimal recoil. I love the ultra fast 22s
it is a great cartridge. but if i remember right, shooting a 55gr federal v shock, my round would drop 1inch at 250m. hence i would zero my rifle 1inch high at 100m. still a very fast flat round.👍
Doug Fowler yes, obviously in the US it's hard to find because there's also not real interest. The .223 is slightly faster and widely available. But in Europe, it's still used by hunters like .243, 6.5x55 or .308, .30-06 and then easily available in stores.
My first rifle was an old model 75 single shot cooey 22lr. Dad gave it to me when I was about 5 years old. When you could go outside and plink all day, and no one would call the swat team on you. Man how times have changed.
Totally agree, I was shocked to hear no mention of the 22 Hornet. Mine has put venison on the table for 4 generations of my family. Great little gun highly underrated. Will pop a hole in 1/4 inch steel plate.
23:18 one step forward, two steps back... Eric failed to utter the keyword --- barrel life. Smaller bore and large charge will get you this 22-250 effect ---- you bust the bore rifling after 500 shots.
I remember an uncle had a .22 hornet in about 1955. I don't know if you can buy a rifle chambered in Hornet, but the ammo is everywhere. It was a popular round for years. Another high velocity center fire round was the .222.
Great video, One of the .22's you didn't touch on is the .22 Hornet. It was used by the military in their survival rifles like the M4 Survival Rifle and the M6 Survival Rifle , as well as the Armalite AR-5 Survival Rifle. Enjoyed the video , thanks for sharing. JT
Always thought a .22 WMR but in a rimless Center fire makes sense. For very high capacity auto loading pistols, like Kel tec;s. Is it possible or not, if possible has it been done already?
Eric did not put effort into preparation. There are no anchor points in this talk - just anecdotes in no particular order. The 22s has a few distinctive lines (22short, 22lr line, 223 line, 220Russian etc) that would have helped to organize this much better.
Learning about calibers is like learning English. There is often no rhyme or reason to it and there are rules that are routinely broken. There are professionals who have been working with guns for decades who are still learning.
Not brand new but still pretty new to this I been watching researching and reading on so many elements the engineering and mechanics is either overlooked or underrated over and over from caliber to type of weapon and if it's ammo specific etc the list goes on but one thing I keep seeing is the best conversations from actual Americans sharing knowledge and experiences like neighbors having a beer on their porch together. Thank you all for being so helpful. May God Bless You and America!
I'm honestly really surprised you didn't talk about the .22 hornet. That round was released in 1930 and was based off the black powder .22 wcf from the late 1800s. It is a very similar round in comparison to the .223 and the 5.56 and I believe birthed those rounds. It is a very popular hunting round. It has a 45 grain bullet and I couldn't tell you how big the case is but it packs a punch and sends that bullet flying really fast. That's why it's a popular round for hunting, and I have heard story's about it being used for hunting deer. I think that's a bit too far but it probably is capable in the hands of an experienced hunter. Keep up the good work. I love the channel👍👍👍👍👍👍

just two questions: original airforce survival armilite rifle was Horniday 22. why did the civilian ar7 use 22 long rifle? not a magnum? why was Hornaday round not used? i have shot all brands of 22 ammo. federal was the worse at jamming. CCI brand was my go to round: less jams, never a misfire. Remington usually had at least 1 misfire per box.
OK, I may have the answer to why the .22 subsonic stabilizes in your pistols but not your rifle. Subsonic rounds hate long barrels. After the powder charge burns up quickly the barrel actually slows down the bullet creating drag because the gasses are no longer expanding and pushing the bullet.

Interesting topic indeed, in the older center fire cartridges I think I’m most interested in the .221 rem fire ball. I’ve only seen one in my life time and haven’t had an opportunity to purchase one since.
Wait, now I´m confused... I always thought ".223" and "5.56mm" denominated the exact same cartridges? At around 11:30, they say the rifling and chamber pressure are differing, however. Did I understand it correctly, ".223" is a cheaper made "5.56" with thinner cartridge walls and less powder load?
XDproductions212 Just for confirmation, can you fire .223 out of rifles rated for 5.56mm AND vice versa? Would it be safe to fire military 5.56 rounds out of a run-of-the-mill .223 M4?

What about it? .22 Hornet is a .22-caliber U.S. "commercial" cartridge. Bullet diameter is .224" just like all the rest. There's reloading data everywhere for the Hornets.
"I thought the Hornet had a slightly smaller projectile diameter." Older rifles chambered for the 22 Hornet had .223" bores but all modern examples are .224" bores. If you have an "older" rifle, slugging the bore is the only way to be certain.

Michaelnoblehvac - while the 5mm rimfire may have been intended to compete with the 22mag, it's nominally a 20 caliber and doesn't really fit this particular discussion of "22 caliber cartridges" and their differences. (It is a pretty neat cartridge, though).

While I have to admit that my 'go to' white tail rifle in my area was the Winchester '94 30-30 for the common 'less than 50 yards' brush gun, but, for the "clearer" areas I preferred the Hornet. The Winchester was open irons while the hornet had vintage "optics" that I could hold a $.50 group at 80 yards. The ONLY shot I would accept at those yardages was 'head on' between the eyes. Never had a 'runner'. One shot, one deer.
Nowadays, with the diabetes, massive weight gain, failing eyesight and heart troubles, I am limited to reminiscing of hunts long ago.

............You may be the boss, I don't know, but if you are the boss then you really need to work on your management skills because that's just weak. Not that we don't love to hear what you have to say, just let somebody else talk as well, they might have good information that you need to stop interrupting them from communicating. Anyway I still love you're videos just if you care maybe try and work on that. otherwise keep putting out the great video. Thanks
@@Felix-rc4wv seriously what is that supposed to mean????
Should have talked about the .222 and the 22-250.
I have 2 boxes of 222 that I founded. I have not seen a 222 in years.
Barry Cogswell I thought you died
plenty of 222's in aus
shot many deer with .222 mag 55 grn. my browning olympic 22-250 will drive nails
Quiet right, 222 a brilliant round killed off be 223 but the 22-250 is alive and well. I have a Mauser in 22-250 and is best calibre and action I have ever had and I have had a few.
.22 Hornet and .222 Remington are shaking their heads. Triple deuce will always be my favorite though. Super flat shooting for prairie dogs
Back in the day the 222 was the one to beat on the target range. They built the 219 zipper,220swith, 218 bee, 221 fireball to try and beat them but the 222 out last them over time because of the barrel would last longer
EXACTLY! 💯 % They're going to talk about .22 but COMPLETELY IGNORE THE TRUE .222 AND THE .22 HORNET! SMH!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤡🤡🤡 not to mention the .221 Fireball; or the .218 Bee!! Lmao!! Guess they're just ADDING TO THE .22 CONFUSION!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This year I turn 61 and I've been involved with firearms since I was 15 and including a 5 year stint in the military and I learned some good stuff today. TY guys, very good vid.
.22 PPC is a different cartridge than the 5.45x39.
There are times when more information is not informative.
Kevin White often the case on this channel
Totally agree Kevin
This would be super overwhelming if I were new to guns/ammunition and solely relying on their videos for information. I cannot imagine coming across these with little-zero knowledge starting out.
@@bp4548 I have a little bit of knowledge and this is fairly confusing. I sort of understand, but them throwing out numbers and terms super fast is confusing because I have to think about it for a second.
Ok. If it says 556 then it can shoot anything. But if you get a 22LR then it will only shoot 22LRs and not 223s. Its kind of confusing but its not that hard.
Doesn't mention .22 hornet REEEEEEEEEE
i feel you brah
Xplodicon 'tis ok /k/omrade we shall get them next time
Dude seriously lol. "What's the first thing that comes to mind when you think center fire .22?" 22hornet22hornet22hornet22hornet
Exactly that what first came to mind when he ask "What the first thing you think of when you think of .22 centerfire?"
I don't really put .223 in the '.22 category' even though it is.
Eric, you’re a sharp guy, but why have Chad on there if you won’t let him talk? Give him more talk time so the vids won’t seem so one sided. Keep ‘em coming!
Carlos Gonzalez chad just doesnt speak as much.
That's because Eric doesn't know how to STFU and let the "Co Host" speak!
actually guy on the right seems like he doesnt have the oratorial skills
Chad is like the Robin is to Batman of these videos.
I came here litteraly just to see if someone mentioned this. Poor guy kept tryna talk but just couldn't! Lol good vid either way.
the first thing for me that came to mind when you went .22 center fire was the .22250 that was a very popular round hear in Canada.
How did ya'll let them take your gun rights?!
Why am i watching this! i don't own a firearm and i live in Europe! stop making this look so interesting!
im from germany and i like firearms!
Where do you live? In the most european countries you can own a rifle without big problems.
Just get a Hunting License in Germany and you can own as many Firearms as you want.
There are Hunters in Germany with huge Arsenals.
The only thing is that you cant fire them in your Backyard or your Farm ^^
So, basically the differences between Germany and the USA relating to Firearm Ownership are pretty similar.
Danke, Tschuss! ;)
PS: Be careful about the new EU gun law proposition that should be voted in July...
The 6mm Lee Navy wasn't the only early US small-bore cartridge, the .276 Pederson came very close to being adopted as the primary rifle cartridge for the US prior to WW2!
A lot of people don't know the Garand was originally a 10 shot
I always wondered why the eight mag capacity. Thanks you learn something new everyday.
The .276 Pederson also had a lubricant on the case that may have caused issues with sustained firing.
What’s the first thing you think of when you think centerfire .22? (Simultaneously)
Them: .223
Me: .22 hornet
Me 222.
Agree -- .22 Hornet
.22 Remington Jet
FN 5.7
.220 Swift!
You two men are a world of knowledge on firearms and anything related.
I too did the .22 carnival shoots to win the little dolls
I go back and revisit your videos regularly
I am so glad we have you two educating me and others who are still learning.
I remember those, as a matter of fact I still have some in the 30-06, 22 cal and 55 gr. My rifle grouped them 2" at 100 yrds.
William Mawk yup.....have .30-30 and 30-06 for many years..... They have now started manufacturing them again......stopped making them for a few years.....accuracy was a question mark with the early ones
No way did it go 4300 that’s 204 speed
Nathan Valdez 204 doesn't even remotely approach 4300
Nathan Valdez 300winmag accelerator flies out at 5,000....too fast.....no good
Most people "hear 22 and think 22 LR".
Because .22LR is the most common .22 caliber round
+Shlomo Shekelkikenberg ...???
These guys are great. I feel like they could talk forever and it always be interesting
Never give the gun grabbers an inch.
You got that right! They want an inch today then another inch tomorrow and another inch the next day and before you know it you will be their slave if you are lucky. That has happened too many times in history. As they say "History repeats itself".
I don't mind to give them a fraction of an inch... like 22/100 of an inch ;)
+Phil Smith aahh.. nice one.
Well they just took the whole west coast. Commiefornia and now Oregon will soon fall.

Cheers!
The guy on the right is alot less comfortable on camera he has said this and that is why he doesnt talk as much
The guy on the left is the actual owner of the channel. The guy on the right is probably just happy that his buddy asked him to become internet famous.
220 swift at one time was the fastest production shell
29:40 - great point, and a missed opportunity to explain the primary reason to stay away from rimfire. Rimfire shoots dirty.
22-250??? How do you not mention the king centerfire 22 shell the gun shoots 40-55 grain and can do some serious damage

I love the remington .222! I inherited mine from my father, it's a great rifle and even with the 50 year old scope that's on it is extremely accurate.

I’m so glad Eric has calm down a little and leg chad talk nowadays
You guys I think Eric just had too much coffee this morning lol he’s just goin and goin and goin
Yeah, he has a tendency to repeat himself, a tendency to repeat himself, a tendency to repeat himself....needs to use a script/teleprompter to keep it more concise. I don't have the time or patience to listen to someone who takes 20 minutes to say what can be said in 2 minutes. Otherwise, it's really good info!

it is a great cartridge. but if i remember right, shooting a 55gr federal v shock, my round would drop 1inch at 250m. hence i would zero my rifle 1inch high at 100m. still a very fast flat round.👍

The .222 has always been my favorite round.
even bigger step with the .2222

What about the .222 caliber?! That is where the .223 came from!
Killed quite a few deer in my youth deer hunting days!! great cartridge too!
+Doug Fowler Very popular in Europe where .223/5.56x45 was or is banned because it is a "war caliber". So civilians used alternative such .222 Rem
+Phil Smith maybe that's why I have a really hard time finding 222rem ammo... that's interesting!
224 is nato 5.56 , 62-67 grain. So another one to add to the confusion
Doug Fowler yes, obviously in the US it's hard to find because there's also not real interest. The .223 is slightly faster and widely available. But in Europe, it's still used by hunters like .243, 6.5x55 or .308, .30-06 and then easily available in stores.

What about 22 Rem Jet and .222 Remington?
Totally agree, I was shocked to hear no mention of the 22 Hornet. Mine has put venison on the table for 4 generations of my family. Great little gun highly underrated. Will pop a hole in 1/4 inch steel plate.
23:18 one step forward, two steps back... Eric failed to utter the keyword --- barrel life. Smaller bore and large charge will get you this 22-250 effect ---- you bust the bore rifling after 500 shots.
That's an interesting thing.

.22 Remington Jet
I remember an uncle had a .22 hornet in about 1955. I don't know if you can buy a rifle chambered in Hornet, but the ammo is everywhere. It was a popular round for years. Another high velocity center fire round was the .222.
very nice video but I was wondering was the 22 hornet rim fire or center fire?
centerfire
+Shadow thanks I thought was but I was drawing a blank, during the video.
Centerfire. Arguably the smallest centerfire/reloadable cartridge.
Center fire
Porty, not even remotely close to the smallest centerfire reloadable cartridge. I have some friends with a 14/221 Fireball and some 10 calibers.
Great video,
One of the .22's you didn't touch on is the .22 Hornet. It was used by the military in their survival rifles like the M4 Survival Rifle and the M6 Survival Rifle , as well as the Armalite AR-5 Survival Rifle.
Enjoyed the video , thanks for sharing.

Always thought a .22 WMR but in a rimless Center fire makes sense. For very high capacity auto loading pistols, like Kel tec;s. Is it possible or not, if possible has it been done already?
22Velo dog was a rimed center fire almost identical to 22 WRF WRFM lead bullet black powder load
I must be dumb. I'm more confused than ever.😶
me too. If i have to listen to 2 people talk at the same time I cant understand ether of them.
You ain't the only one my friend!

Jimmy Carter Sub-sonic rounds don’t “hate” anything. They are inanimate objects and cannot perform human functions.
Sarah Watson he is using a grammatical tool called onamonapia. So I hope your being sarcastic and not actually dumb enough to not understand what he means.
DhayRock DeMore For one it’s not a “grammatical tool” it’s a literary technique. Second off it’s spelt onomatopoeia. And lastly the term you were searching for is ‘personification’. Just needed to drop this here.
Onomatopoeia is to spell out a sound. Eg. bark, woof, grrr, snap, etc
@@sarahwatson7692 Sarah, one might ask if you have any inanimate objects that you "love" that can perform human functions and are kept in, say, your nightstand ?

I'm 75 years old and frankly, I wouldn't want to be 21 and live in the crappy world that man has created. I look at the blithering idiot we call president today and cannot fathom what Teddy or JFK would say. I... I'm not going to list my large number of complaints, but you get the idea. People like Musk have figured it out: Get the hell off this planet and away from the evolutionary failure the 'average' man has become. The four horsemen may have been biblical fairy tales but they now are near to corporeality. So, youngsters, good luck with that.
Before someone jumps in and says that I was part of the history that made it this way. No I wasn't. I spent 50 years of my life working to stop what was happening and at best only slowed things a little. I did try.
.22 Hornet..222 and .223 were variants (wildcats) based on. 22 Hornet, the long range squirrel rifle round. In Vietnam, GIs were found dead with their .223 M16s pulled down to fix malfunctions. 5.56mm is the Mil Spec round used in the new chamber design for the M16 A1.
How I wish I'm an American citizen...love the freedom to carry and conceal...!!

Your missing out
This was a really good video, very informative, I learned something new today. Thanks guys.
Interesting topic indeed, in the older center fire cartridges I think I’m most interested in the .221 rem fire ball. I’ve only seen one in my life time and haven’t had an opportunity to purchase one since.
you guys forgot my favorite small 22 cartridge, a 22 Hornet!!!
You ain't the only one my friend.
It's got a somewhat flimsy case. Funny, reminds me of the profile of a .30-30 Win.
I think I prefer 222 Rem. Superbly accurate, long neck.
Chad's back! ya!
Chad sucks
+stupidasso77 dude from what I've seen of Chad in the TH-cam vids and on social media he's pretty awesome.
he reminds me of a guy that fired me one time. he has the same mannerisms and voice and kinda looks the same
Just found this video. Love my little. 221 fireball. A deer killing machine. Shot placement.
I've got a marlin 738 that says 22wmr only does that mean 22 magnum
Wayne Hall .22 Winchester magnum
Wayne Hall
He
Wayne Hall yes
Winchester Magnum Rimfire is what WMR stands for.
XDproductions212 Got it, thank you very much for taking the time!
Aguila 22 snip subs dont stabilize out of long barrel cuz it spins so long in rifling it slows a bit
I'm in Great Britain and my local police force chief inspector asked me why I wanted two .17 calibres ...I had a .17hmr at the time..and I was applying for a .17 Hornet worlds apart ...
TWO GUNS? is that allowed over there
@@Sube-Tube No, you can have more or less what you want, but it a case of proving to the police that you have a good reason for having them. i.e deer stalking, clay shooting..
Loved my Rem. 700 chambered in 17 REM.
What about a 22 hornet or the 22 k hornet?
What about it? .22 Hornet is a .22-caliber U.S. "commercial" cartridge. Bullet diameter is .224" just like all the rest. There's reloading data everywhere for the Hornets.
I have a 77 Ruger in Hornet, it is the most accurate rifle I own.
I thought the Hornet had a slightly smaller projectile diameter. Handloaders need to be aware of that.
"I thought the Hornet had a slightly smaller projectile diameter."
Older rifles chambered for the 22 Hornet had .223" bores but all modern examples are .224" bores. If you have an "older" rifle, slugging the bore is the only way to be certain.
I remember going to the Kentucky state fair with my dad when I was 5 years old (1963) and there were booths where you would actually shoot .22 shorts at moving steel ducks and goats. As I recall, you had to be 12 or older, so I just had to watch my dad.
Y'all forget the rare Remington rimfire 5mm magnum that was made to compete with the 22 market
Michaelnoblehvac - while the 5mm rimfire may have been intended to compete with the 22mag, it's nominally a 20 caliber and doesn't really fit this particular discussion of "22 caliber cartridges" and their differences. (It is a pretty neat cartridge, though).
Look up "nominally." It does not mean what you think.
Nice catch word smith!
i remember about 10 years ago a friend left me borrow his .22 Hornet with hand load . at about 250 yards i shot a ground hog with this rifle . wow did it do some damage to the chest area . i was really impress with it. it seemed just as powerful as a .223 even though over all a lot smaller round. and the accuracy was right on .
Last time I came this early the UK was still in the UE
ha!!
EU.......
+TheAlexagius lol good correction
they are still in the EU
+TheAlexagius depends ,it could be Ue or eu...
22 hornet how you forget it
great vid, your excited your passionate and your way way overttalking the other guy, we all do it when we have a passion. work on your timing with each other and the flow of the information will be even better keep it up and thank you for this video
"I say we like I have a frog in my pocket."
ROFL!
Watched the video till half way through when you said you had no .22-250's
BTW this informative video is so convoluted I'll have to watch it several times to get it. Confusing? Yes, to say the least. Jeez! You guys should do a video on the 204 cartridge. Fast as hell.
I think my 22-250 mauser is rated at 4300fps. that's stupid fast.
They made a 22 extra long rifle . I think it fell off around the late 1920's
FAT LOLO yea then they just put the 22 mag as it
I like these guys trying to help and give knowledge on things some people might not know and they are very useful I have learned quite a bit from these guys and i am thankful for yall keep up the good work
there was also a round called a 218 BEE
219 zipper also
They are not 22 calibers wildcat rounds to complete against the 222 on the range. Barrels didn't last long enough
@@robertfudge9745 No, it wasn't. a 218 Bee was not to COMPETE against a 222. Actually tht 218 bee got some acceptance, but not a lot, 218 bee was meant for varmit hunting.
