      This. People eating things like puffers and octopus is repulsive to me, for similar reasons if you told me you ate dog or oranguatan I'd be disgusted with you as a person. Puffer and cuttlefish I could somewhat give benefit of the doubt prior to the internet, but it's become pretty common knowledge how smart these animals are.

    Thanks for not taking him out of the water all the way. You obviously have read up. Never let them suck in air they can have a hard time expelling it as opposed to water. Hopefully he doesn’t munch on your leather and star polyps. Mussels and cockles are also really good especially when still on the shell, helps to keep the beak filed down. He’s technically a striped burrfish. They can be found off the east coast as far north as Maryland and North Carolina depending on water temperature.

    you should stack live rock on top of each other (assuming you get more when you get more colorful fish) because the change in height is nice and if you put 2 or 3 small rocks at the bottom and a big one on top, you have a large spot to put coral and alot of spaces for fish to swim down below. Love the long tanks since they always have great potential to be amazing reefers

    • @saltybrackishfresh
      @saltybrackishfresh  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I will definitely redo the scape of the rock soon. It’s hard Bc I already glued corals onto the middle rock so I’ll have to be careful when redecorating

      Pretty sure puffers can get bored. I'd love to have a big one but they're easily stressed, mostly require very specific water conditions (I have ultra hard water to boot), needs lots of space, and I barely have the time for taking care of a houseplant and fish atm.

    Just a word of advice use the container that you put him in to transport to catch him as well that way you don’t have to put him in the net Which isn’t good with a spiky puffer fish

    • @pandemicneetbux2110
      @pandemicneetbux2110 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually you can severely injure them by taking them out of the water and into the air if they get stressed out. Forget how, but my understanding is something about the way they puff up if they do it with air can cause permanent injury while you're moving them around.

    Awesome pufferfish, just beware he's going to outgrow that tank, and they grow incredibly fast. You might need to get a bigger tank in like six months. you also cant feed him only krill, it causes the fish to get lockjaw and eventually he won't be able to eat and he will die.

He was extremely responsive and as they say had a personality of a puffer. about the size of this one if not a little smaller.. priced at 29.99. I took a video of him, and as soon as I started he swam over and went down to a pebble and pretended to pick it up and put it down and I slightly moved my phone to the left and he went to the stick on the tank after looking at me for a minute before I slightly moved my phone..

    Seriously have questions. Sorry so long..How old is the box puffer and what size tank did u put him in?. How long will it stay in the tank before its waste load overtakes the ability of the tank filtration or its size ratio to tank length and width is to narrow a margin. Research is so misleading.. it's recommended 180 on most spots w others like wiki saying 70 min..so much cuc info.. Ur tank is beautiful btw. Cpl things. Not criticism just to help u avoid potential heartbreak like mine and cost loss. Puffers est coral like a put chews truck tires to floss. Lol. Shaving down teeth is vital tp survival and will die if they aren't provided adequate crunch. Won't care if it's 150 bucks of coral.. .puffers shouldn't ever be netted and should not touch air. Puffing up and surface feeding are to b avoided at all cost.. besides the stress impact puffing or gasping air w food these activities can result in something called like gut bloat or air gut. Presents w odd behavior like resting long periods and unblalanced swimming equilibrium. I just lost my sharpnose to it. Surface feeding is what caused it in mine. I didn't no. Let excess food float. Believe he caught an air bubble. Often enough they can't get the air out. Always best to capture and transport this fish in a box. No net required. I'm trying to gather all the info and experience of others possible before bringing in a larger variety puffer then a canthagaster. misinformation and idiots who think they no more then they do cant just share what they have learned from doing. I wanna no growth rate and activity level in detail if possible. Sorry so long but clearly u no what I no about how cool puffers are.

    • @fundifferent1
      @fundifferent1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@saltybrackishfresh It's not. These are "battles". Even if they were supposed to be "feedings" they are inhumane feedings. Zoo keepers don't throw live animals in the cage while screaming and cheering and tell people "ITs A LivE FEedingZ!" Not to mention it is not save for the predator. As the owner of a pet you are putting it in danger by doing live feedings where the prey tries to fight back. These are clickbait battles and branded as such you just call it a "live feeding" when called out probably for legal reasons.
