IMO the beta tests of FSD will be for US drivers (that's where AP is better trained and tested)
I think FSD for european countries AP will have to be 2x better than in the US to be as practical. Because there are far more complex interactions between cars/pedestrians and there are narrower roads. That's why I think FSD will take at least 1 year more than in the US. Regulation + AP team location, add another 1-2 years.

Hogging the left or right lines of the lane is normally in areas where the left lane/right lines of the lane are not there or not clear. A human would do the same thing to locate the lane space. When we drive in the rain or low visibility you actually hog the lines especially the lines to your right to know where your going and locating the lane space as well. City driving is the only problem. Like I said alot of other OEM have figured out highway driving. People have driven >100miles no intervention plus switching highways. Look up the videos. Remember tesla are trained on a neural net mostly from people drive. Off course its still A.I. let's wait for the rewrite..personally I think they need better radar or ultrasonics.

The guy even predicted it would miss it as it was a route he took repeatedly. The lane hogging is nothing to do with unclear markings, it's just a flaw. It's not a human, it's not "thinking". It's going to come very unstuck in city driving as there's too many situations that require real intelligence and understanding of what you're doing.

Full autonomous driving is a pipe dream.....I’m afraid, at least here in the UK. There are too many variables that a computer cannot assess anywhere near as quickly as a human (eg a child running from the left, out of sight of a camera - a human may spot earlier signs of this and be ready, but not the computer). I view many Tesla videos and there are far too many instances of something happening that requires driver intervention, let alone allowing for something unusual that even humans can’t always second guess. My concern is that many will consider Navigate on Autopilot as an excuse not to take responsibility for their drive, and accidents will happen....we’re already seeing this in the States. Tesla and/or Tesla drivers might need to allow for future lawsuits, because if use of Autopilot starts causing too many accidents, I can see the victim just looking to sue, saying that the driver was not in full control. I like the idea of a Tesla myself.....just not the idea that it can drive itself in today’s world.

@@SylasTheGreat Well, not really. I’m not dissing computers as such, just the ability of these and a few cameras to correctly assess everyday driving situations and drive a car by itself. For example, a human could see a car trying to emerge from the right and ‘judge’ that it will pull out, just by the car body language and other circumstances. A human could then be ready with actions to avoid a collision. A camera and computer cannot (yet) make that early assessment and would only do something once that car has actually moved....which may be too late. I will eat my words if a computer can ever do this (correctly......phantom braking is just as bad), and, for example, if it can pull up to a T junction, be able to see both ways and assess it’s OK to pull out. If/when I see that happen, I’ll change my tune. But from I see just now, the cameras and computers can’t handle that yet, and despite years of development, they’re still not even close.....the ‘easy’ stuff, yes.......but not the tricky stuff that happens to us all every day and always seems to require driver intervention just now.

This is the first BETA of the new system. It's not going to handle all of these situations, and you would be completely unrealistic to think it would. It will be miles ahead of the current version in some areas, but with completely new ai logic, no doubt behind in other areas, and the beta testers will be helping the new version gain the experience to handle more of the oddball situations that come about. The narrow roads with constant blocking and having to cross the center line where you are will not be automated easily. Just like in big cities in America, like New York, where cars and delivery vehicles may suddenly block a lane for long periods of time while they unload, it's not going to know how to automatically handle those situations, because it may require crossing a centerline. That kind of decision making isn't rule-based, it's observation and behavior-based, and that will the the kind of decision making to come last to any full self driving solution. Full self driving will still require human intervention in exceptional situations, such as loading truck blocking the lane or super narrow road with cars parked illegally and having to cross the center line. That sort of self driving will eventually get here, but I would think it will still be a few years off. Full self driving on wider roads, less odd exception areas will be first, and then slowly build towards handling situations that essentially break rules, laws, and safety guidelines, but are what you must do to get through.

Nah. We don't have double mini roundabouts in the US (never mind magic roundabouts). It won't support them out of the gate. Maybe once regional updates are applied to work with the different traffic controls and rules.

    Welcome back!
He's not saying it's ready for 100% zero intervention drives. Here's a quote: "I think at Tesla, I feel like we are very close to level five autonomy. I think I remain confident that we will have the basic functionality for level five autonomy complete this year [note "basic functionality", not the complete feature!]. So yes, I think there are no fundamental challenges remaining for level five autonomy. There are many small problems. And there's a challenge of solving all those small problems and then putting the whole system together and just keep addressing the long tail of problems. So you'll find that you're able to handle the vast majority of situations. But then there will be something very odd. And then you have to have a system figure out a train to deal with these very odd situations. ... But I'm absolutely confident that this can be accomplished with the hardware that is in Tesla and simply by making software improvements, we can achieve level five autonomy."
Basically his idea is to introduce FSD software this year (in a week, according to the tweet), which will be able to handle all simple scenarios (like current software + basic roundabouts, basic intersection turnings and so on) and some (for example 3%) of complicated ones. Then gradually improve this percentage. His idea is that this path from 3% to 100% is now opened and not blocked by software limitations, just require a lot of AI learning.
So don't be too excited about this version. While it will definitely be a lot of fun, it will fail a lot. =)

@@Reprint001 while 1 day baby cannot walk, count or speak, it is a matter of time for them to be able to do that. On the other hand, while dog can also walk, it has really hard time when counting or speaking. The same here. To achieve level 5 you need proper software (like neural network structure) and a lot of learning. Musk is saying (and he still may be wrong) that they have managed to create software (which is a hard part) needed for level 5, and all they now need is tons of learning (and it takes lots of time but not that hard).

my guess is the new FSD beta will handle roundabouts better, but not super well. I highly doubt it will go around parked cars like you're describing. That's crossing over lane lines and sometimes into oncoming traffic. Elon is testing it on American roads that don't have these narrow give/yield corner cases nearly as often. So his "near zero interventions" will probably not = your zero interventions on narrow town roads like this.

Because I noticed wioth your beta it was giving off a bunch of false positives such as people when there weren't any..even more than the ones you pointed out.
