Thank you so much! I was expecting more out of career mode and was heavily let down when I realized they make you fly the approaches but give absolutely no direction on actually setting it up yourself. This is gold as I’m starting IFR flying now.
I did all the MSFT training stuff over the course of 5 hours and learned little except some of the control settings won't work. They teach right up to the point I needed to know. 21 minutes of your video and I am much better off. Gonna go try it now. I have a feeling I'll be back to watch it a few times. Many thanks!
@@Bambihunter1971 keep it playing on your phone while you follow ;) it takes practice but most importantly press p to pause the sim while you fiddle with the avionics
Are you talking about career mode and how the game shows you how to fly the approaches but gives no information on how to actually setup IFR flight or setup the ILS approach? I was expecting more and it teaches you nothing on how to set it up yourself.
When you master this set the weather preset as foggy and then hand fly it. Then once youve mastered that watch my next tutorial about RNAV GPS Approaches. You'll learn more
Excellent video, and even better that you fly between the two airports closest to where I live! Being new to MS FS, I’m loving all the instructional videos that are available and this is one of the best. I can’t wait to try an Instrument Landing next time I’m on the sim. @@allanjarvis3400 Thank you 🙏 Theyr both not far from me either ;) once you nailed this have a try at RNAV approach then practice missed approaches. VOR with DME arc is a little more advanced
@@Sebastopolmark ah I just finished editing the video but it’s at a different airport. I let you know the flight plan so it will be easy to follow and I also show you how to get it programmed in the plane incase the sim doesn’t do it.
Nice. Thanks for the video. I’m just starting to learn and I’ve experienced these bugs too, I thought it was just me doing something wrong! Once I’ve got the g1000 down I’ll be looking at getting some ATC software with voice recognition. Say intentions looks cool with the AI responses but I think it has a subscription.

Very good video. Clear explanations without going full jargon! The G1000 is quite easy to learn for new people... could you pull something together for the pilatus PC12 please. General controls/displays and ILS/GPS landings🤞
Another great tutorial video. I trashy enjoy your reworded approach to these videos which mashes them all the more watchable. Too many of this kind of thing are just too sterile. The Nav mode autistics switching from Nav1 is annoying so I hope that's fixed but at least now you've highlife it we know to look out for it. Not seen it mentioned anywhere else and it's probably the reason my first attempts at this mode of flying failed some weeks back. I'll rewatch this several times as there's a lot to absorb. I Think I missed when to switch to LOC mode so that's the first thing I'll check back on.
Yep, basically managed to figure this out somehow putting together all puzzle pieces, and thank you for reassuring that I am doing things more or less right. Sure thing, MSFS2024 still is buggy and needs some fiddling, but it’s okay. Having fun with my career mode. 😊

I tried going through the tablet and it never has ils or airport clippings for ils info etc. The waypoints and gps markers just dont match anything that is on the gps screen in the cabin. Its really strange. Earlier it told me to expedite my climb to 11k ft saying i was 4k ft below. I was cruising on autopilot at 11k ft. Game is so bugged. (this is all in career mde, flying cargo missions)
@@slpstang08 not all runways support ils approach this is totally dependent on your airports compatibility. Change the setting from lido go faa charts in the bottom right corner to see if an approach chart is available.
Great and informative tutorial! Is it possible to re enable the engine gauges on the left MFD/PFD? When i turn the right MFD on the engine parameters disappear from the left.

Hopefully someone can help me with a problem I'm having. Each time I have tried the ILS landing system (in a couple different planes) after I select APR I seem to lose the ability to slow down. At least on my display the speed seems stuck. Even lowering flaps didn't after the speed. Even if I shutoff AP before the landing, I am not able to slow the plane down. I can kill the mixture but that causes a immediate stall. I am using the Velocity one Yoke and throttles. I tried with the Grand Caravan and with (forgot the name), the 4 engine turbo prop plane. EDIT: I think I know what the problem was and it's my fault. I forgot to use anti icing in northern Michigan with live weather on.
Great vid. My question is when I hit the comma key, it does not adjust the Baro pressure to what it should be. I havent touched any of my keybinds, so I am not sure what I am doing wrong.
@@Bryan-ty8wq if you have live weather on the comma key should adjust it as soon as you press it. Check your keyboard keybinds and click scan at the top and press comma key to see what the comma key is bound to. Or type in set altimeter in the search bind bar and see what key is bound to it. Let me know what it was
@@OzzySafa I appreciate your response. I have been doing career mode, so I don't think Live weather is turned on. But to answer your question, comma button is keybinded for "add parking". If I search for altimeter, there is two "set altimeter" options that both are not key binded to anything. There is one for "set altimeter setting (Millibars *16" and another "Sync alt setting to sea level". I assume it is the 2nd one I want to key bind?
Thanks a lot , great tutorial! Why don't you put Nav1 and Nav2 to the same frequency to avoid the Nav-switching-bug? Also looking forawrd to the GPS version! 🙂
Beat me to it, I was going to suggest the same thing for a short flight like this one where Nav2 isn't being used. Hopefully it's one of the things they eventually correct but it's probably way down their priority list if they even know it exists!
I found that during the career mission a lot of the small airports dont have approach procedures so I never find the ILS frequencies... is that a bug or am I doing something wrong?
You can press it when I did it doesn't really matter but nothing will happen until you intercept the localiser and get close to the glide slope path. If you think you'll forget to press approach button there's no harm in doing it early. But good practice is to press it is when you notice the green diamond starts moving.
How do I figure out what altitude I have to be to catch the Ils localizer. Where do I find that on the chart. I either missed it or you didn’t say but I can’t figure it out haha.
@@APHE03301 yes I went through it where the glides slope descent profile is on the chart at the top of it you will see a number that shows you the altitude you need to be at to catch it. This number is also present on the path before the localiser initial approach fix. It also shows what altitude you need to be in blue on the flight plan also on the mfd screen. Hope this helps ;)
In Career Mode, is it intended that we still have to program the flight plan manually even after selecting "send to avionics"? My in-plane flight plan never matches the EFD flight plan.
@@OzzySafa Ironically that is what I had to do when I found out my DHC-2 Beaver had no where near enough fuel to complete the mission even with the proper leaning, which I don't think even works in the DHC-2. Tried to restart the mission and call in a fuel truck for more fuel, but apparently that is not possible. Had to set the keybind to magically add fuel to the plane to be able to complete the mission. I now avoid the DHC-2 missions.
Is there anywhere that explains what the fuel mixture should be at any given point? I get the incorrect fuel mixture message pop up at times but am never sure what I should set it to so just play around with it blindly lol😅
@@hammerpgh What I was told is you tune it to get maximum RPM. At 10,000ft cruise that seems to be somewhere in the 38 - 42% range for the Cessna 172, I imagine other aircraft have different values. For the DHC-2 specifically it's hard to tell with the analog dials unless you use the UI, you could also use the exhaust temperature but that doesn't seem to change with leaning on the DHC-2.

I just started the game and had had to go through an update first. Curious to see what has been fixed. I am on Microsoft it self, not on Steam so i don't know if they already got the update.

@@APitcher16 in the bottom right of the efb after clicking charts there should be slider setting. Move this from LIDO to FAA. If you’re trying to view a chart in America.

Talking about fiddling… just got a freaking Unexpected error 60 minutes in flight… couldn’t try out the proper ILS approach 🤦🏼♂️

Do I have to have my mouse cursor over the knob and then hit comma?

Yes this is a bug at the moment it works fine in 2020 version when you select ifr low/high and select the ils approach in the main menu.

They don’t currently support it in career mode as of yet.
