    Steven Wright is probably one of my all-time favorite comedians because he is special he is a very rare form of Comedy and very inspirational and highly intelligent he brings a new wave of Comedy like he always has. With his twists and punchlines and his offset comedy I say he's world-renowned one of the best comics of all time.

      @@jasonpowell7346 This has become a really contrived meme. Every single comic that does not use adult humour has people commenting about it as if it matters whether a comedian is dirty or not. Funny is a personal thing. So I really wish people would stop commenting this same overused line.
      Instead, just comment on whether you like the comedian. The cleanliness of the material has absolutely no bearing on its comedic value.

      @yoe91 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      morpheusatloppers I know what subliminal messages are, subliminal ads I get, but I don't get the joke. Could you please simply explain the joke to me ?

    • @morpheusatloppers
      @morpheusatloppers  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Are you SURE you're not winding me up? Okay, he saw an ad-man who specialised in subliminal advertising (messages inserted into films and programmes that only flash on for a second, thus delivering said message without the viewer being aware of it - which has long been illegal, as it happens) but like the ads the man made, he only appeared to Steven for a second. There could have been a number of reasons for this; perhaps Steven just caught a glimpse of him, in a crowd. Or maybe he magically materialised and then de-materialised in front of Steven for a second. We don't know. And we also don't know how Steven knew his occupation. But for the purposes of the joke, we do not NEED unnecessary details. As with most of Steven's jokes, it is CONCEPTUAL, rather than practical. If you STILL don't get it, I suggest you AVOID Steven Wright!

    • @morpheusatloppers
      @morpheusatloppers  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      LOL! Sorry - re-reading my answers, I realize that in bald print, they DO sound a bit contemptuous. But I can assure you, I was smiling as I typed them - no offence intended (although I WAS trying to guard myself against being teased). Abstract humour is one of those forms of comedy you either get or don't. It's building mind pictures out of absurdity. Like; "Fang (her husband) is so dumb - he bought a pet zebra and called it Spot." Phyllis Diller. In this and the subliminal ad-man gag, the set-up is stripped down to the MINIMUM of description, with the joke word LAST. And with both, you either laugh or go - "Huh?"

    When microwaves were first introduced (this piece is from the Eighties) their selling point was that they were QUICK (like, they could cook a 45-minute Xmas pud in twenty seconds). And so with "instant" coffee ALSO sold as being quick - if you used one to heat the other: quick x quick = so quick, it TURNS BACK TIME!

    If you have everything on Earth per 5:38 then you have every container, storage unit, etc. If you have everything literally, you have an infinite amount of space for it. By Douglas Adams reckoning, if "everything" is a finite amount of matter, despite the astronomically high quantity, if you divide it by infinite space, the quotient is infinitesimally low, meaning practically zero.
    Therefore you have nothing and it's only in your imagination that you have anything at all.

    @morpheusatloppers Why isn't the beginning of this posted? The part where he says he likes to stick his head out the window and smile for a satellite picture...

    @morpheusatloppers I HOPE that isn't true. I've loved his stuff whenever I've heard it - he's tremendously underrated. But if what you say is true, he hasn't done anything new in a quarter-century.

    I hate to correct such a great podium, but you got to build another one to put Mitch Hedberg, Louis CK and Bill Burr.

    The line between standups and actors has always been blurred. The reason is that most standups are essentially acting at the mic.
    With most, if they got up there as themselves, they could never RULE a room - the audience would tear them to shreds.
    Some, like Emo Philips (and here, Stephen) are doing a character - while guys like Hicks are/were playing themselves - but writ LARGE.
    Kinda like movie character actors and movie STARS...
